    First of all, thanks for this great livestream gentlemen! And super informative, too. Your enthusiasm for the music really shows.
    I wonder what your guys thoughts would be regarding Spanish-pressed, early stereo wide-band Deccas. They're not super well known, but apparently they're really interesting for starting collectors like myself, on a budget.
    These Deccas were pressed at the Columbia SA factory in San Sebastián (northern Spain) using original English stampers (ZAL matrix codes) AND with English-sent pressing equipment. As far as I know, they were pressed by competent Spanish engineers, though on slightly noisier vinyl than the British.
    Apart from that, many say these sleeper Deccas sound astonishing. And they can be easily found in dollar bins all over Spain.
    For context, Decca UK seem to have sent both the stampers and pressing equipment to Spain following an agreement with Columbia SA, in exchange for the publishing rights to music recorded by Spanish talent of the time (the most prominent of which was Ataúlfo Argenta).

    That was fun! The enthusiasm was catching from everybody. Although I bought too many records in the last time, I now have some more on my want-list.

    Hi again. A few further thoughts: 1. Michael, I was in attendance at the performance you spoke of of Grainger: Lincolnshire Posy. That was conducted by my good friend Gary Hill at the College Band Directors National Association convention. How cool that you were part of it. The solos in the Rufford Park Poachers movement are so very interesting, and of course, much depends on if the conductor chooses Version A or Version B! I've conducted the work several times, and of course the work was made famous by the seminal Mercury recording by the Eastman Wind Ensemble and my conducting mentor Frederick Fennell. I'm crazy about Percy Grainger, and he's my main research subject. I'm presenting a session on his manuscripts (including Posy) at the Mid West Clinic in Chicago in December. 2. Netherlands Wind Ensemble: just marvelous. I have all of the recordings, LP and CD. Besides the pure enjoyment , they are great study examples for wind specialists like myself. Their Gran Partita is fantastic. 3. Blind Dog Records: I'llb3e making my third visit there on Friday,on my way down to the audio show in Costa Mesa. So wonderful that Brian's collection can be shared. As quirky a guy as Brian was, he was always kind to me, and he was so very knowledgeable. 5. I hope to see Greg and Mark in L.A. sometime when I'm on a record safari down there. Cheers!

      Haha what a small world! Yes Gary Hill, a great artist but I think that particular staging idea was maybe not his best 😂. If you saw that concert then you undoubtedly saw me trip over a stand light cable on my to go play that number! Fun times lol.

      @@poetryonplastic I agree about the Posy staging. What seemed to be a cool idea in concept didn't pan out in reality. Mostly from that concert I remember the premiere of John Mackey's Places we can no longer go. Just stunning. I've heard it live a couple of times since, and there was no better performance than that by you guys. John's friend, and is a very clever and talented young man. Fun to go record shopping with too! And now that you mention it, I DO remember your trip! How cool that we should meet up these laterin another context!

    Quick question-When you gentleman say you are going to listen to a record, do you actually just sit and listen without distractions or would you have on while you are doing something such as reading or writing? I feel I'm not anywhere nearly as busy as you guys but I truly love just listening undistracted. Most people will not discipline themselves to actually sit and listen to a classical piece, but the rewards are worth the time invested. but there is something to just having music. on in the background. Thanks for the time and once again I really enjoy your discussions even though everything I have is on cd or in computer files.

    I heard Greg and Mark utter "LUNA Music" they're in Indianapolis. I stumbled on them searching Discogs and acquired a boatload of Testamemt reissues that are OOP and on my want list. I think I got 12 or more, this was at the end of April. Im now wondering what you guys got and what I missed.

    So fun, as usual. Thanks! Question: do any of you have experience with the Decca Korean repressings?

    • @poetryonplastic
      @poetryonplastic Місяць тому +1

      are you talking about Analogphonic? A lot of them are cut by Emil Berliner or in the UK at Air studios. Some are from the tapes and some are from files.

    • @jennifermartin8628
      @jennifermartin8628 Місяць тому +1

      @@poetryonplastic no, I don't think so. Glossy covers, liner notes in English, but on back it says "Printed in Korea" and an insert of the notes are in Korean. Record is wide band Decca, but label also states "Manufactured by Sung Rum Mfg." and "Ministry of Culture and Information". They sound REALLY good, at least in the 3 samples that I have ($3 each at my local record store). Last night I listened to SXL 6287 (Falla: El Amor Brujo). Really marvelous. The genesis is a mystery to me, however.
