In the early days Canada was the clear number 3 behind USA and Brazil for a long time. But the sport of MMA peaked in Canada in 2005-2015 way before it peaked globally and it hasn't really continued to grow any more in Canada as it has globally, if anything interest here has gone down. UFC 58 was even USA vs Canada, with the entire card having an American vs a Canadian, they could never do that now. The fact that Canada ever competed with countries that have over 10x their population when Canada doesn't have a particularly deep history of martial arts to begin with like America has wrestling, Russia has Sambo, Brazil has BJJ, is pretty incredible imo.
On paper, Ancient China and Ancient Greece offer the earliest mention of competition between varying combat arts. I don’t believe Brazil was able to contribute to the events at the time.
If you are considering only today’s scenario Brazil is not first. But in history is undeniable Brazil is the country of Fighting, MMA was created there, UFC was created, by a Brazilian Rorion Gracie. Brazil has the 2nd most champions and UFC fighters in history, but you need to consider UFC is based in America and in other events around the world Brazilians are more successful than Americans. I wasn't able to find an updated list on it, but as of 2019, the US had produced over 50 UFC champions, second place was Brazil at 13 champions. That is quite a massive difference between first place and second when it comes to producing champions. The stats have obviously changed since then, but it's highly doubtful any country has came close to catching up with the US. Granted, most of the UFC roster has historically been American since it started in the USA and does the majority of its shows here.
@@alandemaio3043 lol if you mean pride FC, it's not difficult to add them into the equation. USA produced 11 champions within PRIDE FC. Not the most within the promotion, but still a lot. For what it's worth, most of Pride's champions were all former UFC champions or future UFC champions. So while a few more stats could be added for each country, most of the champions in Pride were either from the UFC at one point or joined them later. I'm not arguing that other promotions didn't have better fighters during that era, because a lot of them came to the UFC and won belts right after the UFC purchased them all. It's true they were stacked with talent, but damn near all of them ended up on the UFC before and after the purchase. In other words, they are counted already. lol

The Japanese/Okinawans taught the Brazilians during and after WWII.
No actually it was in Japan
MMA Guru is single handedly carrying the MMA scene on YT
Kai Kara-France is also from NZ. NZ above UK per population 👌
Izzy is the only good fighter though, Kai is so overrated
@@mmaknowledge-wp7hpKai is in the top 5 he’s a valid pick for a really good fighter
@@kingt0295 Ok he can be considered a good fighter but Aspinall is in the top 5 and a future champ Allen is in the top 5 And We have Muhammad Mokaev who’s the best amateur fighter in the world and ranked 11 who would absolutely maul Kai let’s be honest, he’s a future champ 💯%
And that’s not mentioning 2 very tough champions in Bisping and Leon who had rough upbringings and went through a lot of adversity to get the belt. Unlike adesanya who got everything handed to him in a rich family with servants and anything he could ever want.
I havent watched yet but This Will be an all time great
Should put USA second just to rattle nerds
Great vid. Would love to see a dominoes menu items tier list next!
pulls out Italian flag: let's talk about Ireland..
lmao
So... Canada has 39 million people. Produced two UFC welterweight champions and 3 other title contenders.
South Africa has 60 million, no champions and no title contenders.
Canada currently has 16 fighters in the UFC. South Africa has... 2?
Guru seems to have a pseudo right wing man-crush on Driccus which may be coloring his opinions somewhat....
Very good list, maybe you could have included Serbia in d tier, 7 million people, has top five lhw Rakic, has Dusko Todorovic, Uros Medic, Aleksa Camur all in UFC... recently there was Darko Stosic, Stefan Sekulic, Bojan Velickovic...
Rakic was born in Austria and got his skills in Austria...
Amo nazad na traktor
I was thinking why Italy is even in this list... And then Marvin screamed in my mind ... "How the fuck is that even a questtttion?"
Ngannou fighting for France and Chimaev Sweden lol
Current champion or not, which has changed with Pantoja, Brazil should definitely be number one over Russia 🤦 Brazil's been flooding MMA with talent and complete fighters long before anybody ever knew what a Dagestani was. There's literally been more Brazilian champs than any other country beside America. The disrespect and biased is real lol
Thanks for respecting us king 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽
No bap 😈😈
We need more tier list videos like at least once every other week😂😂😂
Last year Brazil had like 5 champions. Come on.... thats as S as it gets.
he's american... that's y the bias
@@konsta245 ummm...he is English 😅
Best MMA content available. No one else has the creativity, humor, or charm of the guru. Probably the only channel where all his fans are haters that love him.
A problem with France is their most famous and feared military branch is the Foreign Legion... so not French.
Edit: A problem with China is they made protecting fake martial arts a matter of national pride
Because they are mostly not about fighting but about philosophy. China is just weird bro 😅trust me I lived there
😂 this should have not made me laugh that much
@kelewis8039 I'm happy it did, I was trying pretty hard lol
@@Halloween_Hans Lol it was a good one brother.
Should Francis be considered as France as well? Haven’t finished the video yet but now that we’re fucking around with izzy and kamaru I figure it would only be fair.
As a spaniard I ddnt expect to be in that list but maybe next year with new ones Alex Topria amd Dani Barez. Right now we have Ilia who is top 5 at fw and next title contender and Joel Alvarez whose hype was derailed by Tsarukyan over a year ago but I think he will come back to the top 15 soon. Juan Espino just retired not because of his age but for his endless injuries, I think he couldve been a top 10 HW or even higher. Alex Topuria can be top5 and title contender at BW and Dani Barez could get into the rankings in 3 or 4 fights at Fly weight.
cringe
Been waiting for this one!
I’m all for the China disrespect, but how can you forget Song Ya Dong? He’s damn good for how young he is
Guru logic…
Italy 60 million
1 UFC fighter (Vettori), literally no one else who’s Italian, makes his list.
Armenia: 3 million population
Arman Tsarukyan (Lightweight contender)
Katlyn Chookagian (#1 flyweight before losing dec to Fiorot)
Josh Parisyan (Top 30 heavyweight)
Armen Petrosyan (top 25 middleweight)
Edmen Shahbazyan (top 25 middleweight and #8 a couple years ago, still only 25 yrs old)
Gegard Moussasi (MMA Legend)
Melsik Baghdasaryan (top 50 featherweight)
Not worthy of being on the list! 🤣🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Alright chill out bro you can’t name fighters that are top 50 or 30 in a division and act like that means anything. You’re right though Armenia should be there instead of Italy because of arman and Kaitlyn but don’t add a bunch of other bums to act like Armenia is way better
@@mmaknowledge-wp7hp I wouldn’t have but guru was naming guys like Ludovit Klein who is #47 to justify his choice lmao.
Yeah idk how he forgot Armenia
Shabazyan represents America though
How is Australia not A tier? Tiny population. Incredible accomplishments
Best breeding grounds for MMA UA-camrs seems to be in the barn keep it up piggy 🐷.
Fun video. Do one every year?
Imagine living in a country that is stereotyped to have the nicest people in the world, having the whole world believe it and nobody ever having a problem with Canadians, just for Guru to come along and absolutely trash the country every chance he gets.
As a Canadian this was fucking hilarious to watch lol.
LOVE Canadians and the country, stereotype deserved, but you need to get rid of that knob Trudeau
Nice bro 😎
Shout out South Africa 🇿🇦🎉 love my country!! We have Bokang Masunyane fighting at ONE and he's a beast 😁💪
Fight gym tier list next
I laughed my ass off when he picked the italian flag and called it Irish
Soy flags
as a Canadian, I agree with your assessment
Really want to see what Iran can produce. Wrestling is historically a great way for their men to represent their country on the world stage but they need to catch up with MMA. Probably a lot of red tape around visa issues preventing many of them from accessing great training. But man I bet they could give us a few beasts.
If I am not mistaken, Beneil Dariush is kurd from Iran
The non leech mention snub is the most casual thing the Guru has ever done.
Sad to see Czech Republic on D tier. Hopefully there will be more fighters in UFC soon. MMA is actually getting really huge here, I would consider it like the second most popular sport. We have got some really talented fighters. Matěj Penáz will be a problem one day. Count my words!
How'd you think Canada feels? From having a GOAT to being on the bottom of the list ;(
Dober wants an ethnicity list next
Pretty sure Vegas won the nhl and they’re in a desert. Canada has fallen.
putting moldova ahead of France and Canada is insane, putting USA ahead of Brazil is a crime.
Portugal number 1 when Kape gets the belt 🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹
Siuuuu
We just cant mention "no chin" Fialho
Finally u were faster than Lucastracy
Francis Ngannou started MMA in France
Before i watch the vid here is my tier list:
S = USA
A = Russia, Brazil
B = UK, Australia, Mexico, Georgia
Don't know the rest
Ignacio is Chilean lmao
Finally a Tier list
You forgot to add Francis to France, he was training there before losing to stipe
Australia should be A tier for Volk and Whittaker alone
Should definately be a tier. B teir is sacrilege.
Yeah and population should be at least somewhat relevant too. Australia has fewer people than some individual states in the US
@@forwardmoving8252we have a population of 25-26 million, same as texas or florida I believe, one of those states I forgot which one lol
@@kingt0295 yeah that's more than Florida but less than Texas and way less than california.
Love this content
Love you Guru but you cant put the UK above New Zealand considering population differences, you forgot to mention KKF as well
Best chins next? Blagoy and Holloway A tier. Marvin vettori S tier
I cannot believe you didn’t make it into Rigo's most recent tier list. You got totally snubbed.
