As an artist and creator that saw all levels of the playing field, Mark Farner's musical diversity is a matter of public record. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked "I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home" as one of the top ten classic songs of all time. Way to go Mark!!!
Great back-up Band. Hate to say it but when you have the REAL vocals & Lead guitar player and close your eyes it sounds like the REAL deal. Awesome song and performance!
i love this song, thanks for sharing this with us. i remember when i was 15 listening to this endlessly. that was 40 years ago. this song takes me back. glad to see mark farner is still rockin'.
We all only know MArk as Grand Funk and no one else! Your amazing Mark and thank you for all the great music KEEP PLAYING WE ALL LOVE YOU!!!! YOU ARE GRAND FUNK!!
This is the best band ever that makes me think of my brother that has passed away but he introduced me to rock and roll! We were estranged but I was able to say goodbye and still love him dearly!!! He is waiting for me as well as my parents!
Dude, I'm in a state-of-gladness and enthusiasm to see Mark Farner still making people happy and living his dream virtually still to this day. "The past does not equal the future" and I give the above perfomance a very favorable review because it still ROCKS and makes an impact. Plus, the modern-sound-PA from this concert kicks ass on my computer audio system! Perception equals Reality and UA-cam enables tapping into joy. Peace!
First 8 track I bought. , listened to this song all day long. Mark will always be Grand funk Railroad. FU. Mel and Don. Him and David Gilmore most underrated musicians ever.
MARK !!! THIS IS THE CAPT SPEAKING...I SAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY, AND THANK-YOU BROTHER FOR ALL THE GOOD MEMORIES AND AWESOME POWERFUL HOLY GHOST MUSIC THAT YOU PLAY...ARE YOU READY? JOEL CH 2:28-32...JESUS OUR MESSIAH IS SOON TO RETURN FOR THE FIRST RESURRECTION..HALLELUJAH!!! CAP PEDRO MAC
Grew up on Grand Funk Railroad, how Brewer and the other stooge can claim Grand Funk Railroad without the lead singer and guitar is beyond me. I saw Three Dog Night once without Chuck and it was sad. No Mark, no Grand Funk Railroad....simple.
Sure he was apart of the band, but one must remember, a band is more than one or id soloist, two duet, three trio. Ok Mark you were apart of the band, the name he should tour and perform as Mark Farner (formerly of G F R). Like John Fogerty was sued for sounding like C C R and more. I managed local bands they fight like kids bragging about their life and teens have major attitudes.
And this guy is from my hometown! We may have lost GM but we still have more than all the other unknown towns in this country because these guys came from our ranks, I am proud of them.
The airwaves in 70' were full of this G.F.R.Tune along w/ Eric Burdon's "Spill the Wine, Free - Its allright Now, Tull- Teacher, Beatles -Let It Be, Traffic's -Barleycorn and a Host of R&B /Soul hits ,That just blasted that summer charts out of the water .Music ,powerful like this is Just too Gifted to dismiss ever..Thanks. Much for Uploading many good Memories...
Just saw him sat. nite (june 11th). Just AWESOME!! He came out and signed autographs afterward. Took pics w fans. Signed my shirt, and the red album, and the 1st live album. I actually remember the show, unlike the time in 71. Highly recommend for any funk fans. He played aimless lady. Never seen that.
this is a blast from the past!! I grew up in a small town and never had a chance to see gfr in person. this is as good as it gets . I enjoyed it sooooo much ! Thank u
Good to hear that Mark farmer gave his life to Jesus, I remember Grand Funk when I lived in Boston, Mass, in the 70´s, but is better now for him, that he is a christian man.glory to God
I grew up listen to Grand Funk always been a great band should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the band's not the same without Mark Farner upfront
MARK!! YOU MINISTERED TO MY CRUSHED SOUL,MANY MOONS AGO!! It' GOOD to see a great song being magnificently performed by it's original singer, player and backed up by a capable band who gets the flavor of the song and an engaged and appreciative audience. Shame about the rest of the original GFR though. Great show people.
I commented on another channel about how excellent this re-do is; I'll say it again here. It really is hard to match the original; they manage to do it here. I'm glad the tradition still lives on.
Grat man.. sad grand Funk is not in Hall of Fame! Grand Funk is a sad sad case now.. shame on Brewer and Mel..! This proves one point HE WAS GRAND FUNK !! Keep on rockin' Mar5k WE LOVE YOU!!!
ALWAYS LOVED GFR! LOVE THIS SONG...THANX 4 POSTING...And, YES, Mark STILL LOOKS GOOOOOOOD...Yummy! ;-)) WISH SOMEONE WOULD PUT TOGETHER A ROCK CONCERT LOADED WITH BANDS FROM THIS ERA. WOULD BE GREAT, HUH? HOTLANTA WOULD BE A GOOD VENUE AND THIS SUMMER...
You're invited to see We're an American band cover by The Psychedelic Jukebox on this site. Our Tribute to GFR. This band is tight, and Mark's skills are well-honed. That drummer is jammin'like a big dog, and that vocal jam on the end is just great. Mark and the boys certainly deserve a place in the hall.
I have this album on record with my Marantz Tube Amp *given to me by my dad before he died* we blasted this so loud that my neighbor came over with a cooler full hahahah
gah man i had 5:20 on stuck in my head for 5+ years finally i found the song ive been searching for so long... damn my dad for listening to this type of song on a long road trip.
Hmmm, I wonder what YOUR voice will sound like when you're 60 years old? People grow old, things change.. the HEART is what remains the same... and he's got that in every word he's singing...
GFRxR have 33 gold & platinum ALBUMS earned & many gold & platinum singles. They also still hold many ticket sales records. NOT being recognized by The R&R HOF is a bitch-slap to every fan who bought one of those albums or concert tickets. Sign the petition in this video's description.
@leonakita Mark Farner was, is and ALWAYS WILL BE GRAND FUNK RAILROAD!! The rest will only be wannabe's. The heart and soul of GFR came from Mark and without him, they will only be a cover band at best!
He still has a lot left in his gas tank. A pretty good job all in all. fun to hear this great anthem of rock and roll. Especially nice to know it is now sung for Christ. we are getting closer to "home". Where do you want to build your home with? for me and my family, we will choose Christ. God BLess!
i remember i bought their live album way back 1981, and i still love this song and the album.... and i dont care if the devil or satan himself wrote this song.... well at least the devil knows his music well in hell....but none of us will ever go there, coz were all far too groovy.....wonder who said that word?
GFRxR created their own genre of music & The People reacted enormously by becoming the first band to sell 10 consecutive platinum albums & breaking ticket sales records wherever they played. fattdaddy3755, WALNUTS52, & myself are trying to correct the fact that GFRxR are ignored by The R&R HOF. Please join us by signing the petition in this video's description. Thanks everyone!
Mark, you still sound and look great. Awesome band too. Thanks for the music.
There can be no GFR without Mark Farner. He was the man who composed 90% of their hits!!
As an artist and creator that saw all levels of the playing field, Mark Farner's musical diversity is a matter of public record. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked "I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home" as one of the top ten classic songs of all time. Way to go Mark!!!

Mark farner is the greatest. Just check him OUT!!
The best music ever made
while I was really stoned I counted Mark repeating I'm getting closer to my home 26 times on the original LP version before it fades out.
Dude, I'm in a state-of-gladness and enthusiasm to see Mark Farner still making people happy and living his dream virtually still to this day. THAT DRUMMER WAS RAISING HELL !!!!!!
This was actually in 1999... I was there!!!
He still has a lot left in his gas tank. A pretty good job all in all. fun to hear this great anthem of rock and roll. Especially nice to know it is now sung for Christ. we are getting closer to "home". Where do you want to build your home with? for me and my family, we will choose Christ.
God BLess!
Best groove in rock & roll!
I like the NRG drummer too by the way. He would be good enough for GFR
great.. he isthe one that made grand funk band... the other member were so nasty to him...
From watching interviews, it looks like Mark Farner was ripped off by those idiots! Too bad. Hope he is doing fine.
Mark, Don and Mel Forever!
They needed to turn the bass up a lot more. The sound people dropped the ball on that one.
+Pianoman 70s style yep, the bass intro to the chorus made the lead in so much better
That's the way the band wanted it.
my 10year old daughter's favourite all-time rocksong(mine too)
i remember i bought their live album way back 1981, and i still love this song and the album.... and i dont care if the devil or satan himself wrote this song.... well at least the devil knows his music well in hell....but none of us will ever go there, coz were all far too groovy.....wonder who said that word?
Farner is actually a Christian these days.
that back up band is the real deal
