- One problem that we always have with discus is that we start seeing the body slime start to build up. That is usually caused by external bacteria building up in the system. External bacteria are going to build up in a system, whether we want to or not. Obviously, the more water changes that we do, the more maintenance that we do, the lower we can keep that bacterial count.
Eventually, it starts to build up when people move gravel around, things around, the next thing you know, the discus start to slime up, they start to pinch their fins, the eyes start to get cloudy. When you see that happen, that is usually a sign of external problems.

I agree Gabe. Right now there is something going on in my angel fish tank. One didn’t eat for over a week and died 2 days ago. Another is showing the same symptoms. Hiding and not eating. I called my local fish store and they do nothing. I couldn’t believe my ears. I am presently treating my tank with general cure. If I do not see a improvement it will be time to something else but don’t know what. Any thoughts?

Spot on! Acriflavine based meds is widely used in Southeast Asia. There are a few acriflavine based commercial fish meds available in our market.

I had a septicemia outbreak in few of my tanks and I did Bleached them but again it's coming up what is the best medicine for this.
Hey there, you mentioned paraguard & I just received 7 discus about a week ago & they are slimming up and flashing a bit . I did a dose when I received the fish but the direction are very vague. You say use for 3 days then do a water change but the direction say keep using till problem goes away (usually a week to 2 weeks ) . Of course I know things are a little different for discus so just to confirm do the suggested amount for 3 days only (one cap full every 10 gallons) and add 1 tbs of salt per 40 gallons ? Your help is greatly appreciated

The question of 'salt' should be examined in more detail. How do you deal with fish that are particularly sensitive to salt that after a few seconds of treatment are belly-to-air?

Hi gabe , I’m in the uk I sent you a message a couple of weeks ago how informative your vids are , I bought 8 discus last month different sizes I keep them in a 300 litre tank all doing great but some of the larger ones are pairing up and getting aggressive is there anything I can do , I do have larger aquariums but have Asian arowana in them wouldn’t risk putting them with the arowana. Any feed back would really appreciated

Hi, great info, tks again. Do you have any experience using neem leaves or powder in the tank to treat external fungus, etc.? Ever heard of mixing with beef heart recipe to combat internal problems? There is alot of info on research done for fish farming and other, but little on Discus or angels, wondering on dosage, etc. tks for any reply, much appreciated.

Hey Gabe, I really admire you dude! I just have a quick question, not really relatss to the video. The water here in the Chicagolang area is very hard. Ik domestic discus can be in a whole wide or ranges, idk if they will tolerate hard water. Is it fine if I add them to my aquarium, my water parameters are very consistent and never flow around.

I came from Europe , do love watching Yours videos , here for the External Parasites we use Colombo Morenicol Lernex Pro (MLP) . Lernex Pro is effective against resistant (compared to regular treatment) skin / gill worms & internal worms.
Lernex pro contains, among other things, the active substance in resistance: Praziquantel & Nitroscanate.

Is there a treatment for dropsy, Epsom salt isn't working? What causes it ? And why there are not much symptoms untill the discus starts bloting and dies with in a day or two? How to prevent it from happening? Requesting you to make a video on this...my two discus dies within 2days.
How is sechem stress guard in terms of preventing secondary infections. Also what kind of salt do you recommend Epson salt or just rock salt . Thanks man
Seachem Paraguard is the cure. Prevention is the Acriflavine and salt.

What is the best cure for flukes? Praziquantel? Would Paraguard work on flukes too?
Just started a tank (75 gallon) which will eventually be a Discus community tank. Was hoping to order all of my fish from here based on the reviews and reputation. I had nothing living in my tank yet, just cycled and ready for the initial fish. Ordered 15 cardinal tetras, 4 rams and a pleco. The pleco had ich upon arrival so I upped my tank temp from 84 to 88 and started medication. Sadly the pleco and now 5 of the tetras have died. The whole tank has ich. Reached out to let them know and they replied the can assure me they didn't ship a fish with ich. Well where did it come from then? No inverts, nothing else in the tank.... I know it's unavoidable in the hobby but the response was not great. Pretty disappointing experience.Please note how this business replies to honest negative reviews. I own a business and wouldn't treat my worst customer close to this. I have had negative reviews of my business and still learn from them with a humble attitude. In complete disbelief how unprofessional Gabe is. The only thing wrong I did here was order from this business. This is not my first tank and I am not ignorant to the problems within the hobby. Don't order from them if you are considering it. Learned my $200 mistake.

I have discus baby 45days old . These are dying one by one . Before death the fish swime like lost some balance and also the fins become light black . And no reasons die . I have treated with potassium permanganet and praziquantel also . But the same symptoms return after 5days

Hola ,quería preguntarte a qué se debe que los discos sangren por la nariz después de un cambio de agua. Lo he visto en unas fotos y me intriga saber por qué.
