    Here's the core issue. People are unwilling to examine their own position and change their mind when presented with new information or data. Until we develop a culture that focuses on civic responsibility, personal determinism and rational thought we will continue to waste resources chasing ghosts and extending human suffering. This is the modern day religious belief system.
    For example, the left will talk about racism/sexism/agiesm/etc holding people back and it does, but it's not the only factors. Likewise, the right will talk about single motherhood rates, crime, etc holding back groups and it does, but it's also not the only factors. We need to have the courage to broach difficult facts about the world around us and address all concerns, not just the ones that we personally believe at the time.
