As a photographer I love going out when the sky is dramatic to make the sky part of the image especially living in the fenlands that are rather flat and bleak. I am so undecided as to upload to a library or not, very new to drones but been photographing wildlife, landscapes and portraits for quite some time, also have many years in design.
For stock still photography? I've uploaded a few photographs but the commission rate is so low I decided to stick to just stock video
OOOHHH Thanks very much for the tips Ian

Great to see a northern lad on UA-cam creating great content. Your drone colour grading looks amazing and these tips have me intrigued regarding stock footage. Top bloke, top content 👍🏻👏🏻🇬🇧

That's a great video 💪
thanks, glad you liked it
Thanks for the information on the new method.
I think it's important to fly a drone well and to know the camera well.
I think the composition and cinematography represent him.
Thanks for watching

Nice video thank you 👍

Thanks for the great tips Ian. Had my first videos rejected from Shutter Stock, this should help. Like # 92!!!
Don't let the rejections put you off. Hope it helps!
Excellent advice on selling drone footage! It's a fantastic way to supplement your income!! This is a fantastic opportunity, especially if you enjoy outdoors! 🤗🤗
Absolutely, especially if expectations aren't too high early on. It can be very rewarding and satisfying getting sales when you don't expect them
like it, subscribed
great info
thank you johnny
This was helpful Ian. Many thanks. I’m a professional drone cinematographer but never bothered to upload to a reseller. maybe I’ll try it. Fly safe.
Glad it was informative Ted. It's worth uploading content you already have stored and see how it goes
Did you have problems shooting around London? Ian, love the channel and is there any good sites to sell stock footages for maximising profits?
Good Video 👍🙋♂
Thanks
Thanks, man. Super-helpful! Any links to model-release forms?
I use 'Model Releaser' -its a free phone app
Hi Ian, intresting video that got me thinking about how i might use some of my footage! The shots you use in your videos often have feature old buildings like castles so do you upload these as Editorial only?
Thank you. Yes Editorial only where the building is the feature of the footage. Or in a city where you can see a logo. Pond5 normally make the decision for you what it is classes as. Shutterstock you need to specify yourself, and they reject it if you place it in the wrong category
vertical video must die!!!!! so i was glad to hear your comments on the demand for the junkiness that is VV
haha... vertical video definitely doesn't make the most of the drone!
Great advice, I was gifted the mini3 pro my by lovely wife and I'm focused on getting a stock portfolio on.
Thank you, good luck building the portfolio!
Citadel Gozo looks great ;)
One of my favourite spots. Shame it wasn’t sunset though
hello, nice video, useful tips, about filters use nd or other, shoots 4k or lower, and sell your footage in tik tok or other platform thank you
thank you, glad you found it informative
Awesome video! Do we have to get a license to be able to sell stock footage via drone?
Thank you. It's going to depend on the drone rules in the country you are in. In the UK it goes on the intention to fly. So if you are going for a flight for a commercial purpose, then yes. If you have stock footage on your hard drive from a holiday which you shot originally for recreational purposes, then retrospectively upload for stock, then its ok. But rules can change and depend on the country you are in
Good video:) If i was you i would change the text font, color and maybe transition. But otherwise really good video and inspiring;)
thanks for the encouragement and feedback
Great stuff, just a noob question, how long is considered reasonable for a stock video??
Thank you. I normally upload between 10 - 30 seconds
ahhh I miss Tossa de Mar 😢
Hi Ian, what about frame rates, does this matter and if so what do you feel is best, ie 25/30 fps, or doesn’t it really matter? - your advice will be much appreciated, many thanks
Hi Darryl, good question. I mostly upload in 30fps, especially for drone content. That said I do upload some clips in 24fps or 60fps- it depends on the type of content. On high selling shoots I may upload the same content in different frame rates, to cater for different editing preferences
@@Ian.A.Anderson excellent thanks for the reply, I will keep it in mind and possibly upload several options and see what often is the most popular then reduce multiple frame rate uploads.
youre dead right about locations. i uploaded about 20 well graded videos of forests and sunsets with waterfalls etc on pond5 a few months ago and not one sale. wasn't delusional enough to think i was going to get a sale anytime soon but uploaded them to test as nothing to lose. it's the well known locations in cities and land marks or like you say, people doing sports or activities that has a diverse use case. got a mavic 3 classic but wont risk a fine by doing city flying with that, so will use my mini 3. just find the camera in low light to be poor and i prefer the golden hour light with bigger camera sensors like on my air 2s i used to have. definitely going to try a few city videos near me and see if i get just one sale lol.
I've found that forests and waterfalls aren't the worst topics, but generally it's just sales every now and again, unless something really stands out. Good luck with your journey! Ian
Hi Ian I really like your shots and these tips as these are golden for someone wanna upload some clips, but I am also here with a bit off topic, Ian did you notice some gimbal Jello on Mini3pro? I have seen it on many reviews on yt. in some clips it seems like the small jello effect while mini3 is ascending or speeding up? did you notice anything like this? I am a bit frustrated because I wantet to buy it but this one small thing pushes me back to Mavic 2 Pro.
I've not noticed it myself, I imagine it is during windy weather and when the drone is relatively close to the ground
Yes, had jello in flights close to the ground and/or with movement in the shot on the Mini 3 before my ND filters arrived. With correct settings and filter, no jello.
OK so how long are the clips you upload, is there a particular file type or size and who do you use? Many thanks in advance.
typically between 10-30 secs for drone clips. I normally upload 29fps, though I do have some at 24fps and 60fps
What’s the n1 platform you recommend selling them?
I created a more recent stock video drone video which goes into my recommended sites for selling
So would you say that ungraded, flat footage also sells ok? It's just that it's not as visually pleasing in your stock portfolio?
Btw great vid! Some of these things I never heard before.
Thank you. I think you'll struggle generally selling flat footage, because it won't stand out on the thumbnails when people browse through. But very occasionally I've had requests from the odd buyer asking if I have a shot in flat profile
@@Ian.A.Anderson interesting! 🤔 So it's probably best to keep the original flat files in case someone asks for them...
Thank you for the reply!
The key to vertical video is going be sub 20 second reels
where do you sell/ upload your stock footage?
Pond5, shutterstock, adobe. A more recent stock video I made goes into detail
Which platforms are the best to upload some stock drone footage?
I upload directly to Pond5, Shutterstock and Adobe. Alternatively you can upload just to Blackbox who will upload to the other sites on your behalf. But they do take an extra commission
@@Ian.A.Anderson thank you
whats pomp 5
Pond5 is an agency that sells stock footage on behalf of contributors
