    Really enjoyed that Tom, thanks Trent is my local water too. Must give hemp a try trotting the stick.

    Good video Tom. Brings back memories of when I used to fish about 7 or 8 mtrs to hand with white No. 6 elastic back in the late seventies after watching some Barnsley anglers using the same method at Fiskerton. 3gr Dick Clegg aluminium-stemmed bolo type float with an olivette then a string of three number eights shirt button style over the last 24". Deadly method either running through or edged down the swim. It'll be years past it's "best before" date now but think I've still got it on the original winder in my spare box upstairs.

      Hi Dave. Thank you!
      It’s a lovely stretch and the stick float still does the damage to be honest. Nothing better than inching a stick through for roach

    I stand corrected 😊. The pub was called the star and garter. Swinno told me a few days before but I forgot the name....
    What a fantastic stretch of water!!!

    Hi,brilliant short video, me and a friend used to fish this stretch of the trent 30+ years ago there was some platforms to your left hand side we fish off brilliant fishing then and sometimes we would sneak off for a quick pint in the star and Garter.

    • @tommynoton7629
      @tommynoton7629 4 роки тому

      Hi John. Thank you very much. Was it mainly roach back then? I think there’s the remnants of the old platforms still there. It’s a shame the pub isn’t still there to be honest.

    • @johnwarrenner4432
      @johnwarrenner4432 4 роки тому +1

      Hi Tommy, yes mainly roach back then, when the river was in flood we fished the pegs below the boats in the slack water for the bleak good old days.

    What a great video, Tom, you explained everything so well and make it look so easy and we all know it isn't. I have a few question...1. how deep was the peg? if you were loose feeding maggot, how far down the peg do you think the fish would have been? within pole range still? what length were you fishing your pole? could you explain your elastic set up? and lastly, what landing net handle & pole were you using. once again, thank you for a great instructional video, appreciate you taking the time.

    • @tommynoton7629
      @tommynoton7629 4 роки тому +1

      Thank you very much Mark, it’s great to hear some positive feedback.
      The peg was roughly 9ft deep and a nice pace. Loose feeding maggots might have seen the fish out of range but often the fish on the trent will be right under your feed regardless of what’s being fed. By cupping in groundbait you can concentrate the fish on the bottom where you want to catch them. I tend to loosefeed hemp on pegs like this because it sinks a little faster and I’m not going to loose them down the peg. On days where maggot is best I would maybe fish a waggler over the top or a stick/bolo depending on the pace and conditions. This would keep in touch if they drift down the peg to far.
      I fished the pole at 13 meter. I don’t often start longer than this on the trent.
      Elastics are a solid number 6 which I find perfect for river roach. It will also handle the odd rogue bream/perch should they turn up.
      Landing net handle is the browning HyperCarp XTR. With a browning Carp king landing net head. The handle is super strong and great the current. I tent to use a large mesh landing net because of the flow of the river. Hope that helps? Cheers
      Tom

      @@tommynoton7629 Thanks for your reply, when I asked about your elastic, I wondered if you have it through the top one (if long number ones) or the complete top set, I have a number five through the complete top, its perfect fir Roach on my river but if I am really bagging, I find it a struggle to swing them as too much elastic comes out. were you using just the first two sections of the landing net handle? is it light? thanks again.

    Great bit of fishing on display there, 👏👏may I ask which browning pole you used in the video, I’ve not looked at there range, since the World champion was there top pole. Unfortunately three of us had them, and they were each different in the action and stiffness 😱🙈

      Hi Dave,
      Not a problem at all. The pole I’m using in the video is the browning xitan Z16L. It’s a lovely all round for this sort of game. Drop me a message if you have any questions. Find me on Facebook m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=599353046

    je suis jaloux de toi et de ta rivière elle viendrai en France il ne faudrait pas longtemps pour qu'il n'y aurai plus un poisson vue la protection des poisons n'est pas a l'ordre du jour en France ,chers nous les naturalistes préfère protéger les cormorans ils aiment bien les eaux ou il n'y a plus aucune vie ,plus de poissons ,plus de pècheurs, presque plus de cormorans car il n'y a plus rien a becter; enfin ils aiment bien quand c'est mort(les sois disant naturaliste).profite bien tu connais pas la chance que tu as .
