Thank you and to be honest me was just going through channels deleting them. Before I hit that delete button me said let me watch this video. Probably save my system because where having crazy storms daily here 🌪🌪💯 Thank Yooou 👌
If the homeowner had no other devices that died, this to me indicates a weakness in that generation of the Enphase microinverters. Voltage dips (undervoltage) and surges (overvoltage) are somewhat normal on the power grid, and don't have to be from lightning - which would have fried lots of things in the house. Not clear to me if the surge protector that was installed afterward would have actually protected the equipment given a sustained overvoltage event, but good practice nonetheless. Were these M215 or M250 microinverters? M250 units have proven to be not the best as time goes on.
@@Scoobydue420 Those aren't IQ7's he removed. Take a closer look at the connector and trunk cable. These are M series inverters or maybe earlier. IQ series use much different cable and connectors.
Being on the roof exposes micros and optimizers to weather anomalies that the rest of the house might not feel, but if its a power surge, i agree. Nec code now requires surge protection
where does a person put the surge protector to prevent this? Thinking of the chain of things , isn't the solar panel itself first in the chain of power? I'm imagining a lightening strike on the panel would have to fry the first one (and microC), or a few of them , until the energy travels down the line to the protector itself ? just wondering , thanks for the informative video :)
I hope Enphase kicked that previous installer's butt for skimping on surge protection and causing expense to the company and the customer (I doubt enphase will cover the labor here).
Solar goat I have a question I just had solar installed in my roof and I noticed from the inside of my garage some of the screws that hold down the rails missed the wood beams is this a issue i need to inform my installer of
that would be a covered claim on homeowners insurance for repair
Yes, but some people have huge deductibles. Texas is a minimum of 1% of home value. $10,000 on a million dollar home.
Praise to this company for helping this family out. Thats a company I will do business with when I do my solar system
Great add! Honest with the customer at sale and confirmed at install. Love the goodness.
Wouldnt be a bad idea to install surge protection at the combiner box as well considering the investment
Yes but these guys are all hacks

Iq7 s. They just wanted an upgrade to the iq8+. This guy has more stories than readers digest…

Good man helping them.
Very sad story. Glad that worked out that enphase stepped up.
Interesting information will subscribe and watch all .

Great video. Any recommendations for surge protection. Which location recommends & size. We are in New Jersey. Thank you in advance.
Well done
Micro inverters are a bad idea tbh
Are surge protectors still needed when there are no micro-inverters (and the system has a lighting rod -- in addition to the one on the house)?

Surge protection is not a requirement for that installation. So no butt kicking is needed
Yes you’re being unreasonable and ignorant
that's choose Hoymiles micro inverter
Will surge protection work for line side tap?

Some racking and conduit mounts are direct to deck and aren't screwed into the rafter but you would need to know the racking type
@@AnActualCoconut it’s a K2 splice foot XL mount
They need to be installed a framing member. It just means they missed the rafters when lagging in from the top.
And then you ask for donations. Try a job……
