- You may be thinking..."HEY THAT'S PEWDIEPIE's MIC!!!
And...well...you would be close.
This is the C414 XLS, his was the XL2
So...not much different, but also one of the few mics that I would almost always recommend.
This thing is super flexible and has endless options for your next project!

Thank you for doing such great reviews. Excellent !
Cheers!
Thanks for watching!!
Great video! Impressive stuff using it without any pop filter/windscreen!
lol...I have learned my lesson in previous videos...lol
Thanks for watching!
I recently purchased the C414 XLII, great investment.
great video..just wanted to know if the same filter applies to even instrumental, am using the 414 with Omni position, inside my room as the instrument I play is wide, just like the hammered dulcimer, still, find my recordings muddy when compared to the greats, maybe its post-processing work, pls suggest
Love your new studio!! WOW, this mic sounds AMAZING!! And this is from a fan of SHURE! #thanks!! :)
To be fair...this mic would sound amazing on most people.
As for the studio...thanks.
Its a work in progress!
This mic is a masterpiece. Great for music of course but can also be used for voice overs, narration and Hollywood studio stuff.
Sweet, my second favorite sound mic.., my first is the U67 but since that one is almost 7K's, so this one is the one to get :D
This one also has so many patterns and roll of options, that is a no brainer to get, when I saw that is the price range of the 103, I don't see a reason not to get this one for home studios, as is like getting 3 microphones. Is neutral, easy to EQ cause does not boost nothing out of the ordinary, except the bass, but the roll offs works really great.
It did sound amazing in your voice with the roll off, almost no EQ need it.
That is the beauty of a more expensive mic...they suit more voices and require less intervention.
As for the U67...I would love one too...but I love being married more...heh.
Thanks for watching!
I have a matched pair of C 414 B-XLS ... maybe a discontinued version... I'm not sure... Anyway 80 bass roll-off is just fine for your voice
Hi! Thank you for the great video! The microphone sounds fantastic, your voice is very detailed. But I don't know that I can use the AKG C414 xls as a speaker microphone (for podcasts and videos) in a conventional apartment. This is a studio condenser microphone. At my desk, you can hear my laptop fan and some mediocre streetnoise. The apartment has carpeted floors and the acoustics of the room are actually good (you can't see the walls, it's heavily furnished). What do you think, will the cardioid polar pattern filter this noise at least to an acceptable degree? Or should I almost always speak very close into the microphone? Many Thanks.
No...this mic...and mics like it are meant to be used in a controlled environment
and tell me something that you have this microphone and have already tried to compare the sound recorded after being recorded there on whether it is really good or it would only be good if it was recorded on tape just like Fred Mercury did there in Queen on digital is much better than the other microphones or is it not that much?
Is it much better than the at4040?
Hello dear! This is a great review! I have a question. I wanna buy a good mic for recording violin do you prefer this one or tlm 103 or other mic?(it can be also a small condenser paired) as violin is a high pitched instrument that easily tends to be harshly so what you suggest?!
Very much prefer this mic over the 103...especially for violin.
The versatility of the c414 makes it the perfect mic for it...
The next best may be some pencil mics...but I think the C414 would be the best bet
@@DarkCornerStudios so tnx! I will buy one tomorrow! Seller just wanted me to buy tlm 103!😄
got it just used it for vocals and it was great bro need to know how it works for recording guitar cabs great job late
Nice!
Did you buy it or rent?
What are the mic settings for rap vocals?
I love akg products you should make videos about this brand. Love your videso too
Whatever I can get my hands on.
Cheers and thanks!
Hi. Im thinking about podcasting aside from recording music. I have this mic, bae 1073, apollo twin duo and logic. Any tips or base settings for recording podcast vocals with that equipment? I'm not an experienced engineer and would like to produce a podcast show for my church.
Wow...that is one heck of a setup.
The mic and interface are pretty straightforward.
As for Logic...watch a couple videos on how to...and you will be fine.
I know its overwhelming but its not as bad as you might not think.
Let me know how it goes
@@DarkCornerStudios i want to connect 2 mics to record the podcast. Can I record this mic and a rode podmic with what i have since they're 2 different type of mics? Which mic could I pair with the akgc414 thats around the same price point as the rode podmic $100?
@@houseofgraceworship A Shure SM58 is a great buy at $100
Hi ! I have a high voice Do you think this mic is good high voices as is more flat than the XLII ? Thanks
It is much flatter than the xl2...this should work just fine.
My dream mic is an AKG C12. They are like $6000 though
I know right?
One day when we are rich we can do it!
Can you tell me if this microphone is manufactured only in one place or does it have several places that manufacture it in several factories in different places in different countries?
Used to be produced in Austria...and is now produced in Hungary.
As far as I know...there are no other places on the list
@@DarkCornerStudios tanks
The price of the Neumann TLM 103 & and the AKG 414 XLS/ XLII has double in long and McQuade the price is literally $1,900 CAD each microphone add the warranty. THAT'S ABSOLUTELY NUTS!!!
How does it compare to the neumann-tlm103-condenser-microphone
Different beast.
As far as I am concerned, this was a lot smoother on my voice and went better with my tones.
Very comparable to a tlm 102...though even smoother and needed less to make it sound silky on me.
This is by far...the BEST mic I have ever had the joy of playing with...
And I have played with a lot.
Akg c414 or tlm103 was better for your voice?
Price has gone up $150 at Long & McQuade. I'm sure it's not their fault but just mentioning it.
is this a good deal for 700 ? compared to the slate digital modeler mic, audio technica 4050?
Personally I would go with the C414...especially at that price.
For me though I have never been a fan of modelling mics.
@@DarkCornerStudios yea i know some reviews say its not good to relay software to get a good sound. what about the neuman TML 102? ive herd that the C414 xls is not really intended for vocals?
@@nickmathews6226 yea well its kinda hard to find the right one if i dont have any local places where i can test them. i want something with nice character i was thinking about the neuman 102 or the wearm audio not sure the model but they in the same price range
@@nickmathews6226 the audi technica they are good but they very flat natural sounding without character i had some in the past
So can I use it to sing and play my acoustic guitar? How bout recording ? Thanks
Oh yeah...this thing is a beast for recording...and one of the most respected in Studios around the wprld
@@DarkCornerStudios thank you
is akg c414 xls for voice or instrument? xls is not for voice, right? xl2 is for voice, or?
Rarely are mics like this only specific to one type of use.
Any and all mics are free game to use as you see fit.
Example - one of the top mics for VO work is a boom mic...the MKH416
The XLS is a far better microphone than the XL2 - also for vocals. I know some former AKG developers here in Vienna and some of them are really frustrated that the XL2 even exists ;-). I guess the XL2 was mainly created because the marketing department requested it. When you record Vocals with the XL2 they sound pleasing at first (because of the presence boost) but trust me they are way harder to mix than vocals recorded with the XLS. You can boost high frequencies on tracks recorded with the XLS a lot with most vocalists without getting too sibilant. With the XL2 ... no chance ;-(.
@@kaplanhirschmannmusic893 I have decided that I dont even want to try it...
But the XLS has taken over as my most wanted mic for this channel...
It sounds SO FREAKING GOOD on me...
Cheers and thanks for watching!
Would you recommend this for a high pitched voice or the xl 2?
Honestly it is a bit brighter, though it is warmer and can handle the frequencies just as well as the XL2
That said...if you can, I would try to get them side by side if you are worried...
Really hard to recommend without actually doing a comparison on your voice.
I prefer the XLII...
Yayyyy, I just found one of this on my husband’s basement . I’ll be using it soon to record videos.
Now why can't I find one of these in MY basement?
Sob
@@DarkCornerStudios 😂
What is the difference between the c414 xls and the c141b xls?
Assume you mean differences between the XLS and XL2...
The XL2 sa a slight lift on the high end...making the mic a bit brighter.
Many think that is what makes it better for vocals...though I have yet to get my hands on the XL2...I will let you know when I know.
@@DarkCornerStudios no, I meant the c414 xls and the c414b xls ... I just bought 2 c414b xls mics and I don't see them listed anywhere, only the c414 xls
@@rebth1st I have no idea...I have never heard of the "b" variant.
I would check that with AKG themselves...and confirm that you didnt buy counterfeit mics...
Wait...just found them...they are a discontinued reference mic...
Sadly I wouldnt know what the differences are...there is very little info on them...aside from being discontinued
