For those confused at 1:32 when it jumps a little. After the Magic Texture, Add a colour ramp, and plug the magic texture (fac) into it. Add a Math node, and set it to 'Less than'. Plug the colour map (Color) into the math node (value). Then add in another Layer Weight node, and plug it's Facing value into the math node (Threshold), and also into left Mixshader (Fac). Looks like he just used a viewer node at the time which confused people. Thanks for the awesome video btw!
I've used this for one of my projects but I added a cloth modifier and a wind controller that changes the direction of a wind object randomly. Found this gave me that nice flickering flame I was after. I then added a keyed point lamp and constrained it's location to three verts near the top of the flame. That way my light moves around a bit Asif the wind is actually having an affect on it.
For those that are confused about creating the empty and setting the frames. Firstly, make sure that the coordinates are to the object and the empty. (You can create the empty from the "add" option on the top left corner). Afterwards, make sure you set the frame as "frame/10" on the empty, not the icosphere otherwise the icosphere would just spin upwards and not stay in place lol
for all who are wondering at 1:38: he puts the Value of the "Less Than" node into the Fac of the second "Mix Shader". The Shader value of the Mix Shader next to the Material Output needs to be put back into the Surface and Bam that worked for me :) He just changed the outputs to see the effects. Just ignore that and go on with the nodes and it should work out!
My mesh is not smooth transparent. its all flipped looking, like there is not transparency happening. and I have alpha blend on the materials...Fast...,But, wish it was slightly slower. really hard to keep up. have to pause ever few seconds. lol. I mean I know thats what most have to do but, it all makes me so anxious. wish there was a middle way.
This is a good tutorial but yes, following the nodes became difficult mainly because you just went to fast and didn't zoom in on what you were typing. I'm usually good with nodes but this one was a tricky one. Thanks though for the video!
Great! Had to pause it a million times but everyone don't get hung up too much on the randomness of the nodes around 1:30 or so. Making sure the material settings he mentions before that is way more important or else you wont get teh alpha channel breaks in the fire which is what makes this style look so good. reminds me of wind waker flames. Good luck u can do it! I was able to!
So I've tried to do this tutorial today and it's shame there's a leap in explanations at around 1:36, a bunch of modifications happen without explanations, and even at the end (when you delete a bunch of nodes) we can see the node layout has changed..!! and it's not possible to read the names through youtube quality.. too bad ! got it working until it came to "breaking the fire" more, then i was unable to make anything work :( I guess I'll use some after effects turbulent displace instead.
TNice tutorials the best tutorial I've ever watched! Super informatic and love the softow in wNice tutorialch you taught everytNice tutorialng. Thanks a lot
Super cool. Got a recommendation from the Facebook group and it was worth the time. Short, all You need to know, no bullshit, just what You want from video.
Slight Edit: I was informed that he did make the blendfile available on Gumroad so you can go there using the link in the description to download it. But even after downloading it remaking the item exactly the same way, literally copied every single value with no change whatsoever, and then perfectly mimicking the node structure it still did not look anything like what he is showing. So IDK I had to use a combo of this video and another video going over the same subject to get a decent result I can appreciate that a lot of people prefer faster tutorials and that's perfectly fine because you can manually slow down the video. That is not my issue. My issue comes near the end when you are finishing up the nodes. You leave information out and through cuts add in more nodes than what you mentions, again this is fine but the issue then becomes that your bit rate for this video recording is so low everything is ridiculously blurry and impossible to read. So I could not get the breaking up of the fire part complete simply because I couldn't see what you did. My recommendation in the future to help prevent these types of issues are. 1. Think about who your audience is, if its for beginners you need to slow down, for intermediates you can use your current speed but can't leave out information if its for advanced level people you don't even need to talk. 2. Up your recording quality this tutorial is primarily visual I could do it without hearing you speak a word so long as I can see everything you did. 3. If you don't wish to take 1 and 2 into consideration then make the blend file available to people somewhere especially for the nodes
This was a great tutorial to the point. Im always trying to skip to the right point in time where I can see the whole Node Tree set up but I appreciate the brevity of this tutorial.
Love this tutorial. If you're just starting it, honestly I'd try a much simpler sphere for the fire, the original could be decimated to like 0.2 ratio and would still look almost the same.
The black tip at the top wasn't transparent even though the transparency was turned on and working for everything else This tutorial is also a bit confusing with cuts at bad times
I had the idea to take this and add a little trick I found in the lazy fish tutorial because I thought the fire was a little too static It came out looking pretty good if I do say so myself
You did good with the fire, but you skipped so many details explanations in the Shader edit and a cut to an other you change most of what you said so when you're a beginner it really confusing :/
at 1:58, could you explain how to add a limit modifier to get the animation effect of the flame disappearing please? this is such a concise video but I cant seem to figure out this bit
😉❗‼💀☠ to my fellow noobs stuck at 0:30 with the empty. this is how we do it ☠💀‼❗😉 a way to do it more easy, is when u set the coordinates to the empty, u need to do this: ... When its there, so to the first frame of the empty and press "I" (shortcut for keyframe) [you'll find this on the left where the modifier is... the orange square with lines around it]. after its done, go to the timeline and put it on the 100th fame for example, just anywhere u know u wont be finishing. then go back to the location and press I again. at something like 600 for example. and just adjust till u feel its right. how can I create it only around an object like an aura?
You could add another mix shader at the end and mix the fire with a transparent BSDF. Then stick an object on the inside.
