  • This video explains how to put the glaze-base on to tiles; the Majolica Method is all ways decorated on to bisque, fired clay. The tiles are sounded, cleaned, covered with the opaque glaze-base by pouring, the backs and sides have to be cleaned of the unwanted glaze; then the base on the tiles is dusted with a very soft brush and checked to see nothing is damaged, if it is it has to be repaired. Remember the less you touch the glaze with your hands the better, your hands are greasy and grease is incompatible with the glaze and can damage it. The cleaning is a long, boring job that has to be well done, the high standard of the preparation can be seen when the work is fired and finished.

Very concise direction,...thank you! Questions: Are you using commercial tiles? The grid texture on the back makes me think they were purchased. My other thought was about the necessity of using "lung" protection (respirator) for the glaze dust.
