Sorin is like a Balkan mechanic:
_"The problem was with AdBlue. I took it out. It only cause problems."_ 😂😂
BTW, when I saw the video title I knew you wouldn't like the device. It's terrible. We have them at work. If you change the wifi network it won't work. You have to email the company and ask them to grant you the new account or something like that. I repeat, it's terrible! Electronic waste by design. Sometimes there's problems with their servers or something so the music will cut out all the time. At times it would play for a few minutes and then it would shut off. Then you have to take your phone, open the app (that needs an account) and find the radio station, album, song, whatever. Then it dies again after a few minutes. You can't use it for a few days. Or something happens and the chosen radio station doesn't play. It's silent. Then you habe to find who in the company has the app on their phone so that person sets it up again. Junk!
@@westsenkovec apparently they had some awful scheme where you could allow them to remotely brick your current device for a discount on a new one. I guess they figured it was like a trade-in program without the hassle of trading in. horrific.
also, older models had one app and eventually they started using a new app and then discontinued the old one and the servers and made any prior products into paperweights. they only brought back that support after massive public outcry
Varistor is for overvoltage protection. Since customer mentioned he has another one blown I would recommend getting electrician to check the socket he was putting it in and investigate it further. It may have two phases there instead of phase and neutral due to incorrect wiring or perhaps it had some one time neutral fault event. Since varistor is now removed I would love to see second repair attempt on this if customer repeat same overvoltage event :)
We only have single phase in the UK to residential properties, never 2 phases, 3 phase is only for industrial and has a complete different connector because it is only used for high power devices.
Most likely cause of it blowing was a voltage surge from the grid or lightning strike.
Concerned that he didnt fit a varistor as it did exactly what it should do, go short on an over voltage and blow the fuse. Now there is no over voltage protection.
The customer does explain what happened, on here in a comment. An installer inadvertently wired something up wrong and put a huge voltage through everything. It's "operator error" and now all corrected.
@@englishrupe01so basically he doesn't need an over voltage protection anymore 👍😏
Your right Sorin, you shouldn't need an app for your device to connect to bluetooth, it's a direct connection so long as your device is equipt with bluetooth, no third party apps needed. It's all down to collecting you're personal info to sell on. Marketing strategies today.
Nice video Sorin, but there is one thing you got wrong. That speaker is £180, it's not cheap.
Yep Sonos are expensive
But it’s still crap
@@DB12347😂😂😂😂😂
Doesn't worth the money... it's garbage 🗑️..
Even though it was frustrating in the end I loved the repair.
These companies have no morals. Don't think I'll ever buy a Sonos product after this video. Thanks for letting us know who to stay away from 👍
Holy crap ... Sorin got pissed off !😉
Enjoyed the repair logic and agree with never buying any of their related products.
Always a pleasure, Master Sorin! Good weekend !
I say we band together and buy Sorin a set for the sole purpose of annoying him 😂 Who’s with me? 😂
Thanks Sorin and sorry for making you go through all that! I should have said it's okay to just get it powered on lol. My friend and I install Sonos systems (along with other AV and wireless stuff) and yes it's a pain now. With the old app you didn't have to create an account but now we have to make sure the customer has already set up a Sonos account before we get there so as not to waste time on-site. Sonos systems actually work very well and typically we'll set up variouse Sonos amps and speakers including TV soundbars to make a whole-house audio system. I believe they work primarily on WiFi and not Bluetooth and create their own WiFi network between devices. You can then use Apple music, Spotify etc to play stuff from you computer, phone, tablet etc and you can group speakers so you can have different stuff playing in different areas of the house.
Just replace those with proper parts.
@@rafarafa3094 Already ordered from Farnell ;)
Congratulations for p*$$ing Sorin off!! ;) LOL - you need an account for everything these bloody days :(
So, you cant play just regular audio files like mp3 or flac, stored on your computer, tablet, phone!!! Only if you pay for Spotify or Apple music!!! Thats crazy.
@ledhunters yes you can play files from you pc using the sonos app file / folder browser.. Sorin i think needed the sonos bridge to make everything work properly. Yes, having accounts for everything can be annoying these days. Sonos i think is one of the few that dont abuse it overly much, I hardly ever get spamming emails from them at all, just the occasional sales notice, and only coz i opted in for them.
"If I will test and it's blowing up, I will "loose" the video... but I suppose if you are watching this video, we know we didn't blow up. Yeah. OK makes sense" XD
That was funny. Thanks Sorin, always learning and great to watch your videos!
I spend 4 hours connecting a smart voice operated opener and all it's sensors to electric gates today, then failed to connect it because a Vodafone router won't allow you to turn off the 5ghz band. Enough to send you mad Sorin.
I’ve been watching your videos forever and I can’t believe I want subscribed till now. But I absolutely love your content and greatly appreciate all ur advice and insight.
I enjoy your videos and learning from them. Thank you for letting me know what not to buy if I was in the market to buy a speaker like that.
So that Varistor saves the device if there is power surge?
Yes. The customer had a crazy situation where a solar power installer sent 480V through their house wiring, taking out pretty much all the electrical stuff. The Sonos equipment had been installed from new about 3 months before!
@@justinspiredfallout Yep i had a electrician f. something and PSU from pc got wrecked in a same way... I think you need that varistor back in place... Sorin will probably bash me on this one... im a noob...
😂 a nice, small and sexy 2A calibrated fuse jajajajaja. Amazing Sorin !!!! 😂 I enjoyed a lot and in the end, I saw me reflected in his reaction jajajaja
Still laughing for the proper calibrated fuse (which I believe is still a super sound solution, the gauge of that wire is clearly supporting 2A and no more 😎)
Regarding Sonos, Sorin you are right
10:06 is the exact moment this speaker's value went up
Great video. 😊
Good job watching from 🇿🇲
hahahahahah insane! GG for fixing it ! its rly bad what they doing to get all your info :(
Sorin... you are dodgy. Proper calibrated fuse... 😁
All modern electronic gear requires full control of your location, data, google account etc. They get all the information about you.
That's right; the system needs it. It's all about control.
Maybe you can sell those special calibrated fuses😊
Thank you Sorin for speaking up against the proprietary app, enforced account creation and spamming. I'll never buy anything from Sonos.
No this is not a cheap speaker :-)
You're Awesome! Super helpful, I have the same thing! I Love you're repair!
JBL is the best solution for that portable speakers cheap & good quality sound
JBL = Junk But Loud
The angry sorin :D
Ty for free experience
come on Sorin it's a proper caliborated fuse you have a bench power supply rate it man🤣
Thats a nice sexy fuse!
I fully agree Sorin! Sonos don't buy it ! Trying to lock you in in every way possible and making repairs as difficult as they possibly can... Sadly it's the way manufacturers are going, but if
people stop buying this crap they will automatically disappear!
Clean that residue from shorted varistor ,that is conductive and it will burn the board.
What residue?? There is the burn sign on pcb and nothing more.
@@laboratorioassembler That burn sign is conductive .
@@laboratorioassembler Over time, between those two solder points, the board burns out due to the oxide that has been conducted
@@djordjelukovac8041 varistors are producing conductive burns? I will check
It's the carbon that conducts. Carbon oxide = Carbon monoxide. @@djordjelukovac8041
Hello sir I greet you from Ghana
Agreed !!! A few weeks ago I also bought smth, a device, that doesn't work but only with its own app... Very annoying this proprietary app-device relationship.
The construction seems decently made unfortunately software ruins most things today with those poor decisions made by companies at the cost of costumer experience. I also would not take this if someone gave it to me.
I'd take it.....then take it apart for the parts, etc. ;-)
I am in the market for a new sound system and I was thinking about Sonos.
I am not looking at Sonos anymore because I don't want to give my details away just to set up a Bluetooth connection.
@@anthonyshiels9273 I have edifiers they are bluetooth even if I never use it, no sign up mess to deal with. Reasonable priced and at least to my ear sound great. Not going to mention the model I have because they do offer a great line of budget to mid tier audio grade speakers. But by no means am I solely indorsing the product theres tons of good audio speakers today.
I think sonos made this speaker that way because of eco-system functions. But I believe they should add regular AD2P bluetooth functionality as well.
That looks like silicone rather than hot glue
@Droningonuk: I read an answer a while ago that I liked, here I reproduce it verbatim: "Although the manufacturer tapes the wires of the transformer windings, it is good practice to use transparent silicone (commonly used) to try to prevent moisture from penetrating that causes oxidation to the conductive wires due to the climatic conditions characteristic of each region". All the best.
I Have that speaker ;) Regards, good job!
Where to buy properly calibrated Sorin fuses?
In the proper calibrated store
@@MindYourBusiness1970: lol
He sells them in his rosin store ;-)
Yeh but he doesn't sell capacitors yet,no need for them@@englishrupe01
I’d chunk that thing in the nearest river, working or not! 😉✌🏻
simple, external over voltage fried the fuse and varistor. Its not a circuit issue.
I had a neighbor who would ask me occasionally to help debug his laptops, set up a TV sound bar, and other similar things because although he was an ace car mechanic, he was shit at this kind of stuff... One day he called me and asked if I would help him set up these new "Bluetooth" speakers he'd just bought... "They sounded great in the store, and they work with wifi", he said... I told him that the sales person probably talked a good game but that he needed exactly NONE of the features that this has over a normal Bluetooth speaker, at 3 times the price, and he should take them to the shop and get his money back! All I needed to do to convince him was remind him how insane it was the year before when we had to create an account with the bulb manufacturer just to be able to turn-on a porch light through his Google Dot! I pity those who do not have a nerd on-call for this kinda thing... lol
And you have to give a sample of your DNA to YT, if you want to thumbs up on your videos.
I agree it’s so awkward to set up but isn’t part of the reason is that it works on WiFi (quite well too?). WiFi connection has its benefits over Bluetooth - it will continue playing when your phone is off, take a call etc.
Sonos vs Sorin 😅 Sorin is the winner🎉
Spy Speaker .... Bad Gadget... Thank u for your info Sir Sorin...
This one has wound Sorin up, and i don't blame him.
At £180 it is not cheap, then it drives you crazy wanting full access to everything
that you prefer to keep secure before it will play anything.
Stupid or what? i wouldn't have one given either.
❤
Hello i found your channel last night and i am so intrested in everything. I plan on starting a simple repair shop so this channel is going to be very useful to me.
Thank you for providing so much information for free.
I have one question tho. What device do you use to charge a dead battery that displays the voltage qnd current reading?
I plan on ordering a couple of things i need for a start from AliExpress. I live in Nigeria so AliExpress is kind of my go-to place in buying these things at a decent price. Thank you so much I'll wait for a reply.
Bro use next 1 year just to watch all Sorins videos and you will have totally different look to everything and than think about opening shop :) trust me its going to be fun 1 year for sure if you have more time than watch video allday you will learn a lot :)
@@GlishaSo I'll definitely watch all his videos. I do find them to be really interesting anyways.
I should say I've got a degree in Computer Engineering but what's a degree without an actual experience eh? 😅 . And I'm mostly interested in Hardware so...
I'm currently in a Mandatory 1 year service for my country. I got accepted into a tech company for the service.
@@albarkajr9806 amazing! i am working with PC than laptop fixes lighter variant before like 20 years now trying myself in hardcore repairs :) 25 years my brain sucked so much knowledge it's amazing to have it and also on Sorins UA-cam i learned some tricks which did not know before when I was working alone. :) that's why I say its enjoy to watch his videos and how there is many different approaches to repairs. Good luck in your future business with you all best
It's not for free in reality - did you see how much he cried when UA-cam leaned on his advertising revenue a bit... That episode was quite enlightening - google decided to get the attention of one sector of their creators - the technical guys - by showing many fewer adverts than usual on their videos, and thus paying them a lesser amount due to fewer ad impressions. It goes to show how well google has their creators worked out - those creators didn't blame google/UA-cam who reduced their income, oddly they blamed adblock users, who in fact had absolutely no effect on their revenue, whether they watched videos or not. What one needs to figure out is who was used as the sop to feed the false information that it was down to ad blockers...?
If the fuse is blown then why does the fuse in the cable blow up?
Probably is 1.5A, and customer replace and poot 2, or higher Amps fuse and bow up inside. After that, no blowin up out fuse. Sorry my bad eng.
The Varistor probably failed short, its in parallel with the fuse Sorin said, which means there is still high current when the switch is flipped at the plug, blowing the plug fuse
Yes that is Ridiculous for sure having to set up a account just to use a bluethooth device we need to find a way to mod devices such as this one to work without a making a account More and more items are forcing you to do that I think soon every item we buy will be like that I just Hope there is a work around we can do to make it work without all the bs Another Great Repair Like Always Thanks Muchly for Sharing
I agree, except that this is not a bluetooth device
i send you one Sonos One SL for your birthday...just see you mad!!!
👌
What was the name of the black piece you took out that wasn't the fuse?
varistor
wait, so you didn't replace that varistor? how to check what specifcations of that varistor are ?
anyone know the size of the 4 screws under the bottom plate.
thanks
hi on some video write only for members how can i gonna be member to watching videos please
A couple of plastic automotive fuses would have been better, ever a car type fuse holder as well
I will stick with JBL speakers.
PeaceFromOz 😊
A homemade "fuse" like that can get hot and set the plastic on fire if it melt. This kind of fix they do in poor countries were safety is not prioritized.
Yes. Proper fuses use a metal that melts at a lower temperature. Copper gets way too hot.
One properly calibrated fuse later.....
Weeeeell, that's why some people gut those speakers and put a chinese amp in there instead just to have simple, plain Bt.
I had same issue with IP camera where I should register through they server to activate stream over internet, no way, I stopped using straight away. Privacy more important. If you can manage without third party then it's ok but these days they tracking us on every device, even mobile phone mic listen what you say and like you said they use for advertising e.t.c.
Not only tracking, but also controlling.
@@waynesallee-com yes, you are right, majority thinking like we are are sick conspiracy e.t.c.
How are they still in business??
Proper calibrated fuse 😂
Sexy proper calibrated fuse 😄
👍👍✌✌🥰🥰
Sorin, How you fell about the software of that Bluetooth speaker, I fell about Windows software. It is too expensive, buggy, invasion of privacy, security problems, and I think Microsoft did it on purpose. It uses hidden adhesion contracts that are unlawful, in that you made a contract to buy the speaker, but to use it you have to agree to these other contracts that are never on the outside of the package.
100%. Linux all the way.
That's why I use Linux.
😂 Fix was easy for you ,calibrated fuse but connecting bluetooth had you nearly throwing it in bin
If they give you something cheap, then you are the commodity.
The manufacturer using hot glue on places to isolate things, you use hot glue to mechanically fix something. Thats the diff.
The proper fix for these sonos speakers is to put it in the bin
I have a nice Bluetooth speaker and I don't have to install apps and all that garbage talk about privacy invasion...😊
Sorin short fuse blew up, wasn't a proper calibrated fuse :D I too hate when manufacturers force you to download an app, then give them all these special permissions to the app so they can spy on you better, and record your wifi pwd and location, rather than a normal hold pair button and pair with basic phone BT pair feature... Crazy nonsense...
This is like buying an electric car and then getting mad that you can’t fill up with gas 😂😂 this isn’t a bluetooth speaker so how else are you suppose to connect to it. Say what y’all want but I’ve yet to hear anything as good as a Sonos speaker. Using WiFi makes it so easy to connect my whole sound system at once.
Sorin, why don't you use a proper calibrated software hack? lol
I’ll stick with my Bose and my JBL. No messing about.
Sorin=✅, Sonos=❌.
Isn't that an X capacitor?
Could be.
No, it's a MOV. It says so on the board.
@@incandescentwithrageyou're right, missed that one
That speaker does not have BT. 😂 Sonos actually have some decent speakers.. if used accordingly.
They are expensive but stupid as duck...
So you can’t use it with simple bluetooth and you need to give permission to location and microphone? Those are not necessary things for it to work. I would indeed return the item and get a full refund. And others should do the same so manufacture will understand and be more privacy friendly.
These aren't Bluetooth, they're WiFi (or ethernet) speakers which operate on their own network. It wants mic access because when you are setting them up you use the microphone to get test tones from the different speakers in the room to identify the speakers and optimise the sound for the room. They're quite a complex system that generally works well. Only pain is in the new app you MUST set up an account to use it. :(
@@justinspiredfallout The optimization sound should be a user choice. Still not understanding why is mandatory to share your location and should be possible to use it locally without creating an account. Then if a user wants extra “optimization” he could choose so. What when in a few years the company no longer exists and you can not male an account o connect to there servers? This would become a total piece of junk. I would return it for a refund.
Is it only for spamming or also spying and feeding some AI, worth to think about it. It is ***, but i know people that actually will choose the product 'cause it has an app, that means quality, quality, quality for them. This i don't call cheap, it has nice loudspeakers and nice sound isolating foam. So i will remove the board, get a nice bt5 board + nice amp board (not cheap but so-called lossless) and enjoy a DIY speaker. Yeh something like that it will be angry me too.
I can’t believe Sonos are still going! They were caught ‘bricking’ models at a certain age, or if a subscription wasn’t renewed, yet people still buy them & think they have superior sound quality! They don’t!
There are so many better multi-room speaker options, without as much hassle! 😡
I normally really like your videos, however, concerned this time that you didnt fit a proper fuse and didnt replace the varistor which protects against over voltage.
Leaves you liable if a fire occurs due to your repair and no insurance company would payout to cover your liability as this is not a professional repair. You made it work again, that isnt the same thing, it has not been restored to manufacturer spec.
Wow. Niezłe 💩💩💩 ten głośnik. Dobrze wiedzieć żeby unikać tego 💩💩💩 i tej firmy.
Hi Sorin i have a laptop Asus with some issue if i send it without the battery can you please have look to repair

This repair isn’t recognized, because without valuable fuse and varistor.. bad
Registration and all that, then this device must be wery safe... 🙃
This thing do a suicide by itself.
why you become upset relax you old man😀😀😀🤣🤣
to the customer: PLEASE DO NOT REPEAT this dodgy repair!
Things connected to mains never should be repaired like this. A correct fuse is only some cents. This can result in serious injury and or fire!
And it's recommended to replace the blown component. I think this was more like a filter cap.
for this job i have to pay ??? this is not professional
Ivan, what 'professional' means? Explain please
@@electronicsrepairschool Just another troll, Sorin. Ignore it.
I cant stand that spamming crap everyone seems to be attaching to their products.
Umm, That is a wifi speaker. There is no bluetooth.
This time you haven't done your homework. Sonos is a brilliant multi-zone audio system and not a lousy Bluetooth speaker. In my opinion no competitors even come close to the usability and convenience of Sonos. I have 15 year old units that still work fantastic.
