I'd be honored if some GooGoo's fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performance of their first big hit NAME on my YT channel in tribute to one of the most unique & iconic bands of the last 30 years. Live acoustic with no digital editing. Thanks and peace out.
Got a special place in my heart too. Grew up in the 90's and 2000's was familiar with all their popular singles. Discovered this one way later in 2007, but ever since its certainly been one of my favorite songs of all time. Definitely top 5
John Rzeznik’s masterpiece of self-acceptance after seemingly endless loss all caused by chasing dreams. That was my sin too… Trying and trying and trying and losing myself in the process. The Goo Goo’s got me through a post-apocalypse phase - 100% alone - alone - and if I ever meet John I’m going to hug him and thank him for saving my dignity through taking a hard look in a busted mirror Enjoy - still today the tears stream when I hear this - yet they have washed away an immense amount of pain - self induced - and now healed. Thx John. 🙏
Wish Johnny would have aged gracefully. He was such a Gorgeous guy before all the plastic Surgery. Still Love em & their Music. He's a Great guy humble & funny 💙💙💙 Love my Goo Goos 💙💙💙
this song is amazing. I'm 22 and homeless and I have Mental disorders but i want you to know that this has stopped me from doing permanent things to myself many times. Thank you for making beautiful music Goo Goo Dolls!
NEVER needed it as much as you did then !~? that's what I'm guessing is your meaning hope it has and whenever I've needed comfort I turn to music as a musician myself ENJOY and Stay positive LUV!!
These lyrics remind me so much of my own struggles with addiction and just life and all the conversations I had about it with God. He sympathized and loved me regardless of any failings then or now. He is patient and works change on us from the inside. I slowly realized it just like the guy in the song. He showed me what I really wanted and now He guides me patiently to Him and real life
Johnny riding around Vegas in a cab with strangers is kind of how I feel my life is... friends and lovers come and go, I let them into my life but I'm more of an observer than an engager. It's colorful and fun and also bit sad, knowing that there are so few who I can truly connect with.
I feel like GooGoo Dolls wrote the soundtrack of not only my childhood but adulthood as well...when I think of the best of the 90s rock they are right at the top. Multiple other bands as well but these guys are quintessential 90s
This song has a permanent mark in my heart for life. Ever since I had brain surgery, I’ve been in my feelings a whole lot more, but something about this song makes me continue to have faith and to not give up.
The Goo Goo Dolls were huge in the 90s and 2000s. I personally grew up with them. Just because they're not as well known as TODAY's music doesn't mean that they are in any way underrated. Popularity doesn't make talent (clearly). Besides, I like that they have a more modest fan base, at least in the younger generation. It makes the fans feel closer to them!
i love when john and elvis look at eachother. lol john said in an interview this was his most personal song he ever wrote and that he was afraid to put it on the album. love this man!
This is my song to God. I constantly screw up and chase after the world and He is patient and merciful. I wanna do right so bad but I fail so often. Thank you for never leaving me Jesus. I love you.
Saw them at a Benefit concert about 10 years ago...the night they debuted Better Days...and half way through this song, John forgot the lyrics...good thing there were enough of us there who could help....it was priceless and wonderfully real.
***** good music is still around, just not on the radio, sucks but that's why I bought a bluetooth stereo for my truck, haven't used the radio in years haha,
Hey there Stephan, I think I know what you mean. But to me, I think people associate songs from points or memories in their life. Some really good times, some really bad. Maybe a certain song when someone was younger dating someone really special to them. When you were a child and remember a song you loved on the radio, and you hear it in your adult life and it takes you back to that moment when you heard it when you were young. One cool moment I'll share is when I was very young, my next door neighbor was an older teen with a cool 70's muscle car who listened to classic hard rock. One day I heard out the window him blasting from his car this incredible cacophony of sound then a steady bass line. I instantly feel in love with whatever it was! I found out it was Van Halen and the song, "Runnin with the Devil". It made me an instant Van Halen fan, and when I hear that song, it reminds me of that awesome moment in life. Have a great day Stephan :)
This song makes me remember what I felt when I made a terrible decision and the impact it made on all the people I love. Also it reminds me to never ever do it again or do something worse.
I listen to this song on repeat and each time a new line hits me. Johnny is so beautiful, no other artist can make me feel insecure with a look at the camera.
It must have been 10 years since I first saw this video. Nowadays, Goo Goo Dolls isn't really what I pick and choose to hear on a daily basis. Not even monthly. But every so often, when it's most needed, it crawls back to the back of my head. And once again, I come back to this really damn old videos from the 2000s era songs. It's soothing, for sure. But what I love the most is seeing how for more than a decade, people have gathered here to comment charming stories. I'm glad UA-cam keeps these videos, with people's thoughts frozen in time, persisted in the comment section. I find comfort seeing how even after all this time, we all find some sympathy here.
As an orphan trying to make it in this life this band has been one that hits harder than ever. He’s not wrong you know, 32 years old and still trying to figure it out.
@stasis0rb, 48, estranged from my wife and children, diagnosed with cancer last year, trying so hard not to loose everything I still have left, they keep screwing with my health insurance, so now They screwed me again on my medication, we are all still trying to figure it out. I will keep you in my prayers my internet friend. 🙏 🙏🙏
Gutterflower was one of my favorite albums from the goo goo dolls. played it constantly. such great times. this song in particular was very meaningful to me as a kid growing up in the 90's. music like this will always be special to me. in times of sadness, I knew I could play my favorite songs and feel a little bit better. that's the great thing about music. it's always here, and even though it's been years since I listened to this song, coming back to it now and hearing it again makes it stand out even more to me. and I remember why I liked the song so much
Man, I love this song. I use to spend my money from working as a teenager on all their albums even though they were already 10 years old by the time I got to them. Still no amazing in 2024

“ Who the hell did I think I was “ Best line ever.
“it’s easy to forget, when you choke on the regrets” is the best, to me. just so raw and real and relatable
Indeed. Twenty years later, the line and the thing I didn't do still burn in my mind.

The more I listen to the Goo Goo Dolls the more I wonder why they aren't 100x more famous than they are, they deserve to be.

Same!
Their music is very deep and some people can't handle what that can surface within them
They are so underrated.
"It's hard to lead the life you choose... and all your luck's run out on you, and you can't see when all your dreams are coming true."
The most honest song John has ever written. Said that himself.
he was, and still is, and always will be, one of the most attractive people to me on the entire planet.
