I'm not American and have never visited., but l have a guide book of the White House published during the Kennedy Presidency and it is excellent. I am surprised that there aren't proper guided tours.
I’ve visited the White House 8 times. Each visit is truly a privilege. The congressional tour which most visitors take is arranged through your local representatives office. It must be arranged in advance, and a social security number is sometimes asked for. In the 1980’s I dated someone who was a part of the then administration. It was a private tour conducted by a secret service agent. Of course that was the best tour and allowed you to visit rooms not allowed on the regular tours. That tour was so long ago but I still remember the agents name was Chip. I’ve always wanted to visit the week between Christmas and New Years for the evening Candle Light tours. The mansion glitters with all the candles and Christmas lights lit at night. The marine band is playing Christmas songs in the Cross Hall. Maybe someday.
Although John Adams and Abigail occupied the white house before it was finished building are there any history photos or were they slept or died in the white? I love that couple and George Washington

How do you get the West Wing Tour?! My husband and I are hoping to visit DC in April and want to make the trip as worth it as possible!
Or the private after hours tour that the secret service use to provide for LEO and others w/ clearance

Well, practically all the historical events staged at the White House in its two hundred year history happened in those parlors, or the East Room.
