Absolutely, positively, definitely would like to see the two of you make more food and nutrition videos. I'll be buying a tin of beans next time I go shopping. This is exactly my kind of cooking - not just a microwave ready meal, but also nothing too complicated or pretentious. And healthy, too. ;-)
Hey Freddy - I’m no nutritionist so please do some reading too. You’ll want different food depending on whether you’ve done a long slow ride or short intense session, and how much you ate on the ride. I’ve just add videos about some simple balanced meals which are easy to prep and finish after a ride and which work for us. Hope you find them tasty!
I was fat so I lost weight doing keto. This works great if I just worked out at the gym but when I added running I really craved carbs. I am going to try doing a recipe like this one and see if I have more energy after I run.
1 cup of Barley ( washed, cooked and drained), 1 garlic clove diced, a small onion diced, 15 ml of oil (any food oil) 1 carrot diced finely, 1 parsnip and half of a swede cut tiny and cooked all mashed together, combine and coat with flour, rest in fridge for an hour or so's bike ride. On return form into rissoles or balls and squash them, fry gentle on each side until golden brown. (balls the size of golf balls would be best). serve with chopped mint & yogurt. You can make these in advance and keep in the fridge or freezer if in bags. I use a drizzle of fresh lemon juice and lemon zest for that tang.
Nice one, I'm not much of a chef "at all" and my Mrs has instructed me to cook on Thursdays which I can't grumble about 😁. This is going to be the meal this week as even I can follow those instructions 🤣🤣👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Yummy, definitely a nice steak of whatever kind with that would be awesome. I also thought some cheese over the top might make it an another cyclists food adventure 😋.
Sounds very tasty! But, sadly, not anything I could eat. Many of the vegetables in that dish would wreak havoc with my digestive system. My recovery meal is often a tin of mackerel followed a while later by eggs, cheese and/or steak. My training is not as intense as yours so I have no requirement to replenish carbs immediately post ride & my liver takes care of that over a day or two anyway. If I do need carbs then a portion of rice does the trick. But mainly my body runs on fat & I keep the (animal) protein up to preserve muscle tissue. I probably eat around a quarter of the calories (generally in the form of carbs) you do on a ride but that is enough to ride to my max.
Looks great! I would probably supplement with a chicken breast or pork loin. Btw my New Years resolution is to do a Century a month for 2021 so 12 Centuries 1200 additional miles along with the almost daily mountain bike rides I do. I probably could be better about my recovery meals.
That's a great goal. If you haven't, perhaps take a look at some of Sean's advice in the Rapha 500 videos about spending the last hour on the bike recovering with food and water - it really does help for the next day.
Update - made this tonight and the teenagers wolfed it down. Can see how this would work really well to make before a ride, tonight we made it fully after the muddiest ride ever! Great recipe

There are quite a few in the Tips playlist 😁
Hi Simon, looks lovely, just bought the ingredients to cook for after tomorrow's ride.
Thanks. Rich
Hope it went well Rich
Yes please for more recipes. So good to get new ideas as easy to get stuck in a rut, especially in lockdown.
Will do Kirsty.
I just found your website and very much need to be educated as to what to eat after the ride. Thank you!

Amazing meal! It left me feeling full, satisfied, and I felt energized and lite ready to ride the following morning!
Post ride nutrition is so often overlooked. Nice one.
Absolutely, thanks.
Fantastic! And I definitely would love more cycling-related recipes!
There are a few in the videos
A meal with those thought out timings a great idea, happy to see occasional recipes.
Great Andy, we have a few lined up.
i like the idea of prepping a meal before a ride then cooking it on return whilst bike & i shower.
great use of time.
Best thing is it works too! Glad you like it Christopher.

I might try that tonight. Will let you know how I get on. What do you call them? "Mark's Balls" seems a little... odd
Hey Mark - do you cook the barley and other ingredients first? Sorry if that's an obvious question.
Go on then, I will give it a try. Thanks Simon
I hope you like the results (I think you will)
Really delicious! Have served it with garlic chili spinach and grilled green asparagus….always very tasty!
Fantastic James

Looks great, I'll give it a try!

Enjoyed this.. would like to see more. Appreciated that it was plant based
Hi Nicholas - more to come, mostly veggi although not all entirely plant based

I made it on Saturday and it was really tasty!
Excellent! Thanks for letting me know.

Love the food ideas thanks
You are so welcome Jay!
Looks great, I like the idea of something you can prepare early in the day like this. I presume it could go in the fridge during the ride?
Yes, absolutely. Or if you're in Scotland right now, outside would be fine! 😁

@@alwaysanotheradventure thanks I will. One of the essential things I always do is drink lots of water, usually 2 to 3 liters at the end of my ride.

Excellent! Thanks for the update David
I am interested in recipes. I'll bet that would be good with garbanzo beans too.
We call them Chickpeas, but yes that would work - I'll try that next time.
😋More nice recipes please!
Looks great 👍
Tastes even better George
Looks delicious!
It was!
Great meal. I eat meat .but after a ride a plant based meal is easier to digest i would say. faster recovery 🤔
Nice meal did you say your plant based I am not but around 80 % I would say nice channel
Hi Peter - that's similar to our house too, so hopefully you'll like the handful of meals we have planned.
more simple quick recipes would be fine.
OK, we have a few in mind - thank you.
beer and pizza not good then?? 🤔
In the middle of an Audax they can be exactly what you need. Well, maybe not the beer...
lets have some more recipes guys, not meat though
