    From watching all the ratting videos previously and here, it's evident Bindi is turning out to be an efficient hunter. She has the prey drive, tenacity, listens to commands(an very important factor), a nose made for sniffing out prey, fearless of hunting prey and has no issues going into whatever environment she's put. Bindi's size and characteristics is perfectly suited to Joe's line of work, and she continually impresses with her skills.

    I am reminded of a farmer I knew a few decades ago. He pastured his hogs and supplemented with grain daily. He said he always had four to eight rat terriers hunted the rats around the feed troughs daily. He said their work saved him a large amount of money every year by keeping the rodent population in check.

    Hello, watching the dogs work in there element was incredible. At first it looks like total chaos but as you watch there’s a method to your madness Joe it is poetry in motion. Catching all of those rats on that one farm, wow I! So you think about how much food the rats eat, and how much of the grain is left for the farmer to use to support his farm it’s crazy. You had one said that a rat can eat a pound of food? I think you said that at the pheasant farm. I could be very wrong about that quote but I think I’m right. I can’t understand why people don’t just use the old method. Which is a handler and his dogs .
    Thank you for bringing us along. Kathy

  • @metarugia3981
    @metarugia3981 2 роки тому +8

    The dogs/mink team dynamic is so awesome and fascinating to see on these ratting hunts, something I'll never get tired of. The smaller dogs will get right in to the thick of the action by sniffing them out(Bindi probably has the best nose) and finding the source, while the larger one(Boss) usually hangs back and pick off the strays and runners and then the mink/s are unleashed into the nooks and crannies to catch or flush out the remaining rats in hiding. They(dogs and mink/s) all know their strengths/weaknesses, play their part and work together in harmony without any infighting. It may seem chaotic during these ratting hunts, but boy do they get the job done! Amazing work on Joe's part to assemble such a team and it's no small feat to get 2 different types of predators(dogs/minks) to work together and make it look so easy.

    These are always fun to see and it's fun to see new dogs with various backgrounds too! Bindi is great and you can really see her training history shining through at this first ratting. In comparison, it's also a blast to see a dog like Leeroy running solely on instinct and what his breed was made for!
    Also appreciate that you made notes about leeroys newness as it would have been easy for viewers to think poorly of him or his owner and this made it clear he was doing well, jsur needed to learn a lot in comparison to a dog like bindi who has been training for this literally her whole life. Similarly, it was fun to see you educate the dogs humans about farm hunting! :D

    This was amazing!!! Great teamwork, new and old human partnerships forming, and more of the country benefitting from the Mink Man's expertise. Leeroy really did learn quickly - Kim must be proud! You didn't say which mink it was, and I wondered what happened with it - maybe in one of the future videos? I also wondered what you're going to do with the live rats you caught: is there a local pet store there that would use them, like you have back home? Suggestion: Maybe in the video desciptions you could list the names of all the animals (mink and dogs) we're seeing in that video, including if they're related to one of your animals (I didn't want to scroll back through the video, and I forgot how one of Kim's dogs is related to Boss). Thanks Joe! Stay safe & happy ratting! 😀

    Joe, this was a hunt on steroids - dogs, rats and humans flying in all directions! All of the time and effort you spent training Bindi certainly paid off because she did a spectacular job and it was her first hunt.

    The importance of keeping a clean farm seems key to both keeping rats out and helping the dogs if they do multiply.
