Farmer Maggot should of been an unlockable character. Would of been like playing the game on GOD MODE!
his dogs are always with him attacking enemies while he uses a pitchfork to skewer them orcs
This game had no business being as good as it was.
Man the memories with my uncle on this game.. its a crime that they don't make co-op games like those
@@noname_noname_ have you tried Castle Crashers? Highly recommend!
It was basic as fuck. Just shows how trash todays games are and how easy todays gen is to milk
One small correction!
Common misconception that Merry, pippin, and faramir are just re-skins.
They actually each have one improved attribute.
Merry and Faramir both do increased damage with their ranged attacks! Try this with Faramir and Aragon side by side with maxed out arrows. Faramir will one shot orcs with no charge, Aragon cannot.
Pippin is actually op and just does more damage with his fast attacks. Besides perhaps gandalf, this makes him the strongest character in the game overall. You have to see it to believe it, but it is truly disgusting how fast pippin will kill a troll.
I remember when I thought the graphics were godlike back then, definitely a beast of a game for its time.
i was born in 1987 and didn't think them godlike back then but loved the graphics
don't forget back then the consoles weren't as powerful as todays consoles
also there was an old console before ps1 had games using real characters and backgrounds called 3do
Such an important part of my childhood. Maxed out every character and had every level memorized. Absolutely a classic.
20 years later and we get Gollum…what a sad time to be alive
Shadow of mordor & shadow of war are good games if you haven't played them already not as good as these ps2 ones set in jacksons universe , but it's set in middle earth you can meet sauron in his annatar form & dark lord form, meet celebrimbor , galadrial, gollum , shelob, the nazgul , elves ect, you can build your own orc army and do fort battles fly drakes , ride carigors really fun games and good story you can get it on any platform
@@welsh-cymru1588 I’ve played both, i love the nemesis system and creating my army but honestly I’ve always wanted a big rpg set in lotr or star wars, it’s depressing we haven’t gotten a game like that yet. My favorite lotr game is still the return of the king from ps2 tho.
@shalimhasanrakhimhabibi4783 same an RPG lord of the rings open world game with dialog options would be amazing, can you imagine picking your race from eleves, men, dwarfs , orcs or uruks and creating your own character choosing your own path good or evil having your base in either gondor , rohan , rivendel , minis morgul or mordor depending on what race you choose, an online mode to free roam with friends would be amazing too baffles me that they haven't done it already a PVP mode like lord of the rings conquest had back in the day would also be fun too a new more modern version of it they would make a fortune 💰
Shelob lair is quite hard indeed but, in case you will replay it once more, here's a pro tip: it just takes a fierce attack to turn spiders to their back, and you can easily pierce them with the finisher move 😊
The fastest way to get rid of the spiders is to knock them on their back and then do a RT stab
Fun fact, there aren't neverending enemies on the Path of the King gate level. Played the level with cousins, and by myself multiple times, eventually the waves stop.
That is interesting I never knew that!
@@ithinkitsvizbi to clarify, I edited my comment twice. First edit I also stated that the game ain't that hard, but that was before the video was finished and you talked about the checkpoints in single player. I then deleted that portion of my comment. I played the game through first with my nephews on PS2, we failed alot but I don't recall that it was particularly hard, we just failed because I think it was difficult for young kids to be on the same page. But this was a very long time ago so maybe it was genuinely harder than I remembered. I played through the game solo multiple times after that on PC, so maybe that is also why I don't remember it being hard.
@@rubz1390 Hey it's all good! Also keep in mind I might just be garbage hahaha.
I always used that level to grind massive amounts of xp on legolas by parrying and then getting a couple kills with the combo meter full. Took like an hour, but if you bought the right skills afterward you could oneshot the Nazgul on the Pellenor Fields level afterward. Good times.
god this just triggered so many core memories for me. played this on the gamecube. i’ll always remember that hobbit mission where the orc says “there’s a bunch of boys spoiling for a fight”
I still hope for a remaster version of this game so I Can play this game again on ps5
Im getting flashbacks of me playing this as a 6 year old and struggling 😂
I remember playing this as a kid and enjoying it until I got stuck because of the difficulty. Glad I wasn’t alone. Great video
I would love if this and The Two Towers got a modern remaster/remake- keep the games as they are with remade visuals, higher quality/framerate film scenes, and a few tweaks; a couple more checkpoints in co-op, better collision, maybe a couple of new playable characters (like Eowyn, or Gandalf’s Grey variant; maybe even some villain characters or the cast of the LOTR The Third Age game complete with their own movesets and combos). There’s a fair bit that could be done with this game all these years later.
Love hearing flood music play while Sam and Frodo take on spiders
With Shelob's Lair, you can just press Triangle/Y once then stab to deal with spiders in 2 seconds. Another easy combo is the X, O then R2. You guys play this game like I did when I was a kid, it's cute
Get in perfect mode everytime by buying the 🟪 + R2 parrys, and farm at the south gate 👌
This game,The Third Age (Ps2) and The battle for Middle Earth 2 (Pc) were the best
Yes omg I can’t believe how bad he was at the spider part
@@xCrodumx Want a HD Trilogy collection like they did with DMC (PS2) of the TT, ROTK and TTA, that'll be sick. (Just the EA peter jackson games). As the The hobbit and FOTR ps2 games were :skull:
Seriously though. People think the game is simple-minded just because it’s an older title. Final Judgement is the best single target light combo in the game and you get it at like level 2 lol. It’s brutal watching other people play this game most of the time 😂
I still remember my brother raging because he’d let me take all the health pickups and we’d still fail levels because I was ass at video games. Top shelf memories with this one, and I still play it once every few years.
Frodo's vest! Poor hobbit must be dead!
I heard this lines so many times replaying this mission cause it was the most fun
Around 12 years old me and my friend and we used to play this almost every day for a year straight. All shits and giggles until some starts stacking perfect kills then no one is speaking and at the end we both hold out breath to see who gets the highest count of perfect kills. 😂
This game is hard but actually has a ton of exploits. As Gandalf in the ent level you can just let the orc archers shoot the ent while you wait and farm xp. Even better farm is in the next level top of the wall, where you clear the ramparts near the tower ladder, then run back to push down a few regular ladders and come back once it fills up with orcs. Third farm place is the mission with Aragorn after the king of the dead with giant gate. You can just kill all the orcs, they spawn for a very long time and you get stupid amounts of xp with your special perfect trigger and parry perfect activators. For the black gate you have level 12 Gandalf with all abilities that just obliterates everything. Play the hobbits last and buy all the upgrades that go for all characters. When you level up with Sam, you instantly get all the combos and health upgrades. Now you are supposed to use cloak in the spider lair, which you seemed to miss out on, but aside from that it's much easier to heavy attack the spiders and then finisher. One, two kill a spider, then press the button to jump back and repeat. You can mix it up with fast attack or parry to deflect if you are surrounded. Now shelob is all about combos and crowd control, you can kill her in just couple hits with all the upgrades you farmed early in the game. The hardest are the little spiders but if you mastered the technique it should be doable. It's a paradox that the following level Cirith Ungol is the hardest one for me in the game, because I simply have to kill every single orc in that level, but that's just me. Great video!
I still play the gba version to this day
A true champion among mortals.
Good idea to include the completion of the game in my resume !
References :
Legolas - Sam - Pipin
The point is... When I finished the game as a teenager, I truely wasn't thinking about my career 😅😅😅😅😅
Feeling proud of myself after hearing you describe the spider level. I always played this on single player as a kid. I remember the top of the wall level the strongest but I can't believe I made it through the spider level back then
Pretty much beating any level in this game is a big accomplishment! 😄
@I Think Its Vizbi Apparently I was a better gamer back in the day 😂
@@TheSoulCarnie Haha I feel that myself!
@@ithinkitsvizbi try beating the entire game on Hard difficulty. It's quite the task.
i always used the strong attack and stab with the spiders seemed to kill them easily
This game is maybe the single best couch coop games ever made..its between than and Gears of war 2 for me...
I love this game so much
Did you never realize you could heavy attack the little spiders and instantly knock them down for a finisher, or ignore them for a few seconds?
Haha I guess I didn't! That level is just so hectic it feels like the safest way to go is to just spam the light attack
@@ithinkitsvizbi It is pretty bad co-op, Did you also find Minas Tirith courtyard had a weirder camera angle in 1P than co-op?
@@Sazilla I definitely did. There were multiple levels that played a little different in single player, I guess because the camera isn't as fixed as it only has to focus on one person.
21:30 Why isn’t Pippin the P2 in this level? He was with Gandalf at Minis Tirith, and he is a playable character in the game, he even wears his Gondor uniform, it should have been him.
Absolutely right! He really should have been!
This video popped on my recommended and I was not disappointed! This was a great trip down memory lane.
Hey thanks for checking it out! Glad you liked it :)
This game was unironically peak for it's time. I think I got walled at Cirth ungol because I died at the bridge and had to redo the whole level and I just lost all my motivation
Ya that is a big heartbreak moment for sure.
I played hundreds of hours of this game on the GBA as a kid, and I still play it today!
The tricks for shelob are the combos, dark deliverance and balrogs gambit. Good amounts of stun, high damage, resets her attack patterns.
my brothers would always choose legolas and Aaragorn and I would get so mad I would have to play gimli. jokes on them, he's my favorite now haha.
10:22 the orc is actually a captain that Frodo and Sam encounter in Mordor (in the extended cut)
growing up I LOVED this game. My siblings and I played all the time!
Great vid! You're a young youtuber, too! This was a very enjoyable watch.
I've come back and watched this video a few times now and this is a genuinely great review of the game (Even tho you never heavy attacked the spiders)
played this with my brother when we were around 11-13 year olds. maxed out many characters, best game, best sibling co-op. hardest level pelennor fields.
Idk y I have such vivid memories of playing this. I didn't have a player 2, but it was still so much fun.
For the Shelob Level, you'll have a much easier time hitting the small spiders with just one heavy attack and then follow it up with a killing blow. Hobbit killing blows are the fastest in the game and so taking out the spiders this way is much more effecting than spamming light attack. Once I discovered this is a kid it made the level much easier.
I feel like there was a resurgence of the Gauntlet style game at that time, which might have influenced their decision for making RotK in the hack n slash style still one of my favs but if you want the greatest couch coop fantasy game you HAVE to play Champions of Norrath (1 & 2) it’s truly one of the most underrated multiplayer games
If you’re more interested in building a character, 100% go with the EverQuest Champions games. If you’re just looking for combat tho, LotR has to be the way to go
Another LOTR game I really like is The Third Age which often goes overlooked but this game is the G.O.A.T
I owned this game as a kid. I remember any level controlling hobbits were so hard because you died so easily.
I played this game a ton when I was around 9 years old. It was really challenging and I only managed to beat it twice, but it was really fun.
Oh man me and my brother tirelessly always achieve PERFECT status in every level. Specially when during mid game for the Two Towers on the PS2 we lately know how to do Combos and those Bane moves
You should replay it but learn the block + execute combo... instant perfect status...really makes you able to upgrade faster and speedrun the game.
For the hobbit path, in the first mission in Osgiliath, there is a spot where you can hit the hit the Nazgul with your throwing knives, giving 2k experience a pop! You can practically do this without limit.
One of the top 3 games from my childhood.
I remember getting a bunch of FREE demo disks in my pop tarts as a kid, but our family home PC was too slow to handle this game!!!
Halo flood music in Shelob's lair xD
The explanation of this video was amazing lol very few people new how hard this game was. It was so rewarding beating it with your co op partner. They need to remake it !
Just found your channel through this, you make great stuff and have a great cadence/video pace, well done :)
I played this at a friends quite a bit as a kid, but only remember the first 3 levels well.
Literally replayed this very game about 100x and never got tired of it
I remember playing It with a friend when it came out and it was the hardest game ever. I emulated It 3 months ago on my phone and It was waaaay easier. Totally forgot about you didn't have checkpoints when playing coop
This game is definitely a tough one. That's crazy that you emulated it on your phone!
@@ithinkitsvizbi thanks! Aethersx2 is the best emulator on Android atm for PS2 games. And any cheap bluetooth controller works wonders to bring back that nostalgia.
@@1cancadrilo1 That is coo I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the info :)
How to put Frodo in POTH.
Have co op be an alternate timeline where Sam and Frodo never split up. End Shelob's lair with Frodo getting stuck by Shelob and getting taken away by Orcs. Then begin Cirith Ungol with Sam Rescuing Frodo and have them fight through the level backwards.
I was so sure for years that the Two Towers was also co-op but turns out I was alone at Helm’s Deep lol I suppose me and my cousins were always playing this and Two Towers to the point I just mixed the experiences up. But man these games were amazing and it’s crazy this is what I was playing as a kid. The difficulty was no joke!
whats funny is that the Two Towers game does have a "coop" option... where player one plays through the entire mission solo, and then the game reloads the map for player 2 lol
Im so glad someone else found this gem back in the day
The black gate I remember being so much harder solo than on co-op. Not only do you miss out on a helpful buddy, but you have to protect one more character as well! Little kid me struggled without the help lol
I replayed this game for years & always have fun. I still remember all the combos. 😂
Love this game. Wish they would put it on the Xbox store.
Would be cool if they made an avengers infinity sage like this game. With movie scenes and different paths when the different movies came out. You can only play a character that’s in that movie/level. Could have new dlc every time a new movie comes out. Would of been sick. Missed opportunity. Guess some company still could
i love this game
masterpiece. but god damn fucking hard as balls...
no healing. overwhelming enemies. and events that force you to beat under a minute.
hardest: minas tirith wall by far... i remember playing this as a kid with my good friend and we where so mad at a few times we had to play other games to cooldown.
years later its another-- nah kidding ITS STILL THAT FUCKING WALL! once i get past that level its smooth sailing.
but yeah agree if i played games like this daily. and then played dark souls i would breeze trough that game. instead i played easier games. wish i didnt :(
If you're trying to beat the game on Hard difficulty (which I've done once), then Shelob's Lair is by far the hardest mission.
Played the crap out of this game with my brother back in the day. I have it sitting on my shelf here on original xbox right next to night caster and brute force, all very underated games.
I'm glad someone admitted that this game was actually hard. I was worried I was the only one that struggled with the game.
This game is super easy.
Bought The Third Age and Return of the King this week (Gamecube). Two games to rule them all!
This game, the battle for helms deep one and battle for middle earth 2 were hands down not only the best lotr games but some of the best in their genre. Someone needs to put a billboard outside thqnordic since that's all they do now
I loved this damn game so much. and the two towers. the third age was kinda bland but if they remade this game or remastered it. I'd buy it no doubt. huge lotr fan . great video !!
Thank you so much! I still need to play the third age myself. Definitely on the list though
@@ithinkitsvizbithe third age is a great game, recently replayed it in emulation
It is really disappointing that there hasn't been a better LOTR game than this in the past 20 years.
I had this game for GBA and an elementary school friend of mine had it on GameCube. I loved those damn games. I had a ton of fun playing those games. I thought they had decent replayability too, especially the GBA game for me.
Love this game. You hit me right in the childhood.
I had to beat this game 20 times
We had this game. It took a long time to beat the 20 level thing...A VERY LONG time. Like me and my brother took so long to do it.
Goat game, Great video 👏
We should talk to EA in say remastered LOTR two towers in return of the king ASAP or remake u got my money.
I remember when this game was trashed on by Mike Matei when he played the Two Towers and the Return of the King on GameCube and he explained in great detail why the games were so frustrating and annoying and it was mainly due to annoying levels were there’s bad camera angles, not enough checkpoints, characters that get in your way all throughout the levels, too many enemies in certain levels and really annoying boss battles
My only memories of struggling with this when i was younger was the Black Gate level. Maybe my brain has repressed any other horrible memories from other levels.
The twilight princess music in this video is peak
i really enjoyed the demo that came inside the cereal box (lotr return of the king) the gameplay was awesome!
the trick with the spiders in shelobs lair to kill them quickly is use the strong attack and then stab them when their on the back
Man, I remember playing this game on the PS2 all day with my friends
EA made some truly fantastic games back in the day. The Battle for Middle Earth series is another one, personally I really like what they did with the first one where you follow the story of the films similar to this game, but in a strategy game with an Emphasis on Eomer and Faramir next to the fellowship missions.
EA also made Mirror's Edge which, despite all the hate it's getting, was just such a cool and fun if short game back then, I still play it every few years just because it's the pacing and mix between calm sections and action sequences is so fantastic imo.
Btw fun fact there no never ending Orc location in the game me and my friend farmed every location..even at the big gate they eventraly stop chucking orcs at you
1:28 nice reference to the actor interviews there ;)
The strat for the shelob level is power attacks to knock the baby spiders on their backs and finish them with the ground attack move. Easy peasy
Remake of this game would be the best played all the series in GameCube
Gronde is not a character; it is the name of the Battering Ram (named after Morgoth's own hammer)
Me and my brother got stuck on Shelobs lair for a long long time 😅😅great game 😊
On top of everything this game provides, it also has like 10 save slots.
Shiiiii I got it on my PS2 emulator and I'm installing it on my PC as we speak
I remember struggling wit Minas Tirith upper for ages, absolutely hated that level. But i dont recall Shelobs lair beinf that tough.
Great great game. Tons of good memories
10:21 Nah, that's the orc inspector from the Extended version.
Two words to make Shelob's Lair way easier: Final Judgement. Even if most combos don't work on the spiders, this one slices through them like butter.
Got this game on a GameCube disc last Christmas (I'm a collector with my dad) I played it until the gondor stage, it pissed me off I never unstood how to complete it lol.
“And we got an excellent? GIVE ME THAT SHIT” Made me crack up 🤣🤣 Goodt job on the review! I will always love this game. It was amongst the first PS2 games I played. I still quote it 🤌🏽
enemies do end at the South Gate in the path of the king, you can get to lvl 8
You forgot the palantir of Sauron! Get Gandalf, Sam, and Aragorn/Legolas/Gimli to level 10 and itll unlock at the top right of the levels
Currently playing through this game and absolutely fuck that large orc at the end of the first hobbit mission. Keeps whooping my ass
I hated that guy! He's the worst!
The mission is easy, but that one boss orc cranks the difficulty up to 10, and I don't believe you get a checkpoint right before that, you have to do like half the level again if you die there.
10:26 they are the same ork! but no the ork in the icon is the whipping ork from when sam and frodo are kind of recruited in mordor by an ork hord
Thank you for making vids man you deserve A SHIT TON more subs I played this game with my older brother like 14 years ago now jesus that is weird to read. LOVE THIS FUCKING GAME, BACK WHEN EA MAKE AMAZING GAMES AND EVERYTHING WAS GOOD XD
That is so cool to hear! Thank you! Definitely from a bygone era where EA was killing it!
I never got to play this but I played The Two Towers and that rocked!
Over rated game tbh
Where did it all go wrong? How did we go from the greatest hack and slash movie tie-in games to the Gollum game?
