Thanks a lot Jake! I just did it to my recently acquired REV G and now it truly sounds amazing! Before that i had always some kind of phase issue with my pedalboard, i couldn't even use my reverb pedal... It took me 10 minutes to do this mod and it really works like a charm. Thanks for posting this video, thats what internet is for ;)!
I was able to mod, my Mesa Nomad 100. Ironically, I ended up using my Two Notes Torpedo Captor 8 to tap a DI signal to my volume pedal and drive stereo fx into two other amps. I can run wet/dry/wet or stereo easily and not lose tone. I did this because, I use a a Boss NS-2 and quiet the amp at the input and fx loop with a global parametric eq. The amp sounds killer now. I also use stereo Two Notes Cab M plus boxes now.
This doesn’t seem to work on my F50 - can anyone help ! I tried it the other way , using a patch cable with one side norma and the other jack both wires go to ground and the mod works. But I now can’t plug my fx in to the loop . Help !
The situation now is that i have to have the effects mix on about 75%. If it is at a full 90% the signal mutes completely. I have a Single Rectoverb 50. But this issue beats that horrible noise any day.
I'm glad it helped man it's made a huge difference for me. That's strange you cant turn the mix all the way up. Do you have something in the loop at all times?
It’s possible you damaged the pot while soldering. Read the resistance with a multi-meter while turning the pot from min to max (or vise versa). Should be either a consistent increase or decrease in resistance with no spots of infinite.
Thinking about doing thins on my Rect-O-Verb 50 Combo. Is there any advantages to keeping it a parallel over serial? I'm not having the noise issue you were having, but my effects through the loop sound thin to me, and even with true bypass pedals there is a noticeable tone difference when I have anything plugged into the effects loop. Would converting it to serial mitigate these issues?
As I understand it, it is completely unnecessary to remove the orange wire from lug 3 and join it to the red one on lug 2. You just completely remove the pot from the circuit that way. By removing only the green wire, you remove the dry signal being fed into the mix knob; and can now use it as a return level knob by doing less work. This reportedly degrades the sound if done on a Dual Rec that's a three-channel. An unofficial mod schematic for it is given on the Boogie Board under the name "3 channel Triple Rectifier Loop Mod.(Parallel to Series)". Note that I haven't tried it yet, so let me know if you have another view of it.
Thanks for posting! I have a 2000 DR 3ch that I use sometimes with a G-Major and have always wished I could convert the FX loop easily. The FX lose so much clarity so can’t wait to test this out! Thanks!
@Jake Lanier, after the mod on this 2 channel recto, was the fx loop footswitch still switching the FX loop on and off? Thanks for this awesome vid showing how simple and reversible this mod can be. I have a 2 ch triple rec (96-97 ish) an am trying to get my ISP decimator G-String (noisegate) to work correctly utilizing a series/serial fx loop which is what that specific pedal is designed for. I got a different set of instructions from Mesa Boogie which involves installing a new switchcraft Return Jack and taking the red wire to the new jack and jumping another wire from the send jack. TIA- \m/
Thank you! I have a 2007 3 channel Dual Rec I am going to have modded too. Strymon Flint should play nicely (especially the tremolo side). Quick questions for you: how high do you set your send level (generally)? How do you like the sound when the delay or other effects are bypassed?
Thomas Mullin I keep my mix and send at 100% and control the fx mix from my axe fx. That seems to give me the purist tone from my amp. I think that's a little more crucial when it's a parallel loop. I kept running into phase issues with certain fx if I had the send or mix all the way up. I hope this helps man its been a game changer for me. I play metal mostly but I also play a lot of ambient stuff and it wouldn't take much to get that helicopter sound going.
@@jakeguitarable Hey Ive got a Traynor YCV 80 with two pots one for return..do you thin k it is a similar mod? Do we do both pots or the send or return?
What does the mix knob after this mod? Nothing? Or does it work like a Seriell effects loop level? Looks quiet easy..thinking about doing this to my Rev G...
my problem is with parallel I can't really hear the effects. I use a headrush pedal board and so to hear some of the effects I put them in front of the loop so coming in the front. Sounds great but when I use my over drive then my am cuts in and out. Just when on overdrive. Will this allow me to use the effects and have them well heard over the overdrive channel and not cut out? Everyone on FB forum is telling me this is what I need to do. So ia m asking you since you did it. Thanks. I have a Rectoverb 50 combo.
It's not a digital effects issue necessarily but more so time based effects like reverb or delay. What happens with parallel loops is at even 100 mix you still have both dry and wet signals and it creates phase issues. You dont have the same problem with series since you aren't splitting your signal. Hopefully that makes some sense thanks for watching
You'll have to have something in the loop at all times to pass the signal. So bare minimum you'd have to have at least a patch cable of you just wanted to run the Amp as is. That might potentially bother some folks. I will say I was working on it another time and forgot about that and couldn't get any sound lol so I burnt up some time
I had same issue with trying to use a tc reverb unit years ago and just decided not to use it. I now have a headrush and was wondering if I could use the fx return only for a power amp without this mod? i'm going to try today. i'm not quite there in being happy to use headrush only di to desk.
I have not 1 but 2 green cables running to the first lug, one to the send like you and the other to the gnd/ground on the board. Can I still apply the mod (rev G) and just leave those together only not connected to the mix pot?
I think so. I saw another video of this mod where the guy de-solders all 3 wires from the pot and just solders the red and orange together and tapes them up. ua-cam.com/video/9kMamfOLRmE/v-deo.html
I would like to do this to my Road King 1, but I don’t know if it would work with individual channel strips having their own Loop 2 FX level. Would this mod bypass all of those?
i have a simular problem, but the delays be ok, but when i use harmonizers the signal dry phase with the dry of the pedal and the 5a signal creating a reverb and reduces the volume... very bad tone... i will try this... do you know about this specific trouble (harmonizer paralel)? thqnk you man, grate video
Is it basically this simple in all amps to do this? I mean obviously layout and such. But I love the fuck out of the sound of a Framus Dragon and it has all the features I want... Except a damn parrellel loop which I don't need anyway because I have an es8. But anyway if all I need to do is soldier two wires in different places I'll totally do it
I'm no amp tech so I'm not going that it will always be this straight forward. I would imagine that it is but no way of knowing until to dive in. If you love it that much could consider fx units that have a kill fry option which will do the same thing.
@@francismcfadden3305 I know g system and g major have a kill dry. I'm sure there are others out there. If your trying to use an assortment of pedals the mod is.the way to go

Being that harmonizer is a pitch based effect it would sound better in front of the amp. If you are using a multi effect unit try 4 cable method
