My 20 something kids were into Cake, many years ago. They turned us on to Cake. My wife and I took them to a Cake concert at a nearby college campus. It was one of the greatest times we had as a family. We all love music, from different eras. But Cake brought it all together. It was awesome.

My interpretation of this song is a guy who's trying everything he can to be with a woman, which is trying too damn hard, told like a guy in a car race that was long over but he keeps going.
My interpretation is that the guy and his girl ARE bumping uglies. He is racing and chasing, going as fast as he can. He’s going for speed. He’s going the distance. And she’s all alone in her time of need. He’s just focused on finishing the race - he’s not concerned with her. She hopes the memory of being with this loser will fade.

Cake is basically their own musical genre. Love that punchy bass and guitar! I think it's a baritone guitar. (deeper tone than a regular guitar)
