Jonas Kahnwald is probably the most tragic teenage hero I've ever encountered. To watch this ordinary boy become so deeply disturbed by his existence and the circumstances that surround it that he eventually becomes omnicidal was such an intense ride.
In this video, I was prompted to portray the journey of him growing into himself, into the stranger and then Adam, something he deliberately fights. I really like the whole 'by trying to avoid your destiny you ensure that it becomes fate' narrative the show has going on, and I tried to show how much of a big deal that is to Jonas. He tries and tries to change things yet he always ends up just ensuring it all happens same as always. That's both frustrating and fascinating to watch, and saddening, when you think that for very long he held on to hope for normalcy then change until the loop made him a full cynic.
There's a lot of talk about roles and fate here, and a lot of his love interest slash nemesis slash soulmate Martha, cause she's in one way or another his biggest motivator through the whole saga. All in all, I hope I did a good job with this heartbreak of a character.

I still miss this show so much and the impact it left on me, wow. I loved how you portrayed Jonas and his story in such a brilliant and meaningful way. The way its intertwined with Martha's as well just makes me equal parts sad and happy, and your editing showed just how much he's trying to change her fate and his. I loved this so much!
Alright here goes! After a bunch of rewatches I feel like I can finally start putting my thoughts into words! I have a lot of things to say about this and I'm still a little overwhelmed so bear with me here haha.
First off, once again thank you so much for helping me bring this idea to life. It's been haunting me for almost a year at this point and now I can finally listen to this song again without thinking it over contantly! I was so nervous about putting this idea out there because I've been playing with it in my head for so long but I'm just really glad I decided to go for it. You really managed to capture exactly what I've been imagining, even with how much I left up to you.
Honestly I love what you did on the storytelling front, Jonas to me is one of the most fascinating and tragic characters I've seen in media in a long time and you totally portrayed all of his development so well. I love how you also managed to tie it a little into the overall story of the show while never losing the focus on him and his two biggest influences (Michael and Martha respectively). Everything ties together so well. I especially like how you started with more focus on the whole Michael storyline, then moving on to the bigger conflicts where things get more complicated and messy and it feels like we really get to experience everything again thought his eyes.
I also adore all those small like... time leap/flash transitions and invert flashes and things like that? It's these smaller things that really make your videos stick out to me. You pay so much attention to detail and they always help amplify the mood of your edits so so much. All of these were so well placed yet not overdone or distracting at all.
There's also a few parts that stood out to me in particular that I feel like pointing out lol.
1:00 onwards honestly just left me speechless first time I watched it. So many scenes you used here I had put down right there when I tried my hands on this edit, it felt like you just took them out of my head?! But you managed to just connect everything so well and make it work with both the song and the rest of the video in a way I was unable to do in the end. But I just loved to see this so close to my original idea.
1:16 How seemlessly you connected those voiceovers?! My god. I gasp at that one every time I watch the video haha.
2:00 HURTS ME SO BAD. All those parallels right after another?! I'm not okay wow. I mean I know the show plays with those deliberatly but you found so many throught the whole video. These ones in particular tho. That's so painful.
2:20 GOOSBUMPS. Wow. That voiceover and then that scene fit so well with that part of the song, I just died a little inside. The way you hit the momentum here I'm just. Ahhh. I wanna cry.
There's so much more in my head but before I turn this into incoherent rambeling I think this is a good time to stop lol. I'm honestly so happy with how this turned out and I'm so glad you also had fun with it too / that you finally got to work with this show! :)

... I don't even know where to start! This is incredible! The parallels, the voiceovers, the way you constructed that vid, the story of this character... It's all flawless and absolutely wonderful!!! It is an amazing character study and such a tribute to this heartbreaking character!

I love your Video, also the creators of Dark (Odar and Friese) started on a new show together "1899". It stars Andreas Pietschmann again (aka the Stranger/older Jonas). It's going to be a show which connects multiple languages and people from europe, as they travel on a ship. Sounds like something Dark fans will enjoy. They just started shooting 3 weeks ago but it will be on Netflix as well.
