    Congrats!
Opening firearm at the MI ranch is generally reseved for buck hunting.
That said, very few shots in earshot relatively speaking this year (on a Friday this year). DNR pretends to wonder why youth recruitment to hunting declines. Duh! Perhaps a Nov 15th opener would conflict with team, club, band practice or game most years! Teen peer pressure or benching keeps many away from bonding with a family tradition.

Yeah, Dave, I completely agree. You just don’t hear as many shots on opening day as you used to. Back in the peak years for hunting in New York-like the ’70s, ’80s, and early ’90s-most hunters only spent a couple of days in the field, maybe 2 to 3 days at most.
Today, even though we have fewer hunters overall, they’re spending a lot more time out there. From what I understand, the latest estimates show that hunters now average around 10 to 15 days in the field. This makes sense with more gun hunters transitioning to crossbows, which adds even more hunting days.
With all the extended seasons, youth hunts, and other opportunities, there isn’t as much of a rush to get out on opening day. People are spreading out their time in the field, and the pressure to get it done in just one weekend isn’t the same anymore. 😢

There have been years i hunted over 25 days over the whole season …. And I agree my Dad usually hunted just opening day (and that’s when it was a Monday opener) and then Thanks Giving weekend . Working around his work schedule . So he hunted like 4-5 days a season … but somehow always got it done 🤷🏻‍♂️

We have the Saturday opener here in NY and I say most def the shots are less over the years . I feel like the sport has grown , but mostly in the archery side and shrinks in rifle and late seaon….. With a DMP (doe permit) and a light freezer . I wanted meat . I have seen buck not bothered by the doe laying on the ground. Just gotta hope the initial shot don’t push them away 😬

Hoping I don't end up with only 'Tag Soup' this year!
