How to Slip Punches like a PRO Boxer

  • Tony Jeffries shares the proper technique to slip punches in boxing. Beginners often slip too much when they are hitting the heavy bag. Slipping too low puts you in a bad position, making it hard for you to move if a punch is coming and you can't throw counter punches.

      Hi tony, what about when you’re fighting in a streetfight. These guys will miss by Miles.
      Big slips will be good because you miss them entirely. But bad because you don’t train for big slips
      Small slips will also be good because maybe you miss a punch a little bit and get less impact. Or you could get hit smack in the face because they missed.

      Tyson doesn't slip just to avoid punches. He's changing his angles to get past his opponents defense. And he's fast enough to pull it off. Marciano did the same but not as good as Tyson. It's a style that works for shorter fighters

  • @joeallenboxing
    @joeallenboxing Рік тому +12

    This depends on the style of the boxer that he uses. Big slips are very helpful for leverage. It is good to have small ones for most styles. I'm slipping big and its more helpful to me. It's more tiring though and I wouldn't suggest big slips unless one is in very great shape. Liston slipped small and it sure worked great for him.

    • @restitutororbis964
      @restitutororbis964 11 місяців тому +1

      Same I like big slips to shift my weight when I’m continuing a combination, it conserves my momentum throughout the punches I’m throwing and it’s way more effective personally. Obviously exaggerated slips like the ones he showed are going to end up in an uppercut. My slip is slightly bigger than the short one he displays. It’s more useful to short infighters.

I believe it's called the Dempsey roll. That is the part I'm struggling with. The trainer told me it was going to feel awkward, but I just want a second opinion on it.
      Also, sidenote. I recently learned about the so-called boxer's muscle (serratus anterior). I was wondering if pros like yourself ever gave it much thought and trained specifically with that muscle group in mind, or not?
