Hey there~ I have the 3 bike version of this rack and have been using it for over a year. It works great! I usually use with two bikes, but have loaded it with 3, (2 adult and 1 kids bike). I agree, I was a little nervous at first, but with more use I gained more confidence. It really does stick to your roof super strong! I keep a clean rag and a soapy water spray bottle in my car to keep the area nice and clean. Thanks for the vid!
Hey andrew. Did you ever have to emergency brake with the rack on? I'm on the verge of sending it back just because i don't know how they'd perform if i had to stop apprubtly. Thanks in advance
@@SaschaRissling I have not had to hit the brakes in an emergency situation thankfully, but if I did, I have full confidence that the rack would be completely fine. The key is to have a clean surface and these things stick crazy hard. I keep a soapy water spray bottle and a microfiber with my rack, so I always have it cleaned and suctioned properly. It really is impressive how well these stick!
Used many racks over the years including the seasucker. The best one by far in my opinion is the Thule TH9103 clip on. Once set its on and off you car in less than a minute. Folds flats and goes into your boot for security when riding too.
Big fan of the Seasucker. I had my doubts till I drove down I-5 with the Santa Ana winds howling. Everything was just fine even at highway speeds. I'd say even a "knock off" version, as long as the suction cups are quality, go for it. And when are we getting a review of that caged hot hatch?
Congratulations on passing your test Dave, that's awesome. I'm a bit of a coward when it comes to bike racks, I always take mine apart & put it in the boot
*ignore - I’ve worked out that the adapters sit in the fork ‘slots’, meaning the 15mm thru axle fits 👍* Hi Dave. Quick question if I may. I see you used the ‘boost’ adaptors, and then secured your bike using a thru axle. I thought the adapters would only be compatible with skewers as the adapters surely take up space meaning you can’t use your standard 15mm thru axle? Which thru axle did you use please?
Dave, respect the K11, ive had many modded ones over the years. Best thing you could ever do is get the 1.3 engine first with a low comp turbo set up. Get the Flywheel skimmed to next to nothing makes it rev like a bike.
@@DaveNoakes the 1.3 is more bhp out of the crate, but be quick as the bangers are snapping them up for racing. The cg engines aren’t really built for turbos but some guys have had great success converting them but using very low boost, almera injectors and if memory serves me right almera/sunny throttle body. All cheap to get.
Congratulations Dave on passing your test and getting your drivers license! Nice little Micra and colour there, looking forward for future videos when you venture out further with the car & of course the bike (choice made dependent on which one you choose). Happy & safe driving/riding mate :)
turbo's dramatically shorten the life span of engines. But if you're not planning on keeping the car long and you may want to race it turbo could be tons of fun.
I’d like a hitch but as I have a small car the wheel base of the bike would make my car wider, where I live there’s narrow lanes so it’s easier when it’s on the roof.
We throw ours in the back of our mini bus but after having some fall off a car that was in front of me on the M6 this makes me some what nervous if im honest . Congratulations on passing your test
Does it not leave marks on your roof? Not that anyone looks at your roof so. Doesn't look to have much side support for cross wind over the exe bridge.
I have a Saris Bones two bike rack for the back of the car, never let me down, but not sure I would want to use it on an expensive new car (although it has not damaged the paint so far)
The suction cups are long past patent. SeaSucker just took the idea of using them for a bike rack. They cannot patent the suckers, but they can patent the design of the platform used to mount the bike if it was original, which it is not. The suction cups have been an industry standard for window installations for years. There isnt much difference in them except the materials used. As long as RockBros used good materials and they didnt change the design of the suction cups I'd say go use the hell out of em. Oh and as far as putting a turbo on your micro? HELL YEAH BROTHER!!! DO IT. Just be prepared to buy tires more often is all I can say. Trust me on that. My FF ST cant make a set of tires last more than 24-28 thousand miles.
Thanks for the info, I've not had any troubles so far. I think I'm going to go down the supercharger route, less lag and less faff with remapping. It'll still be a shitbox and for the cost I could probably get something faster but I just really want to do it! Totally feel ya on the front tyres 😂😂
Congrats on passing your test. To be honest, I’d be very nervous. If they release by lifting an edge, what happens if you round a corner a bit too fast and the bike pulls to the side? Would that be enough pressure to lift a pad? I’m guessing you maybe need to wipe the car roof clean each time where you’re attaching the pads so it has maximum contact? Will be interested to see how you feel this works over time.
Yep that’s right, I clean the roof before attaching. I tested it out on some really windy roads and honestly I was surprised how secure it is. I even tried to pull the bike off and there’s just no way I can move it. I’m still nervous but less each time I use it.
Hey friend! My honey bought a seasucker rack and it lost suction on the freeway and he almost lost his 10k road bike! I've also heard some people love them, so I think there are probably some that are better than others! Maybe you could get an ambassadorship with a rack company to save some coin?? Awesome job mate and I cant wait to see what you get!!
Eeeek! I heard a few horror stories but wasn’t sure if it was down to user error on the instal, I’m not sure if trust this at high speed but that’s not something I have to work about with this car 🤣🤣🤣
Hi Dave. Are you still using this rack and has it lived up to your review / expectations. Seriously considering one as can't afford to drop £300+ on one. Cheers
Congrats on passing your test. The suction cup roof mounts price is just down to the quality of the suction cups used. I do use some of these for mounting monitors on car windscreens in our test vehicles they're pretty strong, price wise one probably cost as much as the whole rack. Me I'd remove the rear brace and put the bike in the car, and as for turboing it yes you probably could by fitting an engine from a Nissan Figaro., but personally I don't think it's worth it use for a couple years and then look for a small van or something.
Thanks Kevin. That’s what I have read, the suction cups seem to be pretty cheap…I was unsure at first but the more I use it the more confident I get…then it’ll fall off 🤣
Well done on passing your test Dave👍🏽 that’s some pimped Micra. I fortunately can fit bike in my car so haven’t spent much time studying racks…not this type anyhow.

My wife's 27.5 is fine so is my daughters 20" and 26". The best bit is you can fit four bikes on the roof of one car.
I wouldn't bother doing anything to the micra, its just wasting money you could put towards something nicer once you can insure it. Also, if you've just passed, you've got the 'I am a driving god' phase to get through which can often end in a ditch - best that happens in a cheap car you don't have much money into :-)
Fair point, I don’t mind putting a bit of cash in to it, it’s a car I’m going to keep for a while and just have a bit of fun with. Engine swap is a cheaper and more reliable?? option than a turbo. Like you say I need to drive it for a bit to get my insurance down then invest in a more suitable daily driver. But I think the micra is a long term keeper. It’s kinda awful but I love it.

@@DaveNoakes if you don't drive much I'd recommend trying the insurance called byMiles. You pay monthly depending on how many miles you've driven, and being a cyclist that probably will be low 👍 (it doesn't see how you drive btw, just how far)
Congrats Dave on your test well done 👏. Funny seeing your car i probably made that car i work for nissan building them or used to build the micra not now. I working put a tturbo in it prob wouldnt do anything apart from ear your fuel and cause other parts to fail quicker. Rack looks very good i faff on with proper roof rack and bike rack and it does my head in so I just put it in the car.
Enjoying your videos thanks. I never knew suction racks existed, it’s not damaging an expensive bike that worries me but killing a third party when the whole thing lets go at 70 mph. I always give vehicles with ladders, scaffolding, bikes etc a wide birth on the motorway, you just do not know the capabilities of the person who has mounted this stuff. In my opinion it’s only a matter of time before someone with little grasp of the laws of physics seriously Injures somebody with one of these. I think my birth will become a little wider now. Not a dig at you enjoying your content, yet again you have educated me.
Thanks Mark, I completely agree with you. Whilst I trust the racks I’ve seen roof top boxes fly open on the motorway…bikes fall off racks…all because of user error. I also give them a wide birth just in case. 🤣

Fair Play on passing ya driving test Dave 👍👍👍👍 Sucker pads only saw one being used very good concept but don’t know about trusting my bike on one ooooh dodgy 😂 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Wonder what happens on the motorway with warm air then cold air then rain Is it a case of just drive behind someone who has one and you’ll end up with a second bike 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

You guys get your license late in life. Ok first, no turbo, 2 replace the wheels, 3 remove that brace in the boot, you really don't need it. As long as the roof is cleam, the rack should work fine.
I was impressed until you said about peeling up the rubber cup 🤔 should be a release button at least, great intro to the contraption tho, let's see how it goes. 👍
There might be a button…but honestly it’s pretty hard to get off so I’m confident it’ll stay put. I tried to pull the bike off and it was impossible to shift it!

If there was a way to secure it with locks it would be awesome. But if a thief could simply depressurize the suction cups and take your bike as well as rack you purchased, that would be disheartening ~ BTW congrats on passing the drive test 👍🏽
Yep that’s the same with the sea sucker. They do a window lock thing but essentially all you need to do is break the window and take the bike. They are definitely not the most thief secure racks.
Of course you post this right after I order a Seasucker. lol Never thought to look for a knock off...honestly I'm so scared of using the original I doubt I would have bought this but Rock Broos does make some good stuff.
If you have to take the front wheel off anyway, would it not be easier to take out that roll cage monstrosity, fold down the back seats and put the bike in the back? Certainly a lot safer.
not really because then my bike in in the car....and if I go mountain biking I have a dirty bike in the car. just easier to put it on the roof and keeps my awesome car nice and clean 😂
That's insane. Suction cups for a retention system. Whoever trusts that to hold their bikes down on the road deserves to have them flung off and destroyed. Then again, I don't even carry my bikes on hitch racks on the outside of my SUV. I always carry them inside in the cargo area. All it takes is just one bad day or Murphy's Law for a mistake resulting in thousands of dollars of loss to occur.
Wow you’re nice, so you’re saying I deserve to have my bike fall off and destroyed? random fact for ya…more bikes have fallen off non suction racks. Oh and great job owning an suv…🤣🤷🏻♂️

Hmm, insurance might go through the roof with a turbo mod with no years of NCD
It’s not too bad as I’m 40, it’ll drop pretty quickly as long as I don’t claim.
@@DaveNoakes if you don't drive much I'd recommend trying the insurance called byMiles. You pay monthly depending on how many miles you've driven, and being a cyclist that probably will be low 👍 (it doesn't see how you drive btw, just how far)
You need a V8 in the Micra Dave - little pocket rocket 😂
I think one would fit, right?
hi friend,
How can I contact you? I am kapvoe brand cycling glasses
Can I send you some glasses for testing?
Congrats Dave on your test well done 👏. Funny seeing your car i probably made that car i work for nissan building them or used to build the micra not now. I working put a tturbo in it prob wouldnt do anything apart from ear your fuel and cause other parts to fail quicker. Rack looks very good i faff on with proper roof rack and bike rack and it does my head in so I just put it in the car.
Thanks Mark and thanks for maybe building my car 👍🏼 you’re right about the turbo, it would be fun but just not worth the cost and work tbh.
@@DaveNoakes Thanks for the response Dave pleased you didn’t take it too much as a heckle. Thoroughly enjoying your inspirational channel as a newby bike rider in later life, subscribed up and learning loads cheers Mark
Well done Dave 👍 1🚲🚙
Thank you
Yes on the turbo
1) dope Micra! We don't get those in the States....
2) raise it? Booooo!!! Buahahahaa
3) hell yes, turbo it!
4) Follow AdamC3046...one of your fellow Brits who shares tons of modded cars on his channel.. "lovely loud noises"... he cracks me up.. he's got an astonishing amount of knowledge of cars.. make n model just by looking at them.
5) would be helpful for a little update q bit further in the future and then a much more long term review as well. (Personally don't need one as I have an 01 Odyssey minivan. I just chuck them into the cargo area)
Thank you! I only want to raise the front a tiny bit, or maybe I’ll just roll the arches. I think a turbo is definitely on the cards!
Fair Play on passing ya driving test Dave 👍👍👍👍
Sucker pads only saw one being used very good concept but don’t know about trusting my bike on one ooooh dodgy 😂 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wonder what happens on the motorway with warm air then cold air then rain
Is it a case of just drive behind someone who has one and you’ll end up with a second bike 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣 thank you and that’s a genius way to acquire a new bike.
Nice one Dave. No way id pass a test these days. Having a car will change your life.. just lob the bike in the back mate. That said, who doesnt love a nice rack 🤣
Thank you. We all love a good rack 🤣
Congrats mate 🙌 freedom to drive on adventures elsewhere 😁
Thank you
Personally I just whip the front wheel off and stick it in the back....small car no bother I’ll make it fit 😆👍🏻
👍🏼👍🏼
Congratulations on passing test opens up a world of new trails. Get you’re self up north now in gods own country. 👍 Thule rack on mine for 2 bikes.
Thank you! I’m planning to head up…if I leave now I’ll be there by 2023
IT REALLY WORKS!
It does.
Love this, I like cheap good stuff😀
Me too!
Dave get a small van or a small family wagon. You can a child in them and a bike.
I will at some point, was thinking about a VW Caddy…or possibly an old Caddy pick up.
@@DaveNoakes yeah mate caddy is good. I have a long wheelbase caddy and it’s awesome. I can get the family and the bikes in as well. I go away quite a lot biking and it’s been brilliant. Love the vids mate and if you fancy riding in Switzerland hook me up.
You guys get your license late in life. Ok first, no turbo, 2 replace the wheels, 3 remove that brace in the boot, you really don't need it. As long as the roof is cleam, the rack should work fine.
Most get it at 17 here, I just didn’t need one.
Ok so
1. Maybe…maybe not
2. No I like the wheels
3. No I like the brace
👍🏼
I wouldn't not use one but I would want to give it a decent test first, or know someone who has. "It's made in China" is such a bogus argument...
So far so good, it’s actually much better than I expected!
Recent new subscriber Dave. Enjoying your new vlogs and going through your back catalogue.
I have some Rockbros products, bikepacking bags, a cheap bell and an Autumn/Winter jacket and trousers set. I think they're great value for money and like you said, what isn't made in China 🤷♂️
I can get one for $60, thinking about it.
Bargain!
100£ is cheap?? For uk maybe ...
Cheap compared to other brands with the same product
So, what you're saying is, you're a cyclist but you have never heard about rockbros before. That's weird 😅
i'm a bit afraid by these kinds of racks ^^'
I am too…I still am even after using it a bit…but I’m getting more confident 👍🏼
If there was a way to secure it with locks it would be awesome.
But if a thief could simply depressurize the suction cups and take your bike as well as rack you purchased, that would be disheartening ~
BTW congrats on passing the drive test 👍🏽
Yep that’s the same with the sea sucker. They do a window lock thing but essentially all you need to do is break the window and take the bike. They are definitely not the most thief secure racks.
Of course you post this right after I order a Seasucker. lol Never thought to look for a knock off...honestly I'm so scared of using the original I doubt I would have bought this but Rock Broos does make some good stuff.
Sorry 🤦🏻♂️ I’ve heard really good things about the sea sucker, let me know how you get on.
If you have to take the front wheel off anyway, would it not be easier to take out that roll cage monstrosity, fold down the back seats and put the bike in the back? Certainly a lot safer.
Not a roll cage..... just a rear suspension bracing system. Prevents flex so it handles better.
not really because then my bike in in the car....and if I go mountain biking I have a dirty bike in the car. just easier to put it on the roof and keeps my awesome car nice and clean 😂
Nope . Just get a better car mate 😹🤘 I wouldn’t trust one of those for shit , I like my bike inside my car nice and safe . But Iv had my license for over 20 years .... don’t put a turbo In It . Get a better car 😹
Yup ok…the plan is to get a better car but I’ve just passed so need to drive a shit box until my insurance drops 🤣 to be honest the rack is much better than I thought. I wouldn’t use it daily but pretty impressed tbh.
Very bad product. Avoid at all cost. Just piece of garbadge. Seems this guy just was payed for promotion.
