Love the look Gillian gives him. Reminds me of my wife. And Hooky stepping on him then grabbing a beer after the tune and telling Bernard to get his shit together. Classic! Priceless!
Shambolically beautiful. Hooky looks rather sophisticated here, compared to his more recent goofing around on stage with low bass and baggy clothes. EIther way new order blow the majority of stuff out the water for me.
Me, I remember this well, the lasers, barney hee hee. Did hawkwind precede them? At end of gig it started raining, I had no tent, just me and the clothes on my back, ended up sleeping(or trying to) in the marquee tent, swigging scrumpy with some other people in there. Man, I felt rough the next morning, well worth the experience though.
@@gramlowe3699 that's a perfect feeling to read a real experience of what it is like to be on NO gig. The whole band and their history are deeply in my heart, so much that Steve made me drumming!
Yep - I was there too - at the tender age of 16 and a huge JD New Order Fan - this was actually before they had released anything- I remember watchin Hawkwind too - with ginger baker no less - It was 6 pounds for a ticket that year!!!
This particular recording will always remind me of a 12-week period during which time I was living in a motel room in Los Angeles during the pandemic (and apocalyptic wildfires) whilst addicted to meth (and then going through withdrawal subsequently during the last 2 weeks of that period). Fun!
I wish I had been there! I heard this song on L.A. college radio station KXLU in 1981 and it changed my life. I didn't know about JD until '82 unfortunately. I heard Procession last week on the same station for the first time in 28 years! It was erie...
brajtnerinjo there was a lot less pressure on them and especially Bernard. They had the confidence that Ian could hold up a good show and only had to worry about playing their instruments. When he died and they had to pick up without him, Bernard had to worry about singing and playing guitar at the same time, which he found very difficult and stressful.
I was there, down the front directly under Sumner with 3 other school mates. We went to watch Hawkwind, Ginger Baker etc and came home massive fans of New Order. Highlight of that summer, coming of age
In most of early New Order gigs, If Bernard was not in mood or intoxicated with pernod, their performance is all over the place. I began to appreciate Hooky’s perseverance to cope with Bernard’s tantrum.
Damn right, pal. I've never seen Hooky in suit either, although he has worn smart trousers and shirts at several gigs. Apart from that, great clip. Love it when Bernard falls over! What a wally!
Priceless vídeo, thanks a lot for sharing. Stephen doing the same as usual: being a drum machine Hooky in a whit Gillian being blasé till the moment Barney going mad. 👏👏👏👏👏👏
@deejaybee ...man that's cool...all I know as a kid growing up on this side of the Atlantic was that you guys had something special going on over there. How exciting to see New Order at a festival like that in their early days. The word festival was lost on us Americans at that time....we didn't really have an annual rock festival until Lollapalooza. Cheers.
I remember Hawkwind being so quiet i could barely hear them. Only one stage and the likes of Gordon Giltrap and the Thompson Twins when they were a political collective rather than posing popstars, and yes £6 a ticket. tell it to the kids these days and they wouldn't believe you!
THIS is why I loved NO gigs in the 80’s. If you go to a gig expecting to hear exactly what you already have on record you are wasting your time and money. I want to hear f##kups, ad-libs, the lot and NO always gave you that and then some. 😎😎😎
I'm a big fan of New Order and really like this song on record, but unfortunately some of their early live performances like this one were pretty amateurish.
In my book this is New Order's finest ever song among many of their finest ever songs... Sadly, judging from this live footage, Barney's stage antics are just unbearable - the band try hard to keep up but he continues acting like a spoiled brat regardless, given a guitar, ruining the entire song much to the horror of everyone else on stage... Maybe this was supposed to be "punk" or "cool" because of who they already were then, but come on people - any other less famous performer acting like this and you wouldn't even "t" of "tolerate" it being "beautifully shit"... This sadly is just - shit. Embarrassingly so.
I saw them in 1987, the best Song was Sister Ray (encore), Primal Scream fronted and the singer fell off the stage. The group was pretty awful live Primal were ok... ish
Rumour has it Barney Rubble pulled himself off the floor as he flirted with the potential of being erased from existence forever by saying "I guess you guys aren’t ready for that yet. But your kids are gonna love it."
It’s so beautifully shit. I love it
Stephens working really hard on the drums
Hooky looks bored
Gillian looks depressed
And barney just being barney
Love the look Gillian gives him. Reminds me of my wife. And Hooky stepping on him then grabbing a beer after the tune and telling Bernard to get his shit together. Classic! Priceless!
Didn't notice until you mentioned,lol.
Great observation !
The more I look back at old footage of new order the more I realise how difficult Bernard could be when they were playing live .
Shambolically beautiful. Hooky looks rather sophisticated here, compared to his more recent goofing around on stage with low bass and baggy clothes. EIther way new order blow the majority of stuff out the water for me.
Barney's drunkenness is awesome...
Legendary!
Lol when Hooky steps on Barney’s guitar while he’s on the ground
I was at this Glasto gig. Barney was pissed out of his head, they were shambolic but kinda great anyway. Nice lasers?
Anyone else there in 1981?

Gillian is just thinking ,"what the fuck is going on" at 3:54 XD

it's one of their most beautiful songs .
This must be the best version of Procession
what an awesome bit of footage! thanks for sharing
Really wish I'd seen them in 81 - 82 rather than in the later years.
I'd forgotten what drew me to them but I can see it now.
Thanks for posting this.
I agree, but what surprises me is that they seemed much more professional live in Joy Division, especially Bernard

I was there in the audience. Bernard falling over is my only clear memory of the gig.
Poor Gilliam her face was like WTF??

Aww Bernie looks so little and cute here :)
An incredible performance during NO's young & early days as they began the transition from Joy Division. I didn't know Bernie had it in him.
Damn right, pal. I've never seen Hooky in suit either, although he has worn smart trousers and shirts at several gigs.

peter hook looks like one of the germans out of die hard hahahahahahahahahaha
Bernard is definetly a different person in 2019 to how he was in 1981.
...and a different person to how he was in 1985, 1993, 2001, 2005...yeah he's gone.
there is no end to this barrel
Stephen just smashing out the drums perfectly just about holding it together. Barney wtf..
stephen is a drum machine..
Best thing I've seen in ages. Brilliant!
You think Barney may have been a tad drunk ? :-D
Priceless vídeo, thanks a lot for sharing.
Stephen doing the same as usual: being a drum machine
Hooky in a whit
Gillian being blasé till the moment Barney going mad.
👏👏👏👏👏👏
Hooky in a SUIT.

Great stuff! Jolly good show.
03:09-03:30 looool 😂 high af
you can hear just when the dove drops! :-D
There is no end to this
I have seen your face
But I don't recognize all these things
You must have left behind
He's obviously on something...he was never confident on stage at that point i don't think.
@seppo6789....You were there ?? Cool...I think Barney was normally pissed out of his head at gigs...hehehe
..x..wow Den..Class that❤..x..
Bernard’s guitar performance from the floor is quite professional.
I

I wanna know what the guy that was fixing everything was thinking
I was there but can't remember it, lol. I can remember Chicken Shack though, which is, perhaps, a bit sad
Can't say I've ever seen Hooky in a suit on stage.
Kinda exemplifies the career trajectory of the band. Track still sounds like the future though.
fuck me barney tied one on big time eh!!!
but hey this is joy division/new order on the burn...
god bless em forever
Leathered!
Lol likewise, singing blue monday on a friday night :D
Well, if this was Glasto 2008, I doubt this would make BBC3 edited highlights. More's the pity.
Hooky off to a wedding after the gig?
At the mic that is...
1:06
@TheMonsterXavier: I've got a bootleg LP of it and, frankly, it's very bad .. although I do admit that this video is highly entertaining ...
Hooky looks a little bit like Ashens here...
C’est vrai que leurs prestations live au début étaient un sacré bordel 😂
so drunk :'v
3:26 wtf Bernard????????
Wish Bernie wouldn't have done so many drugs
iN VIDEO OR AUDIO? tHE AUDIO EXISTS. shit caps

that was the whole point you pampered hipster twat. that's why they were so cool, unlike yourself.

barney is hammered
@@waywarddistractions4561 He never wanted to front the band and dealt with it with drugs and alcohol.
they tried so hard but his attitudes were the type that won't subside 🤣
Why didnt they just get another singer..? I like their early stuff, but it's clear Barney cant sing
feck off you twat
He can sing, he can play guitar, but he can’t do both.
Bernard is the shit and is that the wifey?
I saw them in 1987, the best Song was Sister Ray (encore), Primal Scream fronted and the singer fell off the stage. The group was pretty awful live Primal were ok... ish
