I’m 56. I grew up with only old hippies wearing Birkenstocks - so to have someone try to say that they are for young people- is so misinformed
They are for everyone who likes them.
She said that she thought they were for everyone! 😊
Windbreaker over evening wear looks like walk of shame! 😮😂
😂😂😂😂😂 omg the best comment 😂😂
Windbreaker it's my go to... I use my bike on a daily basis. I am almost 40 and ppl think I am 26...
But it's my lifestyle that makes it work.
If you wear random things because it's on trend but it's not in the right time and place, it would be obvious you are trying to look younger...like boomer using alpha words sounds cringe.
Mini skirt and mini dress are fine if you wear the right stocking and shoes.
The reveling skin above the knee it's what screams "spring break girl under 21"...
I feel we judge more then we should. I know ladies in their 70 with great lags, but they fear wardrobe malfunction too much to wear any skirt
I like my Birkenstocks. They provide some foot support. My ballet flats, on the other hand, zero support. I still wear them in my advanced years. I like what I like.
I have two identical pairs of Birkenstocks -- one for indoors and one for outdoors. Perfect support, easy comfort, great for maintaining healthy feet and good posture. The outdoor pair have logged numerous miles on summer dog walks. Over the years, I have had them resoled twice.
I cannot stress this enough, wear what you love, no matter what anyone says or thinks. If it makes you happy then that is all that matters.❤😊
I can't believe I'm the first 😂❤ Poland here 🎉 it's my birthday today🎉 i'm 43 do i consider this film to be my birthday gift😂
Happy Birthday 🎉
Happy birthday! Enjoy your video! 😂🎉
Oh my gosh HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! 43 is a great age so far welcome to the 43 club! 🙌❤️❤️❤️
Happy Birthday!!!❤
Happy birthday 🎉
I've never heard that ballet flats have an age limit. They're a classic. Ballet flats with jeans and a Coco Chanel-inspired jacket is instant sophistication. I wear them in place of sneakers with everything.
She clarifies later that she’s referring to the Mary Jane style of ballet flats.
There's really no difference in my opinion. In the video, she's wearing ballet flats. Over the years, she's talked so many times about ballet flats being in or out of style. They're never out of style. They're like a little black dress. Some will disagree, but think of Jackie O, Audrey Hepburn, Chanel, etc. These women wore them in different decades.
not doing Capris again! 😂😂😂
Me either
Same!! That trend was way too recent & I’ve learned my lesson that they just don’t look good!
Thank God Anna mentioned this! Worst look ever, shortens legs, ugh! Just stop. Worse yet on even older ladies like me, 65.
73 and still rocking the mini's. Of course, not quite as mini as the ones I wore at 23!
I think that’s great! Why not!!
😊❤
@@letteb.4594 tu!
It's SO hard to get a "mini" skirt long enough for me now - anything below 19 inches feels wrong (I'm 5ft7)
I think jeans with large holes is a legit thing women over 40/50 should not wear! I myself am over them!
If a woman's skin is still smooth/tight and she has toned legs - even if over the age of 50 - what a blessing! Wear that mini skirt. Christie Brinkley comes to mind here!! But otherwise, wear black tights with it or wear skirts at-knee or just an inch-above knee.
I may be a bit Victorian, but I think there comes a time in a woman's life when a girlish look is inappropriate and a bit silly. A mini skirt on a woman over 40 strikes me as a little out of sync -- like putting bows in her hair. The charm of an older woman doesn't come from imitating a younger woman --- it comes from maturity, grace and knowing you don't have to let it all hang out in order to be beautiful. "Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth" says it all, I think.
@@FiddlersThree I'm not "imitating" anyone when I wear mid-thigh length shorts. Assuming anyone's motivation is always a risky business, isn't it?
Bally flats are a must. I'm over 60 and I lived in them last year. I will definitely still be wearing them this year as they are my most comfortable footwear. Kitten heels for most dressy occasions but otherwise unless sandal weather it is ballet flats or sneakers all the way.
Me too! The ballet flat revolution made my footwear game so much better ❤️❤️
I love Bally shoes, too. A great company that has been making top quality shoes for decades. I had a pair of Bally pumps for years and years -- a little pricey but well worth it for the quality.
I will keep wearing my Birkenstocks.
I am 57 and been wearing them for years! With and Without Socks, too!
I usually wear the sturdier, stiffer leather-strapped versions, vs the floppy suede straps).
I’m 79 and wear ballet flats. Don’t even get why you wouldn’t.
Yes!The French wear them and look how chic they are!
I love ballet flats and will not stop wearing them. I am 55 yikes, not sure how that happened, but yeah, mostly will be sticking to the classics.
Windbreakers or parkas over an evening dress or “fancy” clothes is one of the stupidest “trends” they could try to push. A huge no!
I’m with you with the peep toe shoes, I wont be wearing them In my life time again.
Been there done that! lol ❤️
Yes! They are so trashy looking.
Yes, TY for saying it. I so agree with the jeans & bag charms💯
Please do a video about pairing shoes with jeans!
(Btw ballerina flats are my go to shoes all summer, I wear them with jeans and shorts)
I have never been a Birkenstock girl but a couple of years ago I bought a pair, black patent leather with big gold buckle, and I love them! Get compliments every time I wear them. Also, I have a pair of red pointy toe Maryjane ballet flats that I have worn all over NYC and those seem to get compliments from young girls so I don’t know if I am too old? (I turn 60 next week but am often told I look much younger). My 21 year old daughter likes that I wear the Maryjane’s so I will continue to rock them.
LOL, the bag charms. There's a certain influencer who has to be at least in her 30s who walks around with three different Labubu dolls hanging off her bags. No thank you. I'm 42, but look at least 10 years younger, and finding clothes that look professional and in line with my role as department head while also not looking stodgy has been incredibly difficult. But I do love the look of abject shock on peoples' faces when they realize that I'm the boss.
@CarysGM to look professional, but still attractive, I pair a tight pencil skirt with a button-down shirt. A pair of pumps and gold earrings complete the look.
Linda Vright is like 70 yrs old fashionist and wears Birkenstock clock! I love how She looks
Oh, I love her! ❤
Could not agree more
In my opinion:
Birkenstocks are also a regional thing. I think LOTS of different age groups wear them in the Northeast. They are very popular in the “coastal look.” But I don’t see them as much when I go to Florida.
I think the length of the mini skirt is important. I switch to skirts as I aged - but kept the length between my finger tips and the top of my knees.
I had a dog sweater about 10 years ago. I think it’s one of those things that’s memorable - you wear it once and people remember it. . .
Ballet flats are a classic for all ages - just like a white shirt! There are some styles that tend to look more frumpy than others.
I’m a Floridian so Birkenstocks are a staple, LOL…Bag charms should only be sold in and used by Claire’s Boutique patrons…And if you have a penchant for Cat sweaters or totes - you have far larger issues than fashion.
❤ your channel Anna!
I'm dying 😂😂😂 you are so right! ❤️❤️
If you have GOOD, VEIN FREE legs...WEAR mini skirts...if NOT ... DON'T 😂 My rule for ALL fashion.☺️
😂😂😂
😂 exactly! This is why I will wear the dreaded capris! I got the unlucky genetics from my grandmother unfortunately.
If you had vein free legs...you'd be dead! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Peeptoe - yay! I have a gorgeous pair of Frye peeptoe ankle boots in a soft green suede. Thrilled to bring them back out!
Yay! I knew I wasn't the only peeptoe person out here!
So, I have never been a big Birkenstock fan…however, one of the looks you showed on that topic made me think I might try a pair. I’m in Texas where it is desperately hot in the summer. Any shoes with ventilation are a plus!
Ballet flats look cute, but I can't wear them because completely flat shoes hurt my back. I have to have at least a 1 inch heel. Chunky heels are great, and they give good support and add just a tiny bit of height.
I am 61 and refuse to where ballet flats! They look so frumpy.
I know these videos are mostly for fun, but women should wear what they love and are comfortable in, age shouldn’t be a factor.❤
I don't wear mini skirts, but I'm not giving up shorts with 5" or 7" inseam. My best features are my legs and shoulders. Why wouldn't I show them appropriately?? 🤩
I mostly wear ballet flats. They are classic and timeless. Birkenstocks remind me of 1960s hippies.
Thanks for your awesome video!!!❤❤
You are so welcome thanks for watching! ❤️❤️❤️
I was laughing out loud when you were talking about the dog and cat stuff. 😂
I thought I was the only one who dislikes bag charms. IMO, you spend good money on a beautiful bag so why make it look like a middle school backpack? To each his own.
Yes! Sooo agree with this 😃
Even as someone who, at 54, wears whatever the hell I want, I think this is a good list. I absolutely love my super baggy jeans (they're actually barrel jeans, but when worn low on the hips and longer, they lose the barrel shape and just look like a super cute baggy jeans), but they are definitely something that you do have to know how to style, and a lot of women find it very tricky.
I appreciate your videos and am really relieved to hear your angle on mini skirts. I agreee with ya all the way. Thank you
You are so welcome! Glad you agree! ❤️❤️❤️
Great video - Thanks Annareid. I agree with almost everything you said here. However, NO to ballet shoes. Mini skirts and dresses - women of all ages should wear them if they feel good in them. Even if you have some imperfections on your legs (like veins) , you still can wear mini, if you desire to do so - just wear tights, and you are good to go.
I love capris and peep toes! I don’t love ballet flats and mini skirts! But always do what makes you happy and confident!
I can pull off a miniskirt if I wear boots so not so much leg shows, even though (thank God) my legs are still pretty cute. And tights make a difference. And I'm short, and most "mini" skirts hit me mid thigh or a bit lower. I do NOT look good in some of the other lengths of skirts, and I'm sure my fellow shorties will concur.
I think those large sequins are called “paillettes” (pie-ETTS), FWIW.
I did not know that! Thank you! ❤️❤️
I LOVE my rose gold metallic Birkenstocks! I think they look fashionable with a variety of outfits. My tan suede ones (sandals and closed toe slides) stay at home. Those giant sequins and bag charms are giving Claire's ca. 2003. Bag charms look best on a grade-schooler's backpack.
My husband is an investment banker but wears wild socks to work with his suit and tie.
I'm 52 and love the look of ballet flats, but I've only found one pair that don't hurt my feet.
I found a beautiful, A line, Lands End windbreaker at Costco. It came with a vest too. I can style it nicely, but it is a bit more upscale than the typical windbreaker.
Thank you, Anna, for the update 😊
great video thanks
Capris don't HAVE to hit at the widest part of your leg. If necessary, get petite ankle pants or tall capris to hit where you want them to.
It’s always fun to hear opinions on this topic… even if we disagree on some points. I’d rather take a chance on something “bold” and find myself looking unique than to end up boring/trendy.
100% agree with you Anna. I do rock a mini skirt and boots with hosery. * I am 65 . You can do it if you're in shape and have great legs. I don't let the skirt be shorter than mid-thigh. (too skanky). I don't mind maryjanes but don't have any. We used to wear them with dress suits walking to work, then we switched to high heels in the office.
We are forty and Not dead, I think each individual she wear what empowers them and makes them feel beautiful!
I just turned 59 and will never give up my Birkenstocks or mary janes!
Great information. You present it very well. I think I'll try out for the new capris and will let you know how I do. But this video made me remember that in my family, it was taboo for "old gals" to wear white shoes. Mind you, that "old" meant 40. 😂 I'm way past that, and loving my nice, crisp white tennis and not so tennis shoes.
I almost spit my coffee when you talked about peekaboo toes! You are so funny, and you always cheer ne up! PS I’m 69 and lap up every word on your “don’t wear these “videos
Great video, luv ballet shoes, mjs and
My podiatrist says Birkenstocks are good for my foot problem. I'm still learning to style them - they can easily fall into the "frumpy" territory.
I didn't care for Birkenstocks either, but everyone kept recommending them for my foot pain. Luckily they have cuter styles, so I tried them. Love them. I even got the Birkenstock Bends tennis shoe. Walked all over Italy in them and never had foot pain.
I’m 60 and wore Birks as a teen. I looked like a duck then and I still think they are duck-like. Also, I need arch support these days.
I have always loved capris but I have also always lived at the beach. Can’t live without them.
Ballet flats hurt the tops of my feet but I love Mary Jane styles and always will!
I'm nearly 57 and still wear mini skirts in winter. Maybe because I'm petite I can still get away with it and I don't feel uncomfortable at all. I'm happy that I can still wear them, albeit not as short as I used to 15 years ago 😊
Great video! Can you please share where you got the brown cropped jacket? The one with the white trim at the bottom. Love it! You have great taste!
I’m 51 and I love Birkenstocks and have at least 5 pairs? I also have Fred flintstone feet so they work perfect for me😂
Gosh, Anna, I honestly thought you were in your low to mid 30’s! I honestly can’t believe you’re 43! 🥰❤️
I love my Birkenstock ballet flats. I don't understand why they only made them a year or two. Bring them back!! I still wear mini skirts, not the super short variety and always with tights in the winter.
I didn’t like burkis because they look ugly but after my 43 my feet became very sensitive and know I love them there my travel sandals I can walk all day with no problems…
Ugh...I've said it before and I'll say it again...I love love love a peep toe shoe! If they fit right, they aren't hurting my toes at all.
Pushing 50 here.
Windbreakers: no, they never feel like the right temperature anyway
Peep toe: no, I'm usually trying to hide my toes not show them off
Capris: never been for me at any age, they do work for many people though
Big sequins: I could see these with the right look! Don't think I actually own any
Ill-fitting jeans: I stopped chasing jeans trends years ago
Bag charms: OK I love these. I didn't realize they were trending and not just a thing that's been around
Dog/cat gear: only for around-the-house comedy value
Birks: love some of them and worn them for years
Minis: I will do them carefully, usually with tights/leggings
Ballet flats/MJs: these are a staple that I can't imagine being without
I find peep toe shoes so painful !! Capri's are great if you have long skinny legs 🙂
I love you Anna❤
I hope Grover isn’t offended by your stance on the dog sweater trend! It is very Ralph Lauren, East Coast prep. Not my style either, in spite of my beloved doggos.
He wouldn't speak to me for a little while but he's slowy coming around 😃😂❤️
@ LOL!
I like ballet flats and Maryjane’s but I don’t have any right now. I probably would not wear them only because I’m only 5’ 3 and I just feel like I need a little height in my shoe to feel a little bit taller. They look great on taller women. (My husband teases me about my issues with being a short girl!) 😂 Certain clothes just look so much better on taller women. I can play with my clothes and find things that I love and work for me. I’ve recently pulled out my scarves because I saw a great video about how to wear them. In the past I would buy them and take them home, but never wear them because I didn’t feel like I knew how to wear tie them correctly. Anyway, I recently started to give them another try and now I love them!!! I wear them often now and I’m having fun with all the new ways to style them!
Thank you for all your great fashion tips! ❤🙏❤
It’s great you’re promoting MIDI. Your entire generation (unlike mine) doesn’t have to depend on their local physicians, even ob/gyns who very likely do NOT have this information. I got the info, but much later than I would have liked.
I had to laugh when you listed dog/cat sweaters! I just cleaned out my closet & shipped all my old cat sweaters to my 12 year old niece, who will be thrilled to wear them. I am with you on the ballet flats, I have worn them all my life & someone will have to pry them from my cold, d3@d hands to get me to stop wearing them. Also with you on Birkenstocks, those you would have to unalive me to get me to wear. One more thing that people always say that women over 40 should wear that I am definitely against - long hair! It is working for you and I & tons of other 40+ women out there.
If you are older, a mini skirt looks dated. I love Mary Janes but it really depends on the pants, dress or skirt you are wearing. They can look frumpy with the wrong outfit.
I really dislike capris, and I agree about the peep toe shoe. I can remember one toe popping through eeek
IMO, Leggings and "high" heels! 😮 Please stop immediately!
yes!! I00% agree on that! ❤️❤️
Getting older is fun!
Haha I call my Birkenstocks my old lady shoes. I have several in different colors. Maybe not with my mini skirt tho.
The bag charms look thirsty/desperate. Btw, I’m over 40 and I’m wearing black, ballet flats today🥰
The bag charms truly confuse me. Why spend so much money on a beautiful bag to throw on an Amazon charm on it?! My 7 year old loves that kind of stuff…because she’s 7!
Getting older is great; until you reach 55.
I’m 53. Will I disintegrate at 55? 😂
I have leather bag charms from Pom Pom London, and they are pretty. Wouldn’t buy charms at Claire’s though.
Yes you hit some I love. It's all about attitude. Are you wearing the outfit or is it wearing you?
That's such a great question to ask ourselves! ❤️❤️❤️
1. I’ll never own a windbreaker. I hate the sound & the feel of them. I’ll take an umbrella.
2. Peep toe & uncomfortable shoes are a no go. These days I only wear square toe boots & shoes! Amazingly, they’re all so beautiful & not clunky either
3. Haven’t worn capris since grade school when I wore the matching tshirt that came with them 😰
4. The huge sequins; I have one dress that’s very thin strap & well made & I wear it only with clear heels & a very tiny bag, with pulled back hair
5. Jeans; I wish I could do a baggier jean! Even wide jeans aren’t a good look on me…hard to pull off for the curvy frame, I like them on thin gals.
6. No no no to the bag charms. Period.
7. I haven’t seen the doggy sweater yet, but I am a cat lady with lots of cat themed wearables. Vendula London has been clutch for me when I want to have a sophisticated pet purse!
8. The Birkenstock needs to be well styled if wearing out; I have a couple pairs myself, & wear them for outdoor activities near the lake or such.
9. Mini skirts! And mini dresses…I love them with a small structured bag & also structured, more wide-ish boots. Otherwise, it’s a pass for the most part.
10. The ballet flats for me need to have good toe room. As cute as they are, I’m not sacrificing comfort anymore. Personally, I go for the Maryjane style flats.
Age is just a number. .. wear what makes you feel good
Regarding mini skirts and also showing a lot of skin. I see so many women - especially as they enter their late 40's an into their 50's all of a sudden start adopting these trends. I'm with you that if it makes you feel good then do it but there is a fine line between looking hot and looking classy. It's probably an unpopular opinion but I feel that at some point these fashion tendencies do cross the 'trying too hard to look young' line (see, I have a great body and I still look good in spite of being xx years old).
Re: Mini-fact, over 50% of women in US are overweight. Out of those not fat, most are not athletic and do not have shapely legs free of varicose/spider veins. Sounds harsh, but you asked.
I'm 48 and tall with long legs, I love miniskirts but I fear I cheapen my look even if I wear a fitted 90s style hidden zipper. I know it's flattering but I am at a loss on how to keep it elegant.
I'm also 48 with long, toned legs, but I stopped wearing miniskirts in my early 20's because of what you said. I feel so much more elegant in a knee-length pencil skirt or maxi with a long slit. I just don't feel that mini's define my curves and look sophisticated.
Ballet flats are a yes for me if they are comfortable. Love the look of them. However, I wouldn't be seen dead in a pair of mary-janes! It is so unattractive in my view (no need to agree with me, of course).😊
The mini skirt issue is the shape and skin of the legs. It looks good on a pair of toned, slim, shapely legs that still have tight skin and quite even skin tone. Fact. ......Hence, I don't wear mini skirts.😂
I just brought my first Birkenstock...I loved them. My feet can't stand flip-flops(until last year they weren't an issue).
My new Birkenstocks are so comfortable and they fit perfectly with my style.
I'm 43 and I can't live without my ballet flats. My feet hurt so much, even in kitten heels.
That's so funny you say that about flip flops - I used to wear them ALL the time in summer and for some reason now they don't feel so comfy anymore I don't know what happened 😃
@@ANNAREID29Re flip flops: If possible, try to get some more expensive ones (if you haven't). I paid a ridiculous amount (over $90) for a pair and they have wonderful arch support, very soft memory foam soles, and comfortable toe straps. I can wear them all day without pain and they really helped my plantar faciatis. Just a thought.
So your opinion would be helpful here...I do not wear shorts because my legs are not "short worthy" lol that being said do you have any suggestions for an ankle pant that would be summer comfortable? My lifestyle keeps me outside alot in the summer and I am looking for something comfortable and flattering (other than linen, I need more structure that linen offers...) great video, love your channel!!!
Trendy does not equal stylish . There is not such thing or in or out. Wear whatever you what , enjoy the freedom of being you . Life is too short for not wearing something you want because you are over 40, 50, etc etc .
If I'm over 40, I definitely can and will whatever I want ...wth
I would say most women over 40 shouldn’t wear mini skirts because our legs are starting to get crapey and not in the best shape. Mini skirt for the sake of a mini skirt, is totally fine.
I thought Birkenstocks were MADE for us old ladies. I bet if you asked women (esp older ones) if you can photo them for your show they would be fine with it - I would be.
I LOVE my Birks sandals (Arizona) and have 3 pairs. Every winter, when it gets too cold to wear them, I mourn. I had bad plantar faciaitis and when I switched to them, it went away. I think it's the arch support and supportive soles. Sadly the closed toe ones are too hideous to wear IMHO. I am looking forward to April when it will begin to be warm enough again.
Great video Anna🎉 Birks are great house shoes but aren’t IMO a “fashion” shoe 😊
Bag charms are juvenile and are something a kid puts on their backpack…NEVER!
Minnesota mom of 4 kiddos aged 11 and up. I love your videos, so thank you❤! I'm 5'6, 120 lbs, small chest, size 2. I'm 36 Is that close enough to 40 that you'd give me the same tips? P.s. You're so lovely!
Bag charms are my pet peeve.Any video that has it in the header I will never watch.Beyond tacky. As you say let the beautiful bag speak for itself. If teenagers want to collect them, that's totally understandable but 40+ year old women ,it looks silly.
Yes! And makes us look frumpy. Not in to it! 😃
Dear Ms Anna,
You are hilarious! I laugh with you and I love your videos!
I agree about...wind-breakers; why not...trench coats? What do you think....
I really am grateful that you give alternatives...to those trends that...don't work :)
May I say that...those trends do not go with...age; simply do not go with...good taste ;)
Coco Chanel once said: We do not measure garments by age but...but size😉(or something of that idea); brilliant!
oh! I thought that skinny jeans were...LONNNNNNG gone! (and I was so PLEASED!!!)
Bag charms are...charming for little girls...and yes, we are not...seven (7) Tee-hee
You are right about ballet flats...it depends HOW you wear them 👍They are....adorable (and you may walk walk walk MILES and not be tired! Yeah!!!)
Thank you so much for this great video that helps me SO MUCH!🌼
helene :)
Great vid….how about women over 40 or 50 w long hair? I have long hair & would never go shorter than shoulder length(I’m 52) but I’ve heard lots of ppl think u need to chop ur hair at this age!!😂
Yyyaaasss to all of these! I love your practical approach to realistic fashion. I literally hate bag charms!
I’m also approaching 42 and the perimenopause symptoms are real. I think I’ll be checking out Midi.
They are so real!! I thought I was getting dementia. I really wish these symptoms were talked about more! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
One thing I learned from all of that is cutting out white flour, sugar, alcohol and caffeine will do wonders. But most don't want to do it. Even cut out 1, and see how you feel.
