harmonic balancer timing marks for installation f150 2003 4.2 v6

  • These marks are really not needed, I just did it because I'm working under the vehicle and couldn't see the keyway to line it up. However a new balancer with some motor oil lubrication inside and out will slip on just fine and you shouldn't have issues. This 1 piece balancer pully system makes it hard to draw down to seat fully on the crankshaft. I used a balancer install tool to get it down to where I had a could threads for the original bolt to draw in even more I used a thinner washer tho not the original. With a little light tapping with a 2lb rubber mallet and patience I finally was able to get it in enough to star ratcheting using the original factory bolt.

    Just FYI that balancer is one piece. The dampening portion of it is the ring that is on the outside. Yours needs to be replaced as the rubber is cracking. Second the index ring only can be put on in one orientation. The holes are slightly offset drilled. So long as you do not move the crank timing sprocket which is internal to the timing cover there's no need to mark or scribe anything. I can appreciate the way you showed it done as it is a failsafe means of putting it on as it was removed however it was not necessary.

      I have a question. I have a mustang with exactly the same balancer. The ring (the the thick disc with the holes on it ) is loose. It moves and rotates freely. Can the disc be welded or the whole balancer needs to be replaced?

      @@erickrodriguez6067 replace the whole thing sadly. Some balancers you can replace the balancer sleeve. Not these. Sorry and hope that helps.

      Man we replaced the armonic balancer and sensor withouth any mark and now it cranks but no start

    Okay what if my friend removed and replace the armonic balancer without any mark. And now it just cranks but no start

      prob because you have no balancer and no belt to drive anything else like the alternator
