    I used it on the USA as Japan once. I killed 2 carriers(literally all of the carriers in the port) in the first strike, damaged and sunk several battleships in the second and third ones, then run away. It was great. For like a year Us navy didn't do anything in the pacific expect submarine operations and convoy escorts. It was pretty much irl pearl harbor but if the carriers were there.

    Posting random facts because I don't have LaR, round 5: The initial plan for the Japanese strike on Pearl -Harbour- Harbor, which I figure this mission is intended to allow for via in-game mechanics, initially called for three waves of aircraft (the third wasn't sent out in the end because the risk was deemed too high and the reward too low) and was largely considered a failure by the Japanese because they ended up destroying too many Battleships and not enough of anything else - which, in hindsight, is probably very accurate.

  • @yigitoz8387

    As a follow up to the first comment. I strongly recomenned everyplayer that has carrier strike groups themselves to use this if they know which port the enemy stores their capital ships. In the strikes we lost like 70 planes but sunk 2 carriers and sunk/damage several battleships. It's really worth the effort.

    So, I did some testing a while back when La Resistance first released. In a game where I setup the entire British Navy in one port and amassed about 3 to 4 thousand naval bombers doing port strikes over the air zone the navy was stationed in.
    I did the co-ordinated strike with a maxed out Naval Base strike doctrine and Air CAS doctrine and had the entire fleet sunk.
    All of Britain's ships sunk once the co-ordinated strike operation completed. I'm not sure if it is still that effective since the test was ages ago but if it is, then it'd be very powerful but situational to use.

    • @Dostav
      @Dostav Рік тому +1

      Yes, exactly! For a coordinated strike you have to know where enemy planes or ships are stationed at, otherwise whole operation is pointless.
      What air wing size did you have though? As I know it supposed to be around 25-50. Though if all British navy was at one single port, then even 4000 air wing would make the job done. In a real game that just would not work.

Once as USA vs the Soviet Union in an Operation Unthinkable scenario (dogshit waste of time) and once as Japan against the USA to just fucking brutalize Hawaii because it felt fitting and in that case I did sink a carrier and a bunch of cruisers and destroyers but it was still... I dunno. It was one of the best Pearl Harbor attacks I have managed but it was a lot of hassle for very little pay off and frankly I don't think it would ever work against a player. Like you said, it would only ever be useful against like the Philippines and that is if you don't plan to immediately launch naval invasions because then it just becomes your problem instead.

    That's very interesting. In the final part, you mentioned the port of Manila and that Japan could use it to strike against it. Also perhaps a better target would be Singapore, as British Malaya is also its own country so you can do an operation there (+ usually British Malaya doesn't have as good counter intel as say Britain/US/Soviets?) and as Singapore port is basically always level 10 at least when war breaks out, that could be a huge supply factor if Japan can take it out instantly. That should be tested!

    • @stormsand9
      @stormsand9 Рік тому

      It could be interesting to strike Singapore that way to maybe deny fleet logistics from non-U.S allies, but keep in mind that the port of Singapore is only good for supply not repairs, since the dockyards used for repairs are drawn from british malaya, and they only have like 1-3 usually.

Maybe it's one of those where it's really up to the player to decide if they want to use that tactic or not, because that might just be a skill to learn how to use in itself. Or maybe it's just too much for something that might pay off. Either way there seems to be heavy support for it being a nuanced in ability, niche in choice, yet powerful pick.

  • @Dostav
    @Dostav Рік тому

    Even though I have not used it even once, it should be really useful. Like what is the historical example of this? The first day bombings of soviet air fields by Germany. Yes, hoi4 doesn't show how many planes have you destroyed after bombing airfields, but you still should do it. But to execute such a feit destroying ships or airplanes with airfields you need to know where exactly they are based. So you need to use that intelligence for that that you use for that operation.
    And as I know, using big air wings for naval base bombing isn't effective. 25-50 air planes at one wing is optimum. Imagine sending 400 air planes at one wing to bomb a naval base, the most won't be able to bomb even, they should come in small groups one after another. The same thing works with naval bombing. If your 100 naval bombers wing detected 5 trade convoys, only ~25 would be able to bomb. I wonder though how the hell it is supposed to work now in BBA, if every wing supposed to be 100 planes. I guess they forgor.

      Assuming they're station there... but that's kinda the problem you need to find the fleet and it's usually not all in the game place.

      @@Pydgin that's why you need recon planes / Intel. Recon planes will literally spot them, and high Intel will populate the information when hovering over an enemy port, even telling you exactly which fleets are stationed in a base, if the Intel is high enough

    ive done it multiple times but never actually know what it does other than declear war. it just looks cool tho. maybe port strike is good since AI will relocate their ship after getting strike but still, who cares about navy other than rp and pf.

    Only a single region, only once for declaration, only for strategic bombing and port strikes, but without interference from state AAA? Seems like something minors can abuse in MP when they join the war. Like when Spain joins the Axis, for example using it on the Rock aka Gibraltar?
    To use a port strike effectively you'd need to 1)know where the damn navy is parked in the first place; 2)have another allied fleet on patrol in same region to intercept the navy when it tries to leave said port. So it's already questionable value for Axis as they don't have powerful navies except japanese one and are on the different sides of the globe. US can probably use it in conjunction with War Plan [InsertColourHere] to destroy parked navies when joining WWII.
    For strategic bombers it all depends on number of bombers. If you have enough to destroy AAA and airfields of said state in one day, maybe it's worth it? But then again, it needs to be a state that would be a major supply bottleneck for the enemy. So capitals then? US bombing Berlin infrastructure, railways and supply hubs while Luftwaffe is still in the English Channel with thousands of B-29?

    The issue with it is that it requires Civs; civs are precious, why waste my building time to have a better chance at damaging enemy infrastructure and factories for a single day or a better chance to sink a few of their ships? We ought to simply be able to plan the thing for free

    Coordinated strike is amazing, but also horrible in some points.
    If you get 100% naval intel of another country (or cheat if possible), you will see that ai usually keep ships away and all togheter from the frontline before the war. It's easier for USA do a pearl harbor against japan than japan do against usa. In multiplayer can be another beast, because players usually organize ships earlier.
