Everything I Know About the G-Shock Square GW-B5600MG Bluetooth Watch (Almost)

  • In the past couple of years Casio has released some really attractive G-Shock Squares, based on the original form factor of the first G-Shock from 1983. These newest versions feature things like Tough Solar to automatically charge the power supply and Multiband 6 to automatically set the time to "atomic time" right down to the second. The newest ones also have Bluetooth to connect the watch to Casio's G-Shock Connected App. The app can set the time for the correct "atomic time" in all parts of the world, whether you are within range of a Multband 6 transmitter or not. The app is also useful for setting everyday functions like the alarms, and other settings. With most settings, you have the option of making adjustments on the watch without the app or with the app connected. For some settings, it seems easier and faster to use the app. Also, the app will update the time on the watch in a matter of a few seconds whereas Multiband 6 might take a few minutes.
    The set-up and functions of this GW-B5600 are the same as with other variations of this model AND the same as with the various versions of the GMWB5000 watch from Casio. So, no matter which of these watches you buy, you can follow my guide in order to use your watch. As long as it's a Casio watch with Module 3459 or Module 3461, this video is relevant to that watch.
    The G-Shock Connected app is used to connect more than ten other models of G-Shock watches to smart phones and tablets, although the exact functions and features will differ depending on the watch. But if you use the app in its "Demo Mode" you can get a pretty good idea of how those other watches work. If you're interested in any other Casio watch which uses an app to connect to a smart device, I highly recommend a virtual "test drive" of that watch using that app's demo mode.
    I neglected to show how to change the alarm time settings using the watch's buttons (and not the app). But it's fairly easy, especially if you have previous experience with other Casio watches.
    Update: Later, I replaced the original watch band on this watch with a genuine Casio composite bracelet. Here's a video showing what I did... • New Composite Bracelet...

    I have a GMW B5000. I really love the worldtime funtion, (very useful for my travels.). I changed the month-date to Date-month. And the backlight duration from 2 to 4 seconds.The only function I don't care about is the bluetooth one. As I have a strong signal where I live. I actually like the fact that it does not show the energy level all the time. As it makes the display look cleaner. It will still let you know when the energy level is low. It will show "low" instead of the date in that case.

    Thank you so much for this great video! The M.DD and DD.M option is a game changer for many of us living outside the US! Less important for me, but still something I like very much are the 4 seconds backlit duration option and showing the local time when in stopwatch and timer mod.

    This is a great watch for those who can't get on with the standard G shocks. I got a GST a while back and found it too big and the dual analog digital display became a pain with the hands covering functions. While I can't get the atomic signal in Australia, this watch syncs twice day with the time servers casio use. According to online clocks' atomic time, it's always spot on to the second.

    I got this to replace my W86 after the strap on it broke for the third time. I decided to upgrade from the cheap casios to the square G-Shock line, and went with this one because a) it was really cheap in the UK, compared to other G-Shock squares b) The green is a very similar colour to the W86, which I've used for nearly 10 years now and c) it was a positive display. All of the cheaper G-Shocks in the UK are negative display, which I wasn't sure I'd like.
    I really like this watch as an upgrade from the W86. Couldn't be happier! The 'find my phone' feature never seems to work, but I think that's because of the app on the phone not being open properly.

    I was shopping around for a cheap/second hand GST watch but just couldn't get the right deal. Then I saw this video and a light bulb lit up.
    I found this watch for 118 euros new here in Spain and bought it online.
    I don't like the negative displays which are ubiquitous these days.
    The watch is on the way but I am very impressed already. Tough Solar, Multi band 6 and Bluetooth are the ideal combination.
    So thanks for the video, you did me a good turn. And I don't have to worry about scratching a metal G-Shock.

    Any of the positive display gw-b5600's are on my list, but they are 2 to 3 times the price of the negative display ones. It's so frustrating.
    Take the hint casio. Most people at best tolerate a negative display.
    I love the clear positive displays and also love the nostalgic warm tinted positive displays like on the gold / yellow.
    I'm still looking, but I'm not paying 375 for one.
    I ordered the b5600hr. With the little red accents to the band and face.
    But man oh man I am scouring for a positive.
    I'm repeating myself myself repeating.

    Besides loosing the battery level indication on the display, the Bluetooth models also lost the capability to show when was the last time they succesfully received the Multiband 6 time radio signal. Now, instead of just pressing a button, you need to go to a diagnostics mode, as you show on one of your previous videos. Not even the app will show this information. It only shows BT time synchronization.
    Update: I received the GW-B5600MG-1JF last week. Swapping the strap for a CASIO combi bracelet V2. The OEM strap is pretty nice, though.

    Just got one yesterday. Sold my GWM5610 as they almost look the same. Atomic signal never works in my area so this one with the bluetooth functionality will keep the timekeeping to the dot. I am not a fan of the white or very white “protection” and “g-shock” labels though. It’s too poppy. I liked the writing on the M5610 better. Also, the fit on the m5610 is much much better on my tiny wrists. I wish the b5600 came in the same m5610 case/lug to lug size :)

    I've got one of the negative models and I found the constant trying to connect to Bluetooth annoying so I've completely disconnected the bluetooth, you have to do this from the watch, just deleting the app isn't enough. The watch now updates once a day from atomic time so the rcvd notice stays on all day

    • @MrPleers
      @MrPleers 3 роки тому +1

      In my watch the rcvd stays on for a couple of hours and then goes away..One update a day is more than enough. As 24 hours later, the time is still exactly riight to the second.

    How is the viewing angle of this LCD display? For example when I have my hand really flat I have rather poor viewing angle on my GW-M5610-1ER and much better on my Rangeman GW-9400-1DR, but display in the Rangeman is deeper and it weights 93g compared to 52g of the "brick" so I like them both for specific occasions. This model in standard "clothing" and with positive display seems to be the follower of the trusted GW-M5610. I agree that BT should be viewed as an option not a must for those who have good MB6 signal at night stand.

    • @GoodTimekeeper
      @GoodTimekeeper  3 роки тому +2

      The watch will automatically disconnect from Bluetooth after 3, 5 or 10 minutes as set by the user through the app. So using Bluetooth really doesn’t drain the watch’s battery significantly. I will keep watching for a good deal on the GW-m5610u. It looks like it has almost all of the features of this Bluetooth square except for Bluetooth. But some folks will be really happy for things like the M.DD and DD.M option, the longer backlight duration option, the LED backlight itself, showing the local time when in stopwatch and timer mode, etc.

      I like them both. I suppose I like the GWB5600MG just a little more because I enjoy using the Bluetooth features. And if I lived in an area where Multiband 6 doesn’t work then the Bluetooth time update would be my favorite thing ever! But, in everyday use, the GWM5610U seems like it’s the same as the GWB5600. I would like to see more color options with the new “U” watches since the older version has been available in dozens of colors throughout the last several years. I suppose more colors will eventually be available. I really like the colors of the watch in this video and, when I upgraded to a composite bracelet it made the watch just perfect for me!

      I honestly don’t know. I don’t have a G-5600 to compare with my other squares. But, to me, all of my squares with positive displays look basically the same and you’d have to literally put them side by side to perceive any minor differences. • @GoodTimekeeper
      @GoodTimekeeper  2 роки тому +1

      The GW-M5610 is definitely packed with more features but, of course, you’ll pay a lot more for it. Personally, I prefer the 5610. It has 5 alarms, Tough Solar to keep the battery charged and Multiband 6 to keep the watch synchronized with Atomic Time. It’s also water resistant to 200 meters and has a tougher band than the W218 has. The W218 has three buttons while the 5610 has four, and I find the watches with four buttons are easier to operate.
      BUT, the W218 is still a good watch and it’s available at a fraction of the price of a 5610.

      On the app. The watch itself will also display 'low' text when it's going flat.

      I have only bought Casio bracelets from Watchway.co.uk and it worked out well. I haven’t tried other sellers.

    Contrary to your personal opinion majority of people prefer reverse LCD, assuming they are of good quality. depending on the light conditions they could be easier or harder to see but, it is undeniable that they look far superior.

      @Vik, Where or what are you basing what the “majority” of people prefer? LOL sounds like you rendered an opinion too.

      @@vik574 , it is also possible that if negative displays are produced in smaller quantities, they dont benefit from economies of scale, which lead to price differences. Basing popularity on price is not an accurate indicator. You need actual purchasing metrics.

    Idk why Casio hates their American market. Why are they only offering this in snakeskin here? Why is the black and green one sold out at ADs overseas? This is potentially one of the greatest watches ever made albeit at a time when watches aren’t as useful as they once were.

    Potresti mettermi il link Amazon del cinturino compatibile? Grazie mille in anticipo

    Casio is behind on technology.
    They’re just relying on a successful platform from the 80’s.
