UA-camrs love to tell you what you can't do. I tried for myself, and was stunned by the results

Hi, I'm Pete. Northern Works is all about DIY furniture and home improvement projects that help us to consume less, and create more. I've got an ever-growing list of projects, and I'm excited to learn how to build things that I want to use, and that we'd love to see around our home.
If you value great design, but want to consume less of the fast furniture, then I'd love for you to join our community here on UA-cam where we can learn together and share ideas.

What I used in this video:
Oak strip wood: www.diy.com/de...
My cordless drill: amzn.to/3Cd6dBZ
A hand saw: amzn.to/3Sjkbbh
Clamps: amzn.to/3SzoYVM
Carpenters triangle, like a carpenters square that’s actually a triangle.
Nice. My dog also always do that sneaky grab and run away with cutted wood
Thanks for the info about saws having 45 and 90 degrees with the handle. I never noticed.
Great video, love the approach to building furniture with basic tools the added bonus for me was showing everything warts and all, taking a leaf out of your book no one should ever be put off trying.
There’s nothin’ like a northern lad to show proper diy…love it. Thank you
I do love your approach to these kinds of videos. Even your trials appear relaxing the way you film. Keep up the good work!
Blimey!
Did you nearly take your eye out on the drill bit - or was it an angle / perspective thing?
Dude, it made me clutch my pearls..
Probably a perspective thing - I don’t remember any near misses on this one!
nice job, little tip, keep your wood glue indoors if your working space is essentially outdoors. Even though I've got a garage I still keep mine indoors. It makes it more viscous when you come to us it and is probably better for its storage too.
What an inspirational video. Keep going please!
I caught that! Steve Ashton's "Scrambles in Snowdonia"! I began my life on Idwal Slabs, Tryfan Bach and Llanberis Slate. Always beginning with a pint of tea at Pete's Eats! Greetings from Bavaria love the stool and will watch more now. i build with pallets.
An American guy in Llanrwst had a climbing shop and advertised a trip to Ladakh to Stok Kangri 6123m. I went there to attempt it (unsuccessfully) in 1992. We all met up at Plas Y Brenin. In spite of that an awesome time and set me off travelling the world. I now live near the Bavarian Alps for mountain biking.
Terrific video and build. I think I will cheat a little when I try and make it though.
Really enjoyed this video, very talented at both wood work and a natural presenting skills also
I'm not convinced by your suggestion of sanding boards together to get them to joint together: you could sand a hollow into the middle of both boards, and then the gap between them is twice as big as the depth of the hollow.
An alternative would be to make at least 3 pieces (call them A, B and C), and sand them in pairs like A with B, then A with C, then B with C (and then repeat.
Then, the only way for any randomly chosen pair of them to have the same shape is if all of 3 them are flat.
Brilliant...loved it!
Great project Pete. I have one of those drill sanding discs. They come in handy for all sorts.
Great build.
Thanks! Yep, glad I found it
What a result! Also loved the drill sanding hack 😁
Cheers Ash, that little thing is so good
Inspiring work.
Cracking job there m8 a need get me a tin mug. Remind me need order one. Also a think a feel a small coffe table build challenge coming?? Could be interesting?? 👍🏴🤔
Mmmm... having a workbench with a vice to keep that drill-sander at a fixed angle certainly helps.
👍👍👍 Brilliant. Thanks Pete
Watch out for the 90s and 45s on the saws, always test. They can be well off.
Nice little piece there Pete!
I applaud your work.
Great project and I love that you have used just simple tools
Great job the table turned out great
New-ish woodworker here from UK, a bit more North than you 😀 Great video ans some great tips, thank you
Love it, great work 👍
Great job 👏🏼
Can you explain how you get your dowels and drill holes to line up so nicely for the panel? I always struggle there
What a result! Out of interest, what size strip wood did you use for the legs? They look perfect, not to flimsy but not too chunky either
Thanks Callum! I used 15mm strip wood, doubled up to make each leg. I’m well pleased with how balanced they came out, visually.
cracking video as always
They these tenon saws -not sure i would call it that myself but whatever - they are same price as a standard saw at? Screw fix but you would get a more accurate cut i think. The cupping is actually very funny (sorry) and must be because it was drying out if you had left it a month would have been fine i recon
This show would be nothing without the little black helper.
Sadly, you’re right 😅
The 'Don' was wearing one of your tees. Dont mess this up.
Which Don? Monty Don? Hopefully I came through in the end 😅
