    Legendary game. Great goal from Walhurst, poor penalty decision. To say nothing about the red card against Berg. And I’m a United fan 😁

    Was at this game, as I was at almost every away game during this era. Clearly not a penalty, we could even see that without the aid of a replay from where we were sat! Blackburn were just about the better side, even with 10 men and you could see they would be our strongest challengers that season! We never actually thought at that stage that they'd win it though! Such a shame what followed in the years after, hope to see them back in the top flight at some point, one of my favourite away grounds ever!

    Good old days of EPL. Very intense and very attacking. Unlike the current crop of teams playing defensive ploy with some cynical soft fouls to disrupt the rhythm. It was a full blooded tackles and football at 100 miles per hour.

    I was in the Walkersteel stand parallel to that Berg challenge and we were clapping that he made the tackle. Next thing we are all looking at eachother as to why he was being sent off and a penalty awarded against us.
    Gerald Ashby soon got out of that stadium after blowing the final whistle.

    The control and the pass from Hughes (two touches) make me wanna cry. 99% of the time Lukaku touched the ball twice you had to put a helmet on.

    • @swewunna

      In Lukaku's defence, his not so daft touch against Spurs in the FA Cup semi against Spurs created a chance out of nothing for Herrera. His overly lose touch throw his Belgian colleagues Spurs back line completely fooled and the loose ball got to Lingard. The rest, however is history.

    Wow that penalty decision against Berg was possibly the worst I’ve seen. To send the player off also, the referee had effectively handed the game to United. I hope Berg was not banned for this ridiculous decision.

      But from where the ref was... He didn't have the benefit of multi angled replays.

      @@Michael-cz6ob Not that Tottenham goal again. Firstly it wasn't in the 90th minute, secondly please explain how the Ref, Mark Clattenburg, who was standing next to Pedro Mendes on the halfway line supposed to see whether it went over line or not? Also if you watch the linesman, when the ball enters the goal, he his sprinting hard with his head down and is level with the front edge of the penalty area, so is 18 yards from the goal line to been in a position to say whether it had gone over it or not. Please note at that time the Laws stated that the Officials can only give decisions if they see the offence or goal and plainly in this case they did not. You only know it was a goal as you have seen 14m replays from 4 different angles, which weren't available at the time.

    Has anyone ever noticed that Man Utd seemed to have that kit for fucking ages. Fair play to them as well!!!! People always talk about loyalty. What about clubs staying LOYAL to a kit to emphasise & rubber stamp some kind of real and traditional loyalty & identity between the club, the players and the fans!!!!! Changing a kit season after season is pure exploitation and to be quite frank, a sickening practice and in actual fact, bad habit!!!! Obviously we all why they do it, but it just shows how much the club really does care about YOU - AFC fan.

    • @USCFlash
      @USCFlash 3 роки тому +1

      they did not have that kit for ages. we had it for two years. every home kit was two years then change.
      In 92-93 and 93-94 it was the first years of the umbro deal, we had a white colllar with laceup stringing on the front.....and teh shadow printing said "MUFC" and had the umbro diamond all over it.
      This was the first year for this strip with the black collar and the shadow printing of old trafford on the shirt.... 95-96 was the second.
      then it changed to the ones with white and gray button collars for two years and the dark reddish light reddish alternating sleeve diamond shadows.
      then in 98-99 and 99-00 the black umbro stripes from collar to wrist on the sleeves for two years.
      then 00-01 and 01-02 were the solid red shirts with no collar, and that was the end of the umbro deal.

    Blackburn were robbed in both matches against Man Utd that season, with this ridiculous penalty and red card when they ahead and on top at Ewood Park, and a perfectly legitimate equaliser disallowed at Old Trafford. There was at least an unfair 6 point swing in Man Utd's favour from those 2 games, had it been 2 draws instead.

    • @Gizo02

      True at least justice was done in the end. Blackburn should have won the title a lot more easily, and finished about 10 points ahead of Man Utd, but I suppose the way that they won it was more dramatic and exciting.
      It's also worth pointing out that Man Utd's squad in 1994-1995 cost just as much money to assemble than Blackburn's (and they spent more money in the summer of 1994 than Blackburn did). Blackburn spent the same amount of money on their 6 main defenders used and rotated that season (Colin Hendry, Graeme Le Saux, Henning Berg, Jeff Kenna, Tony Gale and Ian Pearce) as Liverpool spent on Phil Babb alone.
      So it's safe that they didn't buy the title.

    • @mikeeyles9635
      @mikeeyles9635 6 років тому +5

      Utd had 2 of the most blatant hand balls go against them against Chelsea towards the end of the season and then West Ham on the last day so it evened itself out to say the least!

    • @Gizo02
      @Gizo02 6 років тому +3

      And Utd were very lucky to beat Southampton with a controversial late penalty in their penultimate game of the season (the commentator agreed that it was the wrong decision), and Blackburn were denied a victory at home to Leeds conceding a controversial late penalty after playing nearly the entire match with 10 men, and Wilcox was the victim of a farcical red card away to Forest.
      Cantona was suspended during the title run in, but Blackburn suffered from long term injuries to Batty, Gallagher and Warhurst that season.
      I don't think it evened itself out all. Utd were incredibly lucky that the title race even went down to the last day of the season in the first place, when Blackburn should have had it wrapped up before then, though admittedly Blackburn choking was also a contributing factor.

    • @GregRandles69
      @GregRandles69 5 років тому

      Gizo02 I agree with almost all of your points here mate apart from the comparison of the Cantona ban to injuries suffered by Batty, Gallacher and Warhurst. The only way you could compare that in that season would have been if Shearer had a similar length of absence as he was the only one who was in Eric's class in terms of a match winner and someone who would've been that much of a miss to that Blackburn squad
      Blackburn certainly did not buy the title, they were deserved champions that year, unfortunately others strengthened where they didn't in the seasons that followed and we all saw their demise, such a shame as this was probably my favourite era of going to United, home and away, us, Blackburn, Newcastle, Liverpool and even Forest for a small period always had cracking games! Proper football played in front of proper fans with electric atmospheres, not like what we see now unfortunately! Great memories
