      wow, at 8:30ish, it looked like you were painting her face, as in face painting your model, lol. idk why, considering the pallor, yet there was already ''life'' in the piece.. i enjoy your stuff enough to want to follow a tutorial...oooh, discipline , in control, intention, a different direction to take my art as therapy. thank you!!

      Incredible and truly inspiring ! I used to have a passion for hyper realistic painting (I used to teach at a college as well) and I haven't touched a brush in nearly a decade. but after watching your videos I went out last night and bought all new paint, canvases, and brushes. Having invested in this video, it is one that I will watch over and over again. Andrew teaches in a no nonsense practical way. There are two painting sessions included for each of the two models, and the entire painting process is covered thoroughly from composition, sketching, block-in, modelling, to finishing touches. He discusses colour palette choices, colour mixing in detail, and achieving colour harmony with a limited palette. Starting with the end in mind, breaking down the complex into sections or phases which really helps me not become overwhelmed, instead absorbing loads of tips, brush techniques, importance of form, controlling textures, ambient light, deepening of shadows, saving the best for last in tonal highlighting. Includes discussion on mediums used. In summary this is brilliant teaching and very good value for money and I am putting these tips into practice with more confidence than before. He also mentions review, making corrections, painting loose and tight. My recommendation is simply this. If you want to learn portrait painting in oils, buy this video! Thanks so much Andrew for sharing your talent. :))

It’s an incredibly insightful video at an incredible price! It contains 7.5 hours of jammed packed information. Andrew walks and talks you through every step of his thinking and decision-making process from his conception of the idea, posing and lighting of the subject, working out the composition and value structure in a study, selection of paint colors and materials, all the way through executing the details of final paintings...and much more!

    It’d be really rad if you came up with something original. I’ve been following your stuff, and it appears most of your work has been reproductions of photographs.
    Is art the reproduction of photographs? Are your paintings an imitation of real life, or the imitation of photographs that imitate real life? Why paint when the image is already made? Does art stop at technical exercise?
    🤷‍♂️

    • @AndrewTischlerArt
      @AndrewTischlerArt  5 років тому +1

      David, the point is to reduce THIS painting down to a technical exercise to help others with their portraiture. It's just a demonstration of how to paint. The "nuts and bolts" if you will. I did this because there are many folks out there who are hobbyists who do not have the time, means and money to hire and work with models. Sometimes a photograph is all you are given. This is not my preferred method, but it was a conscious choice for this exercise. As for my other paintings, I like to make studies from the field and bring this back to the studio and use these with photographs to create something unique. Perhaps it's time to start voicing your artistic vision to an audience on your channel. The floor is yours. You clearly have a lot to say, and I think if you feel this is not an acceptable way of creating art, go and create something that satisfies your criteria, and please share your process. Whilst I love to help others, my paintings are only supposed to please one person - myself. It's the process I share with others, this is separate. I am trying to scratch the itch within and whilst I don't do that with every painting, I get close at times. I appreciate you taking the time. Thanks for the comment.

    Amazing. Really gives me an idea of how the sketching/and the colour blocking works - the hardest part for me. The brush seems it will help.

    Thank you Andrew. I did a lot of pencil sketching and wanted to learn to paint. I just started in acrylic and am very encouraged after watching your video. You are amazing! Your likeness of the photo is right on. I hope to purchase your video soon.

    You're making this all look very easy with your methodical approach. Having never been properly taught properly how to use oils I feel like I'm ready to start kicking ass but I'm sure I'm going to experience a ton of frustration. A lot of expertise that I simply don't have goes into just the color matching/mixing on the pallet alone. And don't even get me started on maintaining a cleanly, organized approached with all the materials that go into the whole process - you have a really great demeanor for painting in that regard.
