"I'm done saving you." That moment was so chilling. I knew D-16 had to betray Orion Pax eventually, but I was still stunned in that moment. Brian Tryee Henry was phenomenal.
There was talk about this while the movie was running in theaters how it works as a great example of how "killing makes us like them" trope can actually work. When D-16 kills Sentinel, it is a senseless death because Sentinel is already dethroned, exposed, and powerless. D-16 and Orion have already won.
The best Transformers film yet. Optimus and Megatron's brotherhood getting torn apart is so sad yet fascinating. Also, as a Prime fan, I was thrilled by Airachnid's big screen debut.
@DanGamingFan2406 As a Prime fan did you noticed the music from transformers prime in the movie. I did when I heard it it brought a few tears to my eyes as it is one of my favourite transformers shows.
Everyone talks about the betrayal (rightfully so) BUT the "NO I WANT TO KILL HIM" with that silence was so sad honestly. The beginning moment of D descent into megatron :(
15:23 Yeah, that’s one of the main reasons Transformers always appealed to me. Watching them convert to their alternate mode and either drive, fly, or run off is always so mesmerizing to watch over and over again.
I went to go see this movie on the big screen, and my theatre was packed full of Transformers fans. I can guarantee that this is *THE BEST TRANSFORMERS MOVIE EVER!!!* Everyone in my theatre was on the edge of their seats in the 3rd Act and were clapping at the end of the movie, and Ive never seen people clap for a Transformers movie before! Everything from the stellar animation, music, fantastic fight scenes and choreography, the story, the character arcs and fantastic voice acting was just incredible. Chris Hemsworth and Brian Tyree Henry truly blew me away, mainly because they absolutely killed it as Optimus and Megatron and brought a level of humanity to the characters as you truly understand where both of them are coming from and how much they care for each other as friends as it genuinely breaks your heart watching them fall apart. Brian Tyree Henry especially brought such a level of complex tragedy and emotional pain as D-16/Megatron that Ive never seen before when it comes to the character since Megatron has never been portrayed as a sympathetic villain who was a product of a corrupt system before in media outside of the TF comics and I loved how you can see his thought process through his eyes and how he was genuinely happy being a miner and believed in the system, but after learning about the truth about Sentinel his entire world view shatters and his mental state slowly collapses more and more and the moment he was mocked and tortured by Sentinel D-16 finally has had enough and the moment he accidentally shots Orion we see I'm going through a complete emotional breakdown seeing his best friend almost dead but also perceiving it as a betrayal as D-16 has always had to cover Orion and save him for all his recklessness but he still chooses to take the bullet because he trying to save D-16 from making a terrible mistake but ultimately was too late and now only Megatron exists. Chris Hemsworth was also surprisingly excellent as Optimus Prime, and it really shocked me how much range he has as an actor/voice actor as he sounded like a young Peter Cullen. I especially love his arc of growing to understand his responsibilities and that scene where Orion inspires the miners to fight back against Sentinel was so empowering because it really shows what kind of person Orion is as I love the detail of Orion kneeling down at the miners' level because, unlike Sentinel, he was one of them and saw all of them as friends and family and inspiring all of them like a good father figure, which is everything Optimus Prime should be, a noble, hopeful leader whos never afraid to be gentle or compassionate to others. The movie is also surprisingly dark, as the trailers did not do this movie justice. There are genuinely a few mature and gruesome moments that shocked me and made me question whether this was a PG movie? It may have some moments of fun and levity for kids, which is funny, but when it needs to, it knows when to take itself seriously. It knows that the audience is smart enough to understand the Transformers franchise lore, which I appreciate. Im just disappointed with how poorly Paramount marketed this movie was as it truly deserved better promotion for such a great movie and yet the box office has many concerned that we might not even get a sequel, which I really hope this movie does get a trilogy of Transformers animated films because there is still so much potential to dive into the Civil War of Cybertron, the Quintessons, how Cybertron ultimately collapsed from the war and explore these characters on a deeper level.
Cogless bots unable to transform used as slave labour during the Quintesson rule is a lore element which was taken from the original G1 cartoon . :) Orion D-16 being close friends with Orion is from the Aligned continuity (WFC games, TFp) just like Sentinel being a puppet ruler, and being a Prime without having the Matrix in his posession. Megatron's D-16 low class miner bot origins was inspired by the IDW transformers comics/Aligned continuity, just like Starscream's backstory, and the Cybertronian class/caste system. XD I love this movie, the writers showed a lots of respect towards the already existing lore. :) Also fun fact Orion menas hunter, and Pax means peace in Latin (Hunter of peace)
The song of that epic scene is called "The Fall". But who is it falling? Orion Pax towards Cybertron´s core? Is D-16 falling into Darkness? Well, Sentinel was certainly falling apart!
The good news is this film is its own story separate from the Bayvere. So enjoy the origin story without trying to make hard connection to the live-actions.
@Oakjet1998 It definitely helps when there are no annoying or useless human characters in the movie like in the bayverse movies. And it's just about the transformers.
The Thirteen Primes are something from the comics and are comprised of Prima, Vector, Quintus, Solus, Megatronus, Liege Maximo, Nexus, Micronus, Amalgus, Alchemist, and Onyx. Alpha Trion was Optimus' maker in G1 so his addition to the line-up is an addition of this film, likewise with Zeta and Sentinel who were originally just Optimus' predecessors, who tend to be made into jerks in most continuities because for some reason writers like to make every other Prime beside Optimus awful.
Just a small correction, Alpha Trion has been a Prime before, he was a Prime in the aligned continuity and IDW comics (published in 2005), so he's been a Prime for at least 19 or 17 years
You have no idea how giddy it makes me to see people loving a transformers movie. Transformers One simplifies and changes a lot of lore and stories into a cohesive new take that’s pretty much the perfect entrance into the transformers franchise. It’s just important to note that transformers is like TMNT, where most shows are separate new takes that aren’t tied to one another, except for sometimes lol
I’ll admit, Eric. When I first heard about this film, I wasn’t exactly into it because although the picture for it is pretty neat, I was already familiar with this story. However, when I saw you react to this one, I took it upon myself to watch it afterwards. From there, I was blown away how they pulled this off. Throughout the story, I was pointing out many callbacks and Easter Eggs like the characters we’ve seen with the miners and the High Guard, how Megatron got the Decepticon emblem, how Starscream became the punk that served him and the subtle joke of why Bumblebee no longer speaks. Hell, those designs alone were honoring the original with the title itself since it is Generation 1, aka G1 of the franchise. What I love about this film the most was how this origin story is a combination of both the OG and Prime series since I have seen the episode and clips of how Optimus came to be and Megatron naming himself after the Primes; which was Megatronus. Furthermore, even though we all knew that this was bound to happen, it was pretty devastating to see how it came to this. Like you said, it was very understandable of why D-17 did what he had to do but with his entire life being shattered, he became even worse than Sentinel by trying to take down the very capital building of Cybertron by destroying the statues of the Primes. For a long time, I always wondered why both the Autobot and Decepticon insignias looked the way they were. I figured that Optimus’ face was inspiration since he’s the leader but I never would’ve guessed that Megatronus Prime is identical to the symbol that forever tarnished his legacy. Not bad, Paramount and Hasbro. Not bad at all.
I think story wise, Prime should not have banished Megatron he should've asked him to lead together as the military arm because of the quintasans, so the second movie keeps them cool, but there's a lasting tension so at the end you see the third movie is where the war starts
Even though Optimus and Megatron looked really cool at the end and ended up being enemies, I hope me and my best friend would never turn out like them.
This was the best piece of Transformers media to come out in YEARS!!! If you're interested in watching more Transformers related stuff, I highly recommend checking out Transformers Prime. Grew up with that show, and it's incredible.
TFO is such an amazing movie that got absolutely passed by in the theaters. That first trailer killed a lot of interest in the movie, even for much of the Transformers fandom.
Energon is a mainstay of the franchise going back to the original cartoon. The Matrix of Leadership made its debut in the 1986 film, which if you haven't seen, I would advise watching the 80s show first for maximum impact. This film draws from various Transformers continuities and a love letter to fans and perfect for the 40th anniversary. It saddens me that too many missed out in the theaters, not only for the film's box office sake, but the experience that you can only get in theaters. I am glad you like it as this has been one of the most positively received Transformers movies and I hope we get the planned trilogy because there's still much to the story to tell.
As a Transformers fan since G1 and the 90’s era, this movie makes me really happy to see Elita One get more focused and action. Scarlet Johansson fits perfectly for the character like she did with Black widow. I hope our favorite female Autobot lives longer in surviving the upcoming Autobot-Decepticon Civil War in future sequels. The only animated show where Elita one I know alive with Optimus Prime is in Earthspark. None of us want Orion/Optimus to suffered like he is in Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy Netflix series.
D-16 is not only a product of Cybertron’s failed system and takes on Sentinel Prime’s oppression though violent means all the social injustices he had experiences forged his transcendence into Megatron and building up to a rivalry with Orion turned Optimus Prime (due to wanting the same goal of a unified Cybertron but have different viewpoints). But their friendship is doomed since the shocking realization Sentinel has sold out Cybertron to the Quintessons after betraying his fellow Prime brothers and sisters, and ruled his planet through oppression. This what makes D-16 a much more compelling hero-turned-villain and a tragic character in Transformers history.
This and Beast Wars are among the few Transformers media without major human involvement and yet they are probably both the best ever made. There's no correlation of course, as we have had great human involved stories (G1, Prime, Animated, EarthSpark, Rise of the Beasts) I just wish the quality was consistant.
