How to Defend: Head-Arm Triangle Choke

  • Опубліковано 24 лип 2024
  • Used in the UFC by Chris Weidman, Randy Couture, and Brock Lesnar, the head-arm (or arm triangle) choke is a fight-finishing submission. Lucky for you, Coach Vince teaches not only how to secure the choke, but also how to defend and escape this position.

    I can't believe I've never seen that defense before---passing your endangered arm around to the other side of their head. This is great!

    I train at a mma gym and I’m thankful for this channel. These techniques are not fake at all! But just like every technique you use, you just need to know when to use it. These are one of the fighting channels I try to watch daily and I appreciate the knowledge you put out Oss.

    Shane, Vince, great video! One defense I’ve had decent success with is pushing on the arm that’s caught in the triangle. The caught arm makes a fist, and the free arm pushes on it against your opponent to create some space. It gives me at least some room to breathe, and can sometimes create enough space to bring my arm around my opponent

    I saw another technique from when the opponent has the choke and is starting to tighten it up and apply pleasure. They called it “talking on the phone” or something like that, but basically all you do is twist the arm inside the choke and then bend it and hold it against your head like you’re talking on the phone. I don’t know how effective it is because I don’t compete but if it works it works. Thanks for the video you guys!!

    • @erikbritz8095
      @erikbritz8095 5 років тому

      gracies pointed it out on their channel if i am not mistaken yeah you wiggle the elbow down as if you are blocking a hook or something along those lines i for one know grabbing the elbow and pushing down on the forearm muscles using the tip of your chin works like a charm cause you are essientially forcing a bone into the arm they are trying to choke you with also this means they are not choking you so you can wait it out if the fighter is dumb enough to squeeze on a sharp bone for example just before the sinches in the full choke slightly pull back his arm push down jamming the chin into the opponents arm causing a shoveling effect and just ride it out ive done it with headlocks RNC's and more issue is it puts a lot of pressure on your chin and neck muscles so be ready but this will hurt the opponents forearm badly so it's worth it

    • @vincentmeis5441
      @vincentmeis5441 5 років тому +1

      If you use that defence, the attacking position can pin your elbow in the position, and pull your wrist out. This creates pressure from twisting in your elbow similar to an Americana.

I tend to get that to happen to me. I have a really bad habit of tending to go flat on my back depending on who I am rolling with. And he just puts his weight on top pretty much. Sometimes I get out of it, but I wanna know some ways to go about it. Thank ya

    Fun physiology fact, you can easily be fine with a 80% stenosis on one side (impaired blood flow), by using overall pressure regulation inside the brain and therefore compensating for it; take this with a grain of salt, as I've seen this on a 79 year old male stroke patient, over Doppler. Feel free to comment

      when they sinch it get to your knees circle to the opposite side of the arm that's trapped in the traingle roll the opponent on his neck and apply pressure downward this hurts a lot and forces them to release or go after an arm bar of which you curl your arm pushing down so they can't use their hips and move to north south position or seperate and re-ingage hope i explained this in an understandable way but these are two i remember from my mma days sad i couldn't keep training but that is life

    • @erikbritz8095
      @erikbritz8095 5 років тому

      do you mean like crosses and straight jabs to the body cause they are fairly easy to avoid i mean just time the opponent when he goes to the body and move straight back or angle away blocking for hooks coming at your head? i love using body shots so i believe these tactics will help just know when they go to the body you are open up top and when they go to your head they will go right after the body cause now you are open below so when blocking the head time the body shots and block up top and move back or block and angle away from the rear cross coming for your body hope this helps...

    Hey Shane, not to long ago I started kickboxing and I was told that I have really good technique and all but recently, we started sparring and I am having a lot of trouble keeping my eyes open , guard up and I keep getting hooked to the point were I feel like my cheeks are going to explode which kind of made me enjoy the sport less and less . Do you have any idea how I could improve other than sparring? because people at my gym are kind of aggressive.

    • @erikbritz8095
      @erikbritz8095 5 років тому

      spar outside the gym with people a lil less aggressive and also start timing the shots comming and force your eyes to not flinch and close i am a beginner in boxing and i have the same thing happen when i don't spar for extended periods of time but i quickly get over that via going out setting my own pace then feeling out and timing the opponents shots and slowly into the rounds get more used to it then i turn up the volume a lil bit but make my opponents burn their gas tank overly aggressive sparring partners you should avoid and if you can't change gyms and then there fight from less aggressive all the way up but for now go with the least aggressive out of all the dudes there and feel them out(let them punch time the shots and eat a few while trying to stop yourself from flinching) while you do this just jab cross to keep them from just storming you and also whenever you get hit always attack back with a 1-2 or any strike this is to build the habbit of not back pedaling the entire time then after you felt them out and you don't fear the shots as much start working on evading the hook and from there just try and counter or even pressure etc. if this doesn't work first time out repeat it for a few sessions and i guarantee you will get over the flinching aka closing your eyes and will deal far better with aggro sparring partners if this helps you adapt stay at this gym if not move to another gym man people are asshats some times

      Who said something about being in the ring? Well... clearly Shane and his friend are showing us those techniques to use in the octagon or ring... because this kind of videos are with that purpose
      So who said something about being in the ring? Them.
      If you are in a street fight... of course you can do it... duh..
      You are new around here or something, pal?

      @@jessalaguicia7088 to know a technique, you learn the whole aspect of it, all its strengths and weaknesses and not just the part only used in the ring
      Shane did a great job in explaining the mechanism of the techniques, but the part where he's lacking is the realistic view of them. (I understand him coming from a teaching background as a coach, thus he's usually focus on the ring department, but he still needs to teach the whole truth, and this is what separates the mentality of being in the ring or in a life and death situation, to learn martial arts is to prepare for both)
      Martial arts were designed to incapacitate, cripple and worst case scenario , kill. If you wish to learn the art, learn all of it, only then , you can learn to hold back.

      You still missing the points of this video, probably because you are out of context.
      To understand the context check his channel and there is a lot of videos of tips and stuff about street fighting.
      This video its *focused* on techniques to do *in a legal match with rules*.
      If you want to see techniques to do out of the ring... this is *not* one of these videos. Check his channel.
      Thats why he didnt show us how to use the elbows, because they are showing us how to defense ourselfs in *a ruled match.* If you want to see how defend yourself in street fight, ill say again, check other videos of his channel, this one is not for you.
      So... yeah, understand the context, pal.
