Thanks so much for watching! I hope you found this video on children's book signing events helpful. Be sure to find me over on Instagram & TikTok, so we can connect there as well!
Great timing! I recently approached my local "cat cafe" and asked if they would host an author event for me. The book is my sixth ukulele-themed picture book. This one is about a cat (my cat, a rescue cat) who plays the ukulele and brings a forest to life with color. They loved the book and my idea for an event. I've been promoting the event that will be at the end of this month. I will read the story in a fun, interactive way for those who come, answer questions, and play a song from the book. I will sell and sign books. I'll also have themed coloring sheets and bookmarks they can take home. I'll also be selling my greeting cards featuring illustrations from the book I created and accepting a donation for those that will go to the cat lounge there. I will also donate a portion of my sales that day to the cafe/cat rescues involved there. I'm excited! I think it's just such a unique place to hold an event. :D I have done events at the library before, and workshops at a music studio. Cat cafe is definitely a first.
I love this, Susan! This event is going to be so much fun! And I love how you are planning to donate toward the cat cafe's rescue mission! Perhaps you can also find some additional ideas in my video specifically about vendor events. Have so much fun, Susan!
Thanks for this timely video. I just scheduled my first book signing event with a small tea house. The proprietor will host a mother/daughter tea Party where I will read and talk. I'm brainstorming what I might do and talk about. A fellow author suggested a discussion guide to send home with the moms.
Thank you for this post. My wife is the author and a little shy of getting out there. I am the opposite and well be an author in the future. I want to help her be a success . Would it work if I took the lead in talking to librarians and stores etc or is it better if she is? (She was a teacher so she is not a wall flower. ). Aloha
It is so wonderful to see how supportive you are! Being a teacher is such a plus when it comes to our credibility as children's authors. So even though it may be hard for your wife (at first), I would encourage her to approach the librarians and stores herself. Something that might help ease her nervousness would be to prepare a quick, one line summary she can share with them. Hopefully my "elevator pitch" video will be helpful here. I so hope this helps!
