    Crab fart ! 😂😂 brilliant ! Alreet Darren .. what a great little session , you did bloody well getting that nice codling at this time of year out the river mind , even in the winter there ain’t many sized codling in the tyne nowadays , not like 20 -30 year back when we’d pull 2 and 3 pounders out no probs during most sessions at hebburn, international paints or across the river at walker .. goodstuff mate 👍🏻

    Hi Darren, just popped on to subscribe and like, but caught this vid, lol.. back in the day, I used to deliver milk around st peters basin!! Not sure I'd of eaten anything out of there back then!
    You make an excellent point re meeting genuine folk, some of the folk I've met since I started this angling journey are purely awesome, genuine folk... We all in this together...

    Nice one mate, is that where you ended up after I saw you in Lennys?
    Me and Chris ended up doing 14 hours at Whitehaven 😂 We decided to wait for the darkness on the high tide and we ended up getting the rays we were after and some doggies.

    Nice video mate, well done with the fish. Can anyone explain why you call an undersized codling a Tommy? Ive often heard it called this but never knew the reason behind it!

    • @northeastangling
      @northeastangling  6 місяців тому +1

      Hi, thanks for watching. Really appreciate it 🙏.
      It's a term used to describe a codling. A codling being anything under 6 pounds. After that it is classed as a cod, or mature fish. So I guess it must mean small or something. It's a term passed down through the generations of fisherman I guess. Good question though 😁. Tight lines my Chum.

    • @CodWalloper
      @CodWalloper 6 місяців тому

      @northeastangling I've fished for +40yrs also worked on trawlers in my youth, but it's only recently I've heard the term used for an undersized codling. I do know there is a fish called the Tom cod and wonder if there's a connection?

    • @northeastangling
      @northeastangling  6 місяців тому

      @CodWalloper more than possible! It's a phrase used a lot up here .

    Great video! I do like your content and well said about fishing for the pleasure of it AND the anglers that take things too seriously, thankfully I don’t bump into that many these days but they do still exist. Your comment about dog walkers also made me smile. We do have to share the same space and I have seen / heard a bloke, probably in his late 60s berate a woman for letting her dog put its nose in his worm (not a euphemism 😅) Whilst I agree people should mind what their pets are doing, probably better for the blood pressure to laugh it off cos it’s nice to be nice. Anyway, looking forward to your next vids and making my way back up to the NE to try a venue I haven’t fished before. PS, Lenny’s bait is spot on… just saying 😁👍

      Thank you so much for watching. I know it was a long drawn-out out one lol. Yeah, it's nice to be nice . I was brought up to be open and friendly and I am proud of it . I am a softy for dogs, it's the owners who are sometimes a pain. Lenny's bait is always top notch 👌 tight lines .

    Was great there in early mid 1980s, used fish there before they built St Peters Basin as lived up the street next to Bottom Club. No huge fish but big bags of codlings, coalies flounders eels.
    Still a fun place for a chuck now as you say well done another good video.

    • @northeastangling
      @northeastangling  6 місяців тому +1

      Your spot on David. I used to fish pottery bank, when it was just grass and that old silver tubular fence. Great bags of fish and the coalies were cracking. It fished better when the river was really dirty! Always used to catch the odd durex too 🤣🤣

    • @davidmilne9911
      @davidmilne9911 6 місяців тому

      Your video got me thinking back about old times, yeah was filthy and smelly in mid 70s to mid 80s when l started, then cleaned up and fishing died a bit.
      Or was that just coincidence.
      As for marks Rubber factory, Whitehills Point and Howden Staiths, were my go when l started out fishing in river.

    • @northeastangling
      @northeastangling  6 місяців тому +1

      @davidmilne9911 ah the memorise my chum. Loved the rubber factory. I remember some good fish taken. The ferry landing too when you could sneak on. Fun fact, I came second in the whiteley all nighters with a good bag of codling from Willington Quay. I was beaten by a guy who we later found to be cheating out of bounds up the coast.
      I won a century slammer and a slosh 20. Good Times.

    I could of swore I went down there about 3 years ago and there were no fishing signs? Mind it looked like they were put up by the residents. Nobody can stop anyone fishing there can they!

    • @northeastangling
      @northeastangling  Місяць тому +1

      Probably the residents Robert. It's a public walkway, part of the coastal bike path, too. Residents probably got tired of people's mess or late night fishing.
