Rockwell Model T, from what I get from your review and also after checking out the shop: 1. Hear a lot about delays, someone ordering in 2017 and getting it on 2019 !! 2. A $150 razor whaaaa, I often saw a BRAND NEW unused Gillette Fatboy in box and everything sold at that and THAT ones a classic! For $150 am hearing they use "cheaper" metal on the Model T head no thanks! 3. "Hollow" feel 4. Razor feedback/chatter 5. Bigger head 6. Seemed you got cut on a lower setting 5 or below before you downed to 3? Maybe the Model T is more aggressive than a Fatboy/Slim You're fantastically lucky you get to BORROW from a friend that model T and try it for yourself, I would've loved to try certain razors myself. Your video adding in a picture of the lathering is of course amazing, great lather bowl too you see many people use a smooth bottom bowl and for soaps that just slips and slips, that knurling on the bottom makes lathering so much easier. I will pass on the Model T as well, I really love the Fatboy and was hyped to see something coming out that just mimics one, but when the Model T came out I got disappointed. I bought a Mergress and a Slim to try on my next shaves, keeping an eye on the Vikings Emperor and Parker Variant although the Vikings put me down a LOT of reviews about extreme poor quality control, while Parker did start out with some bumps along the road they corrected them, while Vikings continue to ignore.
I like the in person format. Great video and I enjoyed your thoughts on the model T. I considered buying the Model T but between the looks, length and material used on this razor I couldn’t justify the price. There are several other razors in this price range and slightly higher that easily justify the price tag but not the model T. It’s too bad Rockwell couldn’t make this razor fully stainless look like the 6s but with a dial. I have the 6s and love it. Great razor, well made and awesome value.
I prefer the “in-person” format to the “voice-over” as it feels much more engaging and organic. It does make for longer videos but most viewers are used to it by now, and I don’t mind it. Regarding the Model T, one reason it feels somewhat cheap is the quality of the audio feedback. It rattles more than it sings if that makes any sense. Also, the butterfly mechanism feels too loose when not fully clamped down. It shaves great though.
Makes perfect sense and I would agree with you. The butterfly doors are the biggest weak point of this razor. Had they managed to make the whole razor in stainless, or at the very least copper plated brass like most Gillette adjustables, then I think stuff like that would have been less of a problem
The Shaving Tulsan I can’t tell which was a bigger priority for Rockwell, the butterfly mechanism or the “all stainless” construction. Considering all the delays in the Model T’s release, it seems like you can’t do both in an economical manner. Nonetheless, I agree that they should have gone with Gillette’s approach for a better butterfly mechanism.
I definitely think this is a good razor, and if the 6S and Model T were the same price, I think the comparison would be more interesting. I just personally prefer the 6S for its sturdiness and shave feel/efficiency over the Model T.
I prefer the in person talking review. I also like the PIP loading and lather, showing how the brush performs. Have you done a review on that brush by any chance? As far as the alum, I tend to use it before the aftershave if I have a cut I want to close up faster but then I like to rinse it off with cold water after a couple of minutes. It feels, I don’t know, more refreshing that way to me. Sometimes I might leave it on but then my skin feels too dry or too tight.
That’s what I thought immediately after applying the alum was “why did I not do this before the aftershave?” 😂 I need to do a review on this and other Heritage Collection Shaving brushes. Maybe a future video?
I honestly may switch back and forth between both methods (voice over & in front of the camera). The model T was disheartening for sure. I was hoping for more
I absolutely love the 6s and I have the 6c too. On watching this, it would appear I ought to stick with those other than blow $150 on something that's possibly going to end up being the poor relation. Thanks for the timely review.
Of course brother! And honestly this just made me want a 6S even more. If this were priced at the $100 the 6S is, I would say it might be a more reasonable pick up, but my experience with the 6S and 2C just shows me that those are the better choice.
As of right now I feel that the model T is far less efficient than the Fatboy, and the Fatboy has noticeable changes in shave quality when using the adjuster, whereas the Model T does not. That’s one of the biggest dents against the Model T in my opinion. We have great adjustables that most can pick up at a low price with good build quality like the Fatboy, Slim, Super Adjustable that it makes it difficult for me to suggest the Mode T over those.
Thanks Timmy for the analytical comparison. I think I am going to stick with the vintage adjustables, which have a history behind them also 😉 The only one that's still missing from my collection is a gibbs. There was a time that I was thinking to quit hunting one and go for the Rex ambassador, but every comparison between the two that I read, has given the edge to the gibbs so I am still on the hunt.
I also need to acquire a Gibbs! And I’m right there with you. Vintage adjustables, primarily Gillette and Gibbs have a documented history on how they hold up over time and the quality of their shaves. Some might think it is unreasonable to compare a recently manufactured razor to vintage adjustables but I disagree, especially when it votes in favor of the older design.
I have the 6C and 6S and love them both. I don't think I will ever but this one, just seems too much money for what if offers. Ref in person or voice over, sry can't help really, I like it both. I do like shorter videos.
You cut yourself because this Razor changed its blade geometry from neutral to blade forward. If I am not wrong it's about 0.15mm positive. Hate that they did this. For anyone who loved how the 6S/6C shaved, this Razor is just more prone to demand a blood oath from you. The reason why the razor felt cheap is in part that the knurling was done poorly. Just try holding on to the razor with soapy fingers, the razor will slip down your fingers unless you put an uncomfortable amount of pressure to grip it. The other thing is blade centering and blade flex. My Model T even with a replacement T bar still at times do not properly load a blade correctly or balanced, needing a visual check EVERY TIME I load a blade. This is not something you expect from a$150 item. Now if it gave the same level of comfort as a 2C/6C/6S it would not have been so bad but given that the quality of shave is substandard even when compared to the 2C, the Model T is a purchase that I regret making.
I am a grab and go type in the morning. The easy top loading feature, adjustable abilities got me sold. Enjoyed the review. Great music also.
Great review. Thanks a lot.
I prefer the in person versus voiceover and I do love the jazzy background music.
That scent free face spackle looks like my kind of soap. 👍🏼
It really is fantastic! A nice dense lather every time! Thanks for letting me know your preference!! 🍻

Thanks brother!

Both versions work well
Very nice review love you're style
Thanks brother!! I like yours as well!

I like the voiceovers more 👍🏼 esp during product reviews. The Model T is just too thick for my taste

Yes, this model is nothing. You should try the Rockwell T2SS. A big difference. I have only heard very positive reviews of that! 👋😀👍
If we put aside the vintage flair factor, and focus only on efficiency and smoothness, how would you compare model T against the fatboy?

You talking on the video looks more natural. Keep it this way. 👌
I’m considering it!
The Model T is overhyped and I go with the 6S over and over again
In person talking reviews! The voiceover ones are not personal and not as interesting to me. Keep these type coming.
Maybe I will mix it up!
