Dog tail wagging doesn't always mean happy. It means focused attention as a whole.
Depends on which side it wags to. I can never remember the direction but they will almost always wag more right or left. One way means excited attention and the other means they’re getting ready for all hell to break loose or maybe raise it😂.

The way Charlie leapt away at 2:47 when the shaver was over his hip, plus his belly matting and dirt level, makes me think the poor guy has arthritis and is in too much pain to be able to reach around and groom himself. So glad Vanessa was able to get him clean and mat-free again, he must be so much more comfortable now.

@@Twilyhtmist Bennett was born in the feral colony I discovered when I moved here. Highly unlikely he's purebred lol. His mom Black Cat made it to 20, his best cat friend Velvet was 22, another little feral (who's the grandmother of my girl Hazel who's 17) made it to 20. Bennett refused to retire (live inside) until he was 21. It is an exception, not the rule, that my ferals lived to be super seniors.
This reminds me of my grandma during her last years whenever she needed to deal with doctors, nurses or caregivers. Same look in her eyes as this cat 😆

i find it astonishing how even the purportedly bad cats just accept the happy hoody and the bubble for the most part.
my little monster was big huge and strong and the most accepting cat i have ever met (at least for me), but as soon
as something covered his face and ears he just lost it and went ballistic.
him being as curious as all cats and putting his head into stuff it was not supposed to go into did not help . .
I tried harness training my kitties starting at 8 weeks old and it totally immobilized them. No matter how many attempts, they'd fight it then just fall over motionless after it was on. Was disappointed because I can't take them on adventures, but cats are little weirdlings and you never know what you're going to get, so you just love them 😊
@@svinwonderlandMy cat does the same thing with the harness, I picked her up and carried her. She was delighted. Now I have an over the shoulder sling bag she absolutely adores. She rides with her tail and ears poking out over the bag.

Probably with age, he has mellowed.
To me, his expression made me think of how I get thru uncomfortable procedures...just grit my teeth and set my mind on the after-party, when all of this is just a bad memory with bragging rights.

My dearly deceased Charles Barthalomew was an angry, bitter, gray tabby, who was “affectionately” called “Devil Kitty” by every person who ever met him. I love that grumpy cat so much it was silly.

My last cat lived to be at least 22. She was the least affectionate cat I've ever had. She would let you pet her for a few minutes and then she'd want to get away.

My previous cat was allergic to affection unless it was early in the morning, or I stepped outside for more than 5 minutes. For the latter, he would follow me around for about 20 minutes afterward every time, acting as if I had been gone for months.

I had a cat once that was the meanest thing alive. Unless you were me or my dad. We could do anything we wanted to that cat. She didn't like it when I cut her nails or kissed her face but she would tolerate it because i raised her from a tiny kitten, but she loved my dad and would have let him pick her up by the tail if he wanted (not that he would obvs.) Heaven help anyone else who tried to get near her though.

@@jeandixon586He needed the bath and groom either way, and doing it that way was safer for him AND for Vanessa than letting him be wild on the table. First thing he'd do would be to bite her either during the trim or during the bath, otherwise.

I had to give my cat an emergency bath which was her first ever bath at nearly 4 yo.
It was also my first time ever giving a cat a bath.
Luckily, my cat has NEVER intentionally scratched me or bit me. I had handle and touch her anywhere as much as I want and she will stay with me. She does have a limit and will try to get away but she will never hurt me to do so.
My point is that I have even more respect for what you do, Vanessa. Bathing my cat was a horrible ordeal for both of us. Drying her was impossible.
She did forgive me the morning after like nothing had happened but she ran away from me constantly that night. :(
My cat has never bitten me in 17 years together...but he did when I started having to shave him and give him baths since he stopped grooming himself.😂 the struggle is real
I gave both of mine a bath for the first time a few weeks back. Their first spring shed was bad with dander, shedding, itching so I figured why not try it so they know the experience. They'll never bite or intentionally scratch, but the claws were out while trying to escape once they hit their limit. The churu distraction among other tips was a great help.
The overall experience was like trying to peel an oiled up potato.
Hubby & I started bath training our cats as kittens, and at this point they can swim and will tolerate either a shower or a bath. They complain and want to be held, but no intentional clawing.
The drying is a different story. No intentional harm...but the escape drive is real.
I like how the bottom just slides out. So convenient.
UPD: It's amazing to me how he's okay with shaving but not the bath and the sound that comes with it. My cat had a removal surgery and the wound is healing every slowly and the hair grows fast, so I have to shave it from time to time. My cat freaks out from the sound and the motion of it, he literally shakes when the blade touches him even though it's cold and it shouldn't be painful. It's loud, yes, but it's quick.

Same! My kitty is a Ragdoll so she’s pretty laid back but if I get out the clippers to try and shave her toe floofs (she slips on the floor a bit) she becomes VERY upset about the buzzing. 😢

My foster kitty who looks almost exactly like Charlie watched this video with complete concentration. I told him that he can relax, he doesn't need a bath or a shave.
Charles looked like an absolutely calm and reasonable cat. He stoically withstood the incomprehensible procedure and, I think, would even allow his paw pads to be shaved!
He thought he was going to space, but it turned out this adventure was aquatic.

Ive watched a couple of your cat grooming videos, and I've just been thinking of our old girl (short hair) who started getting matted. My mom kept saying wed probably go get her shaved if they got too bad, and I didnt like that idea, so Id pick apart the matts as gently as I could and even though her tail would flick she wouldnt run off while I was doing it (I like to think she knew I was helping her). It started getting real bad towards the end (Mouth tumor that grew super fast and we couldn't do anything to fix once we got her in) but Im happy I was able to give her some comfort while she was still here

I can't imagine cats like smelling like blueberries. It must interfere with their sense of smell, and it's definitely not a scent cats would want to have following them wherever they go. I see no purpose in spraying cats with perfumes. Cats don't even smell bad like dogs often do.

Charlie looks pretty friendly compared to my old cat Cujo. Big black cat she would instantly go to aggressive teeth n claws if you TOUCHED anything other then the top of her head. Meanwhile her sister SCARlet was the most laid back passive cat I've ever owned. Never scratched clawed or anything for any reason.
He hunkered down and put up with what was necessary! It felt as if he knew it was ultimately for his good even though he didn't like it much.
Adopted my cat at 3yo and the first time I took her to the vet, she scratched a tech, leapt off the counter and almost hanged herself on their equipment. I was told she would need to go under even for basic shots. She’s now 10yo and a complete softie who just goes limp in the vet’s arms. They even do her urine tests (ultrasound on belly with a needle in the bladder) without medications sometimes when I forget to give her the gabapentin. No idea why she became such a chill kitty with age. She’s still active and capable of defending herself when needed, but no longer sees the vet as a threat. Or maybe she’s just plotting her ultimate revenge…
Vanessa, you are so skilled with these animals it is hard to believe you haven't always been the best groomer ever. Hearing you acknowledge that you've learned a lot in the years of grooming just demonstrates how much humility you have as well. These pets and their owners are lucky to have you groom these beloved pets. 😊
The “sleep with one eye open” title of this video brought to me the glorious image of opening up a cat carrier at groomer and hearing the sweet, sweet tones of Enter Sandman playing. 😂

In my opinion, the happy hoodie is basically just witchcraft. It makes such a HUGE difference in my own cat. I cannot blow dry her at all without it, she turns into a raging ball of claws . With it, she meows and makes weak escape attempts, but I can actually dry her. Having the right tools completely changes the whole scenario!

Charlie was surprisingly sedate. I have a momma kitty I need to bathe and brush. I’m waiting tho until kittens are a little older. They are just a week old. I did clean her up a bit after they were all born. She was having some trouble getting it all cleaned up. She is a young girl cat that was a feral and she is only about a year old she will be spayed soon after kittens go to their new homes … which I have already found great homes for all 4.

I love your videos! Would you ever consider making a video explaining how to do very basic grooming for elderly cats at home? How to bathe them as least traumatically as possible, when to wash them at all and what products to use, what spots to wash etc. Your regular videos are already very informative and have helped me a lot when I had to wash my cat's head after a litterbox mishap (no, I don't know how she got poop onto the top of her head 😅)
