- I had the honor of playing all the drums on this record(Cosmic Liberty) and this is one of my favorite tunes off of that album. If you are into progressive odd timed dissonant then erratically not type of music that makes you feel like your on an acid trip than this album is for YOU! Check it out on spotify and bandcamp:)
My kit is a Maple Bubinga Hybrid custom Starclassic. Cordia is on the outside. That snare is a Highwood aluminum cast 14". Equilibrium china & hats of course as well as my signature fat stack.
Feels like I'm falling down a really long flight of stairs, very elegantly
:D
"Feels like I'm falling down a really long flight of stairs" while tripping my ass off
Reading this while listening made me laugh a lot. XD
killing me, considerately
What did you smoke, my friend?
Dudes, I've been watching Matt since the Berkley days. This guy has always been a beast, but the one area I have seen the most improvement is his style. Not drum style, but clothing. Finally off that college budget. lol
Noah Bird best comment i’ve read today lol cheers
😂

This sounds like an extremely technical Mario Bros final stage soundtrack
After too many toadstools
Every time I listen to anything proggy someone says " sounds like video game music"
To which I say,fair enough
@@justinrensel8518 Same here bro, they’re always saying “What game you playing?” But I tell them how video game developers and prog musicians are pretty high level intellectuals in their craft and both could definitely be nerds like me. and I love games but exposing my bias when I say prog drummers are still more cool 😂
Is that a foundry reserve ride?
This track is what goes through my brain when I can’t sleep at 3 am
Logan Lake Drums
No wonder you can’t sleep lol
Who would want to fall asleep to this
You’re the one kinda doing both a disservice and a service at the same time to yourself lol
You are so right
😂 ain’t that the truth man.
Double time

To this day! No one better
I liked you before, now I like you even more. (rhyme unintentional)
i feel like i find Bobby's comments in the least expected places
I agree 100%
Still true!
My 2 month old daughter seems to enjoy this
I have been obsessed with this album for like a year now. Overall compositional perfection aside, it is probably the most unique and unbelievable drumming record I've ever heard, front to back. A beautifully creative abuse of metric conventions. Please keep doing what you're doing and taking part in these wonderful projects!
I have only just found this I am utterly addicted. I live for music like this. Going to be on extremely high rotation.
3:42 I'm gonna dance to that in my wedding
Sound's great. Invite me.

That's Tosin right? Sounds like him...

Garrett Miller: "Where is one?!"
Why do people even watch his reactions? He provides no valuable information concering the drummer, music or technique other than farting and saying meaningless stuff. I don't get it. There are people that actually teach you something in their reactions, not him though.
El Boyo Electronico we watch him because we want to see his reactions to our favorite drummers. Not everything needs to be educated based and lessons learned. I just like his personality and no need to hate on the man. Simply just don’t watch him and of course not everyone has to like anyone’s content.
@@floralfire It's all good! It is the free world of the internet. I don't like him at all and it don't watch him, but if people enjoy his content, that's fine with me. I just needed to blow off some steam, when I was reminded of him by the comment.
@@ElBoyoElectronico check mine out, let me know what you think. Don't hold back haha
@@MDNDrums I honestly quite enjoyed your videos! You seem like a chill dude and definately provide nice input, albeit more directed towards beginners. Keep doing your thing, bro
Every time i think im getting good, Matt posts more content to let me know i still suck.
I'm not intelligent enough to listen to this
Djonga keep listening, it will sink in
Or you not know what LSD is :p
Matt's been making gains in the gym AND behind the kit
Glad I'm not the only one who noticed the swole
Lol nah dog just getting older
Mad thiccccc
In the future every dude is gonna have Chris Benoit arms
Been listening to this record while I work on CNC. 10/10
This is seriously one of the most technically impressive drum covers I have ever seen. Matt is really pushing the limits of musicianship here. One of the hardest working drummers of all time as well as one of the most gifted and tasteful. I rate this drummer 9.99999999999999999/10. Better than most of the greats and he's still improving at a steady and impressive rate.
That China sounds like it could cut a human in half. I NEED it. As always, amazing video Matt!
Best china ever. And now with the new Dual trash crashes for stacking I might need two.
ye
Get a Wuhan , more cutting, more trashy and save $200.
As a bass player who now can barely hear out of his right ear from an overzealous Igor Cavalera study I ask you use that human cutter with care.

@@ashrasmun1 I love the chords but tbh the drums are too loud. Then again, this video is all about the drums, so.
nenissaK Wrong answer. You can never have too much Matt Garstka.
What the hell was that. Damn
Ya his foot independence is great playing with the bass Line while his hands are just boolin
This ride is such a crucial cymbal for this song...
when i hear rhythms like the first break in this song i just die laughing. its wonderfully awkward and just bonkers. i love it. am i alone in the absolute hysterical laughter that comes from this kind of music?
you're not alone....It has a ridiculous amoung of intrincancy to the point of laughter
What a mess.
A mess that is very well constructed and beautiful.
All the accents and displacements are spot on.
Thank you for this Matt.
That foundry reserve ride sounds so damn good.
the dislikes are from people who didn't like Matt using the Ride as a crash. This shit was awesome Matt!!
My mind has been hungry for something like this! Thanks man! Reminds me of Tigran Hamasyan Mockroot but heavier with some Hiromi’s Sonicbloom! Killer stuff dude!
snarplaya
Fuck yeah Hiromi’s Sonicbloom is the tits
Great playing...Great sounding drums and cymbals...Unique music...That's a win win win for me 😃 ❤ 🎶 👏
I really enjoyed this video. Different style I was pleased with.
That movement through the elbows when riding on the ride... insane touch and sensitivity
davidfirechops
It’s funny you mention that cause i couldn’t help but think about Benny Greb at times just because of how similarly they move while playing
I get it’s their way to “lock in” with time and dance along to keep rhythm
In my humble opinion the Cosmic Liberty album, specially the song "Cosmic Liberty" defines a new music genre: "Fractal Prog Rock". Is it possible that Matt could video record himself playing that song? I think that is one of the best, most complex, and almost impossible drum songs ever played, also my favorite from the album. It would be really awesome to watch Matt play it!
Doing the same. Been working on the first 2 minutes for a year. So difficult. I know I cannot do a full cover, so I will work on the parts that when I did dmt, changed a view of my world. Because it is what I know I can comprehend. Most of it, slips my grasp. But that is my impatience to read it. I have a lot going on in my life. So only parts of it I can learn right now.
HAIRDRESSER : How much gel do you want in your hair??

That foundry reserve ride is just too delicious 🤣🤣🤣.. Irresistible.
Every time I hear something you've made Matt, I appreciate life again.
Band: what time signatures can you play?
Matt: Yes
This is some awesome avant garde acid prog jazz shit!
You are the absolute best. Your talent and dedication is unmatched. A treat to watch, as always. Thank you for uploading so many amazing playthroughs.
So true, bro. 👍
Damn, that last statement. That's like never getting a cavity
I’ve never had a cavity and I can confirm that there’s no correlation between the two 😢😂
this whole album is killer man. Would love to see a whole-album-play through, or even just a tour ;) Great job!
Wow, this is right up my alley! Matt is such a skilled drummer with incredible timing. I am envious so I will keep practicing!
Holy Shit! Thank you for this Matt. It took my mind to so many places in 5 minutes and every one of those was beautiful.
The feel, incredible. You just got yourself a new fan.
101 How to not make copyright infringements
1:30 heaviest EPiano breakdown ever!
He has always been a great drummer, but I feel like he's getting even better as years go by, which is crazy
I didn’t even know how badly I wanted Matt to crash that Ride until he did sheeeeeshh
What is it tho?
Brandon Weibel Meinls Foundry Reserve ride. Not sure on the size, probably in the description.
@@joedagostino7813 it's the light ride version, 22 inches I believe.
Cosmic liberty - this is the best song in the album
Great recording...playing is also flawless ;) Way to go Matt!!
This ride cymbal sounds amazing. Matt, you are THEBESTDRUMMONSTER. Thank you.
This is the musical representation of what occurs to oneself right before the moment of spaghettification occurs when reaching the event horizon of a super massive black hole.
I need more
Discovered Casimir Liberski because of matt. Atomic rabbit is a one of my favorite albums. The cosmic liberty album is super interesting, but it's harder to enjoy for me (I'm not a musician, so I can't even grasp what's going on there).
And yes, I Love this!!! Thanks again Matt!
Captivating and cerebral musicianship at its finest.
Epic Scheisse! The dismemberment of 4/4 before our bedazzled eyes... Truth in Absinthe!
This is Jazzy as all hell, well done Matt this is a terrific performance my friend. Keep on rocking dude! 🔥🤘🙌👊👍👏🎶🔥
Im'ma go yeet my money at Casimir now, thanks Matt
Masterful on so many levels
WOW.....mesmerising..is the word. Absolute...I didn't know this one till now and I'm in shock. Lol
Catchy...now it's going to be stuck in my head all day long.
Love the use of space here
I may never get over how good that ride sounds
I did eventually
Amazing Matt. Bellissimo
Music is not my cup of coffee, but drumming is tight and creative as always!
Damn. I’m 34 playing since 16 (on & off) and I’ve never heard a combination of cymbals that I loved each and every one of them. Great style, you almost seem effortless. GJ
Brilliant said it before and here it is again brilliant!
Incredible....10 seconds in! My god....Matt is one of the all time greats...on every parameter...hands down....am absolutely amazed by his playing!
Those hats! Very tasty...a bit dry imo...fun to play I imagine....come out too dry 🤗
Ok that was nuts. Fantastic
Amazing. Fantastic skills
I love jazz / fusion and I love matt... this is perfect
- What's the time signature and the subdivisions?
- YES!
Such a badass! And that snare Son!!🤘🏻
I dont even know how you count a song like this. I'll be checking out the album that is slick.
The MIX IS AMAZING.
that kit sounds really, really good.
Someone has been living that shed life.
Thumbs up for making this without editing multiple takes together.
the way he modulates the time through the ghost notes makes me implode
This is incredible.
I am nowhere near tripped out enough for this.
Matt, you're amazing Brutha
The section starting around 4:15 is an awesome groove. Nicely done!
Great song
A true pioneer of djazz
Interesting Tosin observation --
Matt records all drum videos in single takes. But all of his "off the cuff" machinations, several splices.
To this day!
I'm a simple dude. I see a Garstka video, I thumbs up.
Love Tosin's final comment at the end!!! Lmaooooooo 😂💀
Matt, u're just... madness in its human form
dang matt its always great seeing someone crush it/dominate in their field...I need to set my drums up, at least get that free therapy again.
Reminds me of Zevious, especially the meshuggahnish part halfway through. Great stuff!
Holy shit, that snare is cracking!
your my idol matt..from 🇵🇭🇵🇭Philippines
Wicked...was wondering yesterday when he would post a new vid... Never lets me down
Matt, you are a beast!
The subdivisions are crazy in this one.
HSF O_O !! Beautiful!
That ride ...sweet jeebus!
