I latched onto this amazing album in 1990 after having seen Spike Lee’s film. I wore this tape out twice. Still one of my all time favorite “Hip hop groups..” RIP Guru.
This is possibly my most favorite tune in the world, ever. Still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up when I hear it, even 25 years later. Thank you for resurrecting it!

Can´t thank Gang Starr enough for bringing Jazz closer to People who don´t know (including myself). Now i know a few famous artists and already have some Cds by John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck and a fine Blue Note Sampler. They´re all very dope! Rakim once said he got this flow from listening to John Coltrane. Who ever thought this? Really interesting

BRADFORD MARSALIS and TERRENCE BLANCHARD . "Mo' Better Blues" is a collaborative album by Branford Marsalis Quartet and Terence Blanchard. It was released in 1990 through Columbia/CBS Records as a soundtrack to Spike Lee's 1990 film Mo' Better Blues. Recording sessions took place at RCA Studios and Sound On Sound in New York. Production was handled by Bill Lee, Delfeayo Marsalis, Raymond Jones and DJ Premier, with Spike Lee serving as executive producer. It features contributions from film stars Cynda Williams, Denzel Washington and Wesley Snipes, and American hip hop duo Gang Starr.
I love those early GangStarr recordings like "Jazz Thing", "Positivity" and "Step In The Arena". Highlight to me is that Bass Sample from Kool & The Gang 🎷🎵🎶

Thanks the knowledge, classic bass lick. Great to find out about the original.
he didn't sample Bird...it was a collaboration dude. Bird actually played for this album with gangstarr.
