One thing a good friend pointed out about Marco: look at how immaculate his appearance always is. He is a peacock in a culture that frowns on excess, but has cultists who never call him on it.
"The actor is doing amazing job. Can't stand the character." One of the things I really appreciate about your reactions is you take the time to separate the actor from the role. Not everyone does that as carefully as you do.
Bahia Watson who plays Sakai did such an excellent acting job when she was telling Jim to wait, then letting him go knowing she signed her own death warrant. If the Roci blew up then so would all of Tycho
Yes, this is really a shift to a different character, now named "Drummer." This character in the book is "Michio Pa." The name "Michio" has been given to one of this Drummer's crew (that small woman). Holden said, "Looks like the whole Montana grid collapsed." Well...we saw wind generators on the Holden freehold, so? But it does give us a clue of the widespread effects of the asteroid strikes. Holden did run the Roci through a full system check that we've never seen before, but not even Martian tech could find Naomi-code. Naomi figured out that her code was on the Roci when Philip said he'd saved her life by taking her. Also, earlier in the Pallas bar, Cyn had said to Naomi, "It was good to see you one last time."
The biggest clue was in this ep, when karal, talking about the augustin gamarra said, "and i thought we would be refreshing your memory" (this was cut from the reaction, happens at 31:30). you see her get a slight serious look in her face. I think she went to kill marco *because* she knew about the code being used, but not where. Then philip said the saving your life bit and she knew where.
A 50's Chevy against a Tesla is a very accurate comparison! MCRN ships are the most technically advanced in Solar System so far, and fresh ships like The Pella are even more advanced than Roci, that launched just about half a decade ago. Your guts are right about Drummer, she indeed possessed another character this season. The actress was too damn good and kept becoming more popular each season, so they started giving her more and more time. Series vs books are kinda like alternative realities if you ask me, with few bits here and there gone differently. The funniest change for me is that Bull (the foul-mouthed temporary pilot from this episode/season) in the books was actually in that lift shaft from Season 3, with broken spine, strapped into the mech loader, coughing his lungs out with pneumonia... and blowing the power-armoured belters out along with himself using grenades - unlike Camina he was no friend of Naomi's, so he actually did die in that moment, no one sent a lift to save his ass. All in all the most changes are made for one of the following reasons: - Shrink the budget - Fix some plot issues, weak characters, other inaccuracies - Productions issues, like actors having left the project, etc. Glad you're enjoying the season so far!
Yes you don’t get a true sense of the passage of time in the series but it does follow the same timeline as the books. Drummer left Marco alive so it didn’t destabilise the OPA factions at the time. She was looking at the bigger picture, which Ashford complimented she on later.
I feel that this is the point that we can add "post apocalyptic fiction" and of course "catastrophe movie" to the genre list of the Expanse^^. I really need to clamp down on my inner spoiler-launcher, especially since I know you're a bit farther along with the show but S05 is, much like S03, a masterpiece of narrative compression, given how much is going on in the novel and it feels that very little is lost but nothing feels rushed. Best regards and a Happy New Year Raoul G. Kunz Addendum: I just got the rest of my Pre-Finance Dragon's Tooth set, all three in hard-cover, a box, a Roci beanie, the commemorative coins, patches and all that. Got to gloat here for a sec^^.
Wow, seems like you just started the series yesterday! Hard to believe you’re already on Season 5. Soon you’ll join the rest of us, scouring UA-cam for new Expanse reactors. Soon enough we’ll see you in the comments sections with the rest of us! 🎉
I discovered the show right before this season came out, so it was the first one I watched in real time. I was surprised how much criticism this season got, given that every single episode is riveting, and the season as a whole is a ride. I agree with the comments here about how masterfully they were able to squeeze so much stuff into 10 episodes.
@@nrran6835 I only clarified for ppl who were going to read the books and could only clarify because I was reading book 3 at the time. I have spent the last week thinking...I really hope I didn't come off as one of those nerdy a-holes that point out when someone says something wrong.😅
You're absolutely right about the acting in this series being top notch. If you want to see more of it, check out Orphan Black and The Strain. Both are really good series and they both feature several actors from The Expanse.
Drummer let Marco go because the disparate Belter factions were finally starting to work together and she feared that executing him would fracture the hint of unity, possibly even causing a Belter civil war. Given how much power Marco already had at that point, she probably wasn't wrong, but she's now realizing that what ended up happening might be far worse. Second guessing yourself is a bad habit, though. Sure, go over it to see if there was a better option based on the available information, but you can't judge a decision based on information you didn't have at the time. Yeah, letting him go was a bad thing, but there was no way for her to know what he was planning. The only way I can see to have made a better decision in that moment would have been to put her vote in earlier and let the deciding vote be someone else's. Compared to Inaros, who gives me chills whenever he's talking, Tiny is practically lovable.

Amos suplexing Konechek down the elevator shaft is one of the all-time great moments of this show.

this season is chock full of "NO! You CANNOT leave the episode off there!!!" moments
I know for sure Ty Franck would chuckle every time he calls the writers motherfucking pricks for ending with a cliffhanger every single time lol :D
"F**k you god, you missed again!" - Tiny
(14:58) 😂
Apparently Amos has better aim.
I knew you would enjoy Konecheck! and his demise.
Happy New Year my Friend, awesome to see the best day of the week again!

Great reaction Warp. Very good analysis also!
A lot of surprises coming with some emotional moments!

Oh hey - I forgot it was Thursday (the best day of the week) - what a nice surprise!

Tiny!!!
Best Suplex in TV history 😂

Finally, the best day of the week!
You're picking up on so much - appreciate you catching the details.
the initial death count was supposed to be in the billions, but the studio nixed it because they thought it sounded too depressing. Stupid studio
I call this episode "The one with the Suplex"
There is a Camina Drummer in the books. Nothing like the one in the series
You’re correct re book 5 not being Drummer. It’s actually Michio Pa. She was also the XO on the Behemoth and Ashford was the captain in book 2.
book 3
@ Oh right. Derp.

Hmm, who is in The Strain from The Expanse?
@jotace8667 Cas Anvar (Alex), Paulino Nunez (Rev. Hector Cortez), Jess Salguiero (Wei), Steven McCarthy (Jakob Mazur), and others.
The best day of the week.

"I feel frustrated for Naomi" just wait for it... what naomi endures in this season would have broken me 10 times over!
Happy New Year!
May 2025 bring health, wealth, love and happiness to you and your family.
Thank you, my friend! I hope the same for you and yours!
Expanse day! So, what's new?
Hahaha, I've watched that dozens of times. Still funny.
EXPANSE DAY! 😎✊🤘
Or divide the remaining protomolecule, and fire some at both planets 😂
lol - never gets old… :)
Suplex City.
