You DO NOT need to remove the bottom plate - in fact Ford stamps right on it “Do not remove for oil change”. Simply remove the plastic cover on the back end of that plate to access the drain bolt it’s right under there. I’ve never removed the plate ever.
Well I did to show a better video instead of looking thru the small hole. It doesnt hurt anything to take the plastic plate off and it will give you a better view to inspect your engine for preventive maintenance.
I was going to since I couldn't find the filter (thanks studio...and yes, it was the studio on this, not the engineers). Man the studio guys need to be fired, but they hold way too much power.
On my 2001 Expedition (bought new) videos like yours saved me more than $6,000 in one year. My trans went haywire, estimates began at $3,500, but a UA-camr like you said to change one fuse, it fixed the problem! Another showed me how to change plugs injectors, coils, $3K savings there. Keep up the good work.
Don't take the apron all the way off and don't take the tin off at all. The filter is replaced blind so don't even try to get eyes on it. Remove rear fabric baffle first and drain oil. Loosen front flexible baffle where Ford has supplied twist lock fittings only. Reach in to the hole and toward the back of the vehicle and feel for the filter. There is a plastic pan built in to catch the drip from the filter so empty the filter while it is very close to where it belongs, then bring it out. Oil will drip from the center square hole while you do this so move your drip pan under that square hole before you loosen filter. This gets easier with every oil change. I raise the front of my vehicle much the same as this car flipper and that makes all the oil from the filter removal flow toward the center square hole, otherwise you may end up with oil spilling on your chest .
Good video! I like the fact you really point out exactly where things were under the vehicle. I was thinking that you don't look too small of a guy. So, you were able to lift the vehicle on two small bricks and have enough room to work? I also have a 2007 expedition, and I need to put it on a ramp to change the oil. The 2017 is "new" to me so when I change the oil it will be for the first time.
Yes, I was able to have enough room to work to get the engine oil changed no problem on two bricks. Thanks for watching! Stay tuned for more DIY Auto repair videos here on the channel!
I do appreciate the video it was helpful as you did a great job describing and showing the process, however you don't have to remove the metal skid plate. it might help if you need to put it on higher ramps but it does pour out and miss the skid plate.
Go ahead and don't remove the skid plate, I removed it and found out that if you don't then it will make a mess on the skid plate. We all do what is best for us and I found that it's better to do this. Not only am I there for an oil change but to inspect my vehicle for repairs that are needed. How can you see this thru the plate? Thanks for watching
My 17 expedition just rolled over 100K i changed my own oil and its only 45 sometimes 30 for full synthetic oil + filter now i got a water pump to change lol
Yes, it does. I change mine on a rack, and I can drain the oil and change the filter without removing the plate. I just watch these as a quick refresher before every oil change. 😆 Good vid. I want one of those robogrips!
Nice!!! What does your suspension look like? Any wear? How about your oil and transmission pans? Any leaks? Remember paying for an oil change is great but it is also a great time to catch minor problems before they become bigger problems. Also, I get my pricing from local dealerships and the average pricing online. Yes, you can go to Jiffy Lube and all those chains, but I always prefer to lay eyes on my vehicle.
Was thinking of installing a Fumoto valve. Wonder if it would allow changing oil without removing the plates. Can you see the oil plug thru that access hole on the passenger side?
Yes there will be some oil spillage but not much, just wipe up what drips out. No worries, great job on working on your own vehicle!!!! Thanks for watching!
I have two toddlers that fall asleep when driving sometimes. We get home, and there is NO WAY to turn off the lights when the doors open, which could wake them. Please tell me there’s a way to do this that I’m missing?!?!
You should have a knob (dimmer switch) on the left side of your steering wheel, it is small in stature but should be turned counter clockwise until you hear the click and that will turn the interior lights off for you.
@@Sellthoseflippingcars Unfortunately the knob does not shut off interior lights when doors are open. Unless I’m doing wrong. Yes, MOST EVERY OTHER VEHICLE has that option. That’s why I’m so surprised in there not being an option on my model. Unless someone knows a secret trick or way of doing it, which is why I ask. 2017 Ford Expedition, 3.6 Turbo Limited Edition
This should be titled " How to make your oil change take 4 time as long" 1. Take off the felt piece. 8mm Drain oil, reinstall plug and felt. 2. Turn the 3 or 4 white plastic locks on drivers side front shroud in front of wheel. Peel back and uninstall filter, install new filter and reinstall 3-4 white plastic pieces. 3. Pour 6qts 5w30 and check for leaks. No metal shield removed. No entire shroud removed. Oil will drain through that square hole. CEMENT BLOCKS?? REALLY?? DEAR GOD!?
Yeah, the cement blocks are cringe. Entrusting a pair of brittle blocks to support the heavier end of a 5900lb vehicle when you can just get decent jack stands...being elbow deep in an engine and the truck comes suddenly crashing down and possibly dislocating a joint or breaking a bone (aside from damage to vehicle). A pair of 3 tons are $50 at Costco. Seriously? JACKSTANDS ARE CHEAPER THAN A HOSPITAL VISIT!
Cool, then don't.....I'm not there to just do an oil change. I'm there to do preventive maintenance which means you need to see the components to check them. Thanks for letting me know, mine has the same label as well......

@@Sellthoseflippingcars hes talking about the large metal skid plate.

Videos like this save me a lot of money. I just changed my Escape oil, saved about $50. My 2017 Expo will be next. Thanks for this.
You are most welcome! Thanks for watching and happy you are saving some money!!!

I took that off to get a better shot with the camera. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this man the other videos I could position myself under the truck to find the oil pan screw thanks a bunch
You are most welcome Iron Man! I'm glad that you found the video beneficial with changing your oil on your Ford Expedition

Think the drain spout would work if the vehicle was level?
Maybe.....ill try again on next oil change

Nice Descriptive video, thank you.

I get a full synthetic oil change for $80. Not sure where you got your pricing from.

Any idea where the fuel filter is? Great video by the way.
Thank you for watching Redstar! Follow your fuel lines from the fuel tank, the fuel filter should be located by the rear door
Was thinking of installing a Fumoto valve. Wonder if it would allow changing oil without removing the plates. Can you see the oil plug thru that access hole on the passenger side?
You can access but I wanted more space and leaving the plate on would just leave a big mess. So I removed mine for the oil change
So you don’t have any oil spillage when you pull out the oil filter?
Yes there will be some oil spillage but not much, just wipe up what drips out. No worries, great job on working on your own vehicle!!!! Thanks for watching!
