- The resignation of Harvard President Claudine Gay has sparked a heated debate on issues of merit, diversity, and inclusion. I have nothing but respect and admiration for Miss Ali. She's one of the most honest straight forward academics I've heard.
Well, she does move around in strange ways, going from devout Muslim and admirer of the extremist Muslim organization Muslim brotherhood to Atheist and now to Christian. Also an investigation found that Hirsi Ali had not legitimately received Dutch citizenship due to her incorrect answers about her name and claimed asylum story. I don't think she was particularly conservative then as the only people who support asylum seekers in Europe are leftwing. Let's just say she is quite smooth and always knows what's best for her.

I have not seen or heard from this woman in years. She’s aged amazingly well and her views are just as sharp as ever! I have so much respect for her courage and bravery. @@AetheriusComics you do understand that this is exactly the problem? So lets say there are at most only a few dozen thousands people qualified for that position in the whole. Not all of them want that position, cause they may have something better. Not all of them live near the Harvard and are not able/willing to relocate. Some are too young and some are too old. So lets be generous and say you still have like 2K qualified people. If you hire based on race, you cut down like 85% or so. So you are at best at 200-300 people. And those are very generous assumptions.
Of course it will be way more difficult to find a good one out of 200 instead of 2K.
And that is ehy affirmative action is actually a very bad thing.

@@AetheriusComics yes I agree, but the problem with positions in high education is that the 2K is not in a single state or in two. We are talking the whole USA. So it just does not matter, you are always stuck with the same pool of people.
And yeah just like you said you dont need to look everywhere just at the right place, but the thing is if you decide to hire based on race or something like that, you very well may be sorting out exactly those people who are perfect for the job.

Gay wrote 11 papers? WTF? At my school we had a minimum requirement of 2 papers to get a phd. That means she wrote 9 papers after graduation and she got tenure? WTF? You know how few tenured positions there are? Even without the plagerism claims, she DIDN'T DO THE WORK to get where she is.

Claudine stepped down as the president of Harvard but still work there in an over $900,000 per year salary. WTF!
Vivek Ramaswamy was on the panel of students from Harvard involved in the installment of Claudine Gay and he said specifically Harvard was looking for a woman and probably a woman of colour. I'd be curious to know the names of the other men/women who didn't get the job and whether they had better credentials. It seems that merit didn't come into the decision.
The integrity and humanity of this woman is so humbling.
Integrity? She gave incorrect information on her asylum application and therefore provisionally lost her Dutch citizenship. She's been a radical muslim, an atheist and is now a Christian. Don't just trust your impression. Do some research.

After exposing the shocking moral blindness of Claudine Gay, a lot of us are wondering about using Harvard Law graduates. That is the real damage she has done with her stubborn refusal to be held accountable.
Im sad to say that too many Harvard students have shown the way they abused the great opportunitist they had in life in order to bully harass and call for the genocide of jews. I would not give any more opportunitiea to people who take advatage of tgem in that way. Peace to the middle east🙏

I recall at UMASS many African-American students, and it was common knowledge, had the equivalent of an Academic Get Out Of Jail Free Card... because their graduation rate was the only consideration, i.e., The Left/Academia is entirely OUTCOME-BASED, ergo, so many cases of failing students passed along and graduated, with inflated/undeserved (in comparison with non-privileged students) high grades for work of questionable quality. Encountered that so many times as a student and tutoring, it was 'wink and nod'.

She is getting Presidents pay to be a lecturer. All the work, the added pressure of being Harvard President, she doesn't have to to do all this work now. She came out smelling like a rose. If you look at her CV she is clearly lazy, no books written, she cut and paste the few journal articles she has done in her career. The topics she wrote about, race and equity - that's typical stuff Black professors write about - most of the Black Professors who get jobs at Universities write about topics on African American issues. In the post civil rights- DEI era this gets you a job as a professor now. I think if colleges hired real Black scholars, science majors, physics major computer majors etc - rather than these racial grievance type professors, professors who just want to dwell on the racial grievances of the past people would not attack DEI hiring like they are doing. I should add, the climate for black professionals, those coming out of college with good grades, has never been better.
The media is reporting she resigned but she’s still working for Harvard for almost a million dollars a year. It’s disgraceful Harvard didn’t fire her for cause. It’s worse they not only didn’t revoke her PHD and allowed her to revise a passed in dissertation to cover her plagiarism.
It's also remarkable both that she avoided any sort of apology in her resignation letter and that Harvard has not updated or clarified its student code of conduct regarding harassment of Jewish students.
It's against woke, progressive religion to hold minorities to any standards. It's against the same religion to deny them any position for lack of qualification. In their woke religion, the ends justify the means, so any white can be displaced by any minority or member of some 'grievance group', as a social justice action. Damage or pain done to the qualified White candidate or current occupant of a position that society deems should be filled by a face of 'color' , etc., doesn't matter.. overriding SOP of The Left is: Everything is Outcome-Based, ergo: The Ends Justify The Means. And of course this madness is guaranteed to sink any society in short order, as is happening all over The West.

I wouldn't have agreed with you in the past but it is glaringly obvious to me now. We must raise everyone UP not bring everyone DOWN in order to ensure a level playing field. I thought that was what we were doing in the lower schools ( elementary, jr high and high) with IEPs and the like but it has only gotten worse. Is NO ONE doing their job in education?

Hasn’t Claudine Gay been shown to have around 50 allegations of plagiarizing? How could she be still a teaching professor at Harvard?
Some of us are aiming for the stars, whilst others are struggling to see further than the garden fence... Harvard needs to get rid of her ASAP!
As a retired academic, I do not know of any academic institution that is considered an institution valuing scholarly research and publications that would not have terminated a professor guilty of repeated (usually ONE TIME PUBLICATION is enough to bet you fired) plagiarism who would have not been fired. Some institutions hire professional manager-types (often with lesser publications), the majority of liberal arts universities (Harvard undergraduate, for example), even those aspiring to be top 50 universities would terminate anyone for plagiarism (far less than the Harvard President was accused of). I have posted to other sites that a top scholar (Ph.D from the University of Illinois, then considered the best Ph.D program in the USA for Communication), having served as a department chair at UCLA, was hired to be Dean of the College at the University of Washington . His saga is typical of what we would expect. He had several publications in good journals, but with administrative workload, he likely spent less time on research. He maintained (only possible defense, which, even if true, would not change the outcome; he might have been rehired at another school) that he had used graduate students as research assistants, and he was too busy to substantiate all sites. However, making this even more egregious (as with the President of Harvard), an obscure academic from a college in Canada sent an accusation of plagiarism of his work (also published in a little known journal) to the foremost journal in the Communication discipline. The work was clearly plagiarized by the Dean’s publication. He could not deny that, so he tried to blame it on sloppy supervision on his part (sounds familiar, doesn’t it?). HE WAS TERMINATED! WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT FOR THE WORLD TO KNOW IS THAT HE NVER GOT A JOB IN ACADEMIA AGGAIN! HE WAS WELL KNOWN AMONG PEOPLE OF COLLEGES RELATED TO SOME RELIGIOUS GROUPS, BECAUSE HE ALSO PREACHED AT VARIOUS PLACES. NO ONE TOUCHED HIM! Academic fraud is a crime demanding severe penalties in places of higher education, because the work of pursing new truth lies at the heart of waht we do outside the classroom. It is the primary basis of promotion to full professor. If those of us on ethics committees have to go through those processes (and we do) then he members of such 11:06 committees know how hard one must work is to get to those levels of recognition honestly, we WE ARE LOATH TO PROMOTE A CHEATER. No matter how small the college or university, NO ONE WOULD HIRE THIS DISGRACED DEAN. He was probably on the short list for some college presidencies before the discovery of plagiarism. As far as I know, he ended his career as a preacher (God forgives; universities seldom do). :)
