  • In this video, Clay & Jessica explain just how your Toyota knows that it's raining and that you need the wiper blades to clear the windshield. Then they simulate rain on the windshield to show the wipers working.

    This is a very useful feature for blind drivers who obviously won't be able to see when it's raining and thus turn the wipers on.

    Thank you very much for this great video with such useful information. I am especially thankful for the excellent presentation of practical information. I can't tell you guys how many videos have explanations that assume that you know what you're doing already, and you guys didn't make that assumption and we are thankful.

    I drive a Prius 2020 AWD XLE. And my sensor does not work. I am currently at 48,000+ miles. What do I do?
    Update: upon pushing the sensor with a little force, I fixed that.

    This explains why they're so awful in the snow. Is there any way to make them operate as ordinary intermittent wipers instead?

    • @leemoore8154
      @leemoore8154 2 роки тому

      Just click the stalk down a second time to normal intermittent

    • @danbance5799
      @danbance5799 2 роки тому +1

      @@leemoore8154 That's not how it works. Going down a second click puts it in continuous mode. There's an easy fix though: if you don't like the rain sensing wipers, there's a plastic cover over the sensor. Remove that, unplug the wire, and then they act like normal intermittent wipers. If you ever want to return them to rain sensing mode, plug the wire back in.

      @@danbance5799 Interesting, you're right. I just checked the manual. It says that the auto setting will switch it intermittent when stopped (unless it's on the most sensitive setting). That seems like an annoying oversight. Some people say you can change the setting with an OBD reader/app.

    While cleaning the inside of the window I accidentally knocked the censer. It is now hanging by the connection wire. How do I reclip it to its base

    If you want the wipers to turn on and be very sensitive to rain on the winshield, do you have the sensitivity adjustment all the way up (widest wedge icon) or all the way down (narrowest wedge icon). Thanx.

    These come on when using keyless remote to start the car, beware…. If you have snow and/or ice on the windshield…….

    How do I disable the automatic sensor function when going through a car wash, so my wipers won’t get damaged?

    • @lakecharlestoyota
      @lakecharlestoyota  3 роки тому +4

      To disable the feature, just put the wiper stalk in the off position - on click up.

    I see it's a new feature for Toyota so what about the Camry and the Corolla vehicles and what about rear view mirror dimmers for those blinding head lights why because a lot of drivers drive to close behind and their should be a sound alert in the Toyota's that warn the driver they are too close .

    Interesting, I have the sensor on the windshield on my 2021 Toyota Highander Limited, but don't have the auto wipers. Is that just so it can be added later?

    • @lakecharlestoyota
      @lakecharlestoyota  3 роки тому +1

      As far as I can tell, the feature comes standard on a Platinum trim level Highlander. Without doing any research, I'm not sure if it's something you can add or not, David.

    Does the rain sensing wipers operate when you have the drivers door open?

    • @lakecharlestoyota
      @lakecharlestoyota  3 роки тому +1

      I don't recommend leaving your doors open in the rain.

    • @xcmskim4
      @xcmskim4 3 роки тому +2

      @@lakecharlestoyota Well that's obvious!
      I meant if you leave the wipers in the rain-sensing position and you open the driver door, do the wipers still operate? Cause on Tesla and Mercedes, if you open the driver's door with the windshield wipers in the rain-sensing position, the wipers stop so you don't get splashed.

    I have a 2017 Prius that has a rain sensor built into the windshield, but I don't have an "auto" setting on the wiper controls. What, then, is the rain sensor doing!?

    • @sandukanec
      @sandukanec 3 роки тому

      Maybe you have automatic headlights. The sensor probably is also there.

    I hate this so much. I cant even get a windshield replacement because theyre different mount points for versions with and without this useless feature. Also this is possibly the lowest priority thing to dumb down in a car. How hard is it to turn on your wipers, its right next to your hand.
