How MVMT Is Stealing New Customers From Under Seiko's Nose

- While I've ripped apart certain fashion watches like MVMT in the past, it's important to acknowledge that they still sell extremely well. In fact, in this video, I'll be analysing some of the revolutionary tactics that such brands are using to market their pieces and outdo some of the heritage watch brands, such as Seiko.

Help.
😂
I’ve been lucky somehow, despite my love of watch channels I’ve probably had two or three ads for Vincero. Of course that’s not including all the shilling from Real Men Real Style, Alpha M ect.
Haha nice, I got a Vincero on this video
It baffles me how in 2020 ppl still haven't heard off ad blockers or use YT Vanced app
I got a Vincero ad -__-
Someone needs to show this video to the marketing departments and CEOs of the heritage brands ASAP.
Tweet them the video haha
@@BensWatchClub "Bit" late to the party, but I think an old fashioned written letter sent by pigeon post might do the job better, considering their activity on social media...or lack thereof
"A mate told me MVMT are better than Rolex, is this true?"
👌
Absolutely MVMT is better than Rolex... MVMT will pay you $$$ if you are Internet famous and give EVERY watch they sell for free, while Rolex will only pay you if you are REALLY famous (James Cameron, Roger Federer, Tiger Woods... you get the idea). So how is MVMT not better than Rolex? /S
It's a very vague and open question. Is Aston Martin better than Toyota? Some products and aspects are better, some are not. A DB& will run circles around my 4Runner all day, but as soon as I jump a curb and cross a creek bed, the Aston is nowhere.
MVMT has a good product. Rolex has a very good product. Rolex, as a company has clout, huge budgets for advertising, and a long history of building excellent products. They are, however, the "timex" of the fine watch world. Mechanically, there are several houses who produce a far superior product, some at lower cost, most at significantly higher cost with incredible exclusivity. MVMT has a great product, and as long as they're in it for the long haul, they're just a matter of time (pun intended) from joining the respected watch companies out there. We just have to wait to see what happens with them, if they're just a flash in the pan, or a serious contender. So, the comparison is really not a fair on in any respect, unless you get specific. Water resistance, mechanical accuracy, reliability, amount of labor required to produce, production volume, COSC certification. ask a more specific question and it's a better discussion.
At least you can get a MVMT. I went to 6 ADs and waited weeks/months (if you count from the first AD) to get my Rolex gmt master ii.
@@aladarsolymosi2433 No, this is the problem. MVMT does NOT have a good product. They basically drop ship watches from AliExpress. If you like the design of MVMT watches, do yourself a favor and buy directly from the Chinese company that makes it. IE AliExpress etc.
alwong604 Yeah no shit they give you their made in China watches for free they cost practically nothing to make. You are comparing apples to oranges and clearly know nothing about watches.
i was actually surprised that seiko make 100$ AUTOMATIC watches 😅 I thought their cheapest models cost at least 400$
they do now in 2024 XD
Traditional watch brands, especially those in the higher price points, rely on elitism and exclusivity in order to market their watches. The amount of derision sometimes I feel walking into a luxury watch store and the snobbishness of the people I sometimes have to handle in these stores who judge based on appearance alone is enough to put me off the brands. Whereas if you buy a fashion watch brand, often times their customer service is on point and they know their target audience, they know exactly what their selling point is. Even though I can't condone buying MVMT or DW, at least they are on the level and have a grounded approach to their sales.
Japanese are pretty traditionally bad at marketing their products, that is the reason why Japanese brands almost regularly have marketing departments in the USA or Europe. Shilling your product is unnatural to them, and they suffer from "company led by the engineering department" syndrome, which is something I always admired but led to ruin of many great companies (looking at you, Jaguar Cars) because engineers just don't know or care about trends and customer's needs and wants. I know that issue very well, I am one of these engineers that could be very elitist and sneery because "I know my stuff", and I am a naturally curious and contrarian personality. That is not the type of people you want to handle your marketing and customer service.
Wow Ben, so many brilliant insights. I never felt like the big companies are disrespectful to their costumers, but now it seems so clear. You made many valid points. Those heritage companies should hire you as a consultant!
Youre totally right
the Seiko 5 range would benefit from the UA-cam / Instagram social media influencer marketing campaign. They are affordable high quality & stylish. It would implant the brand in a new generatuon and open the door to the rest of their amazing depth as a watch brand.
Jay Paul it's something I think swatch do quite well. I always see them turning up on my social media and they do seem to have appeal with some bold quirky designs. Seiko fives could achieve a similar thing albeit with more reserved pieces.
I think Seiko 5s would be considered too old fashioned for most millennials. They are smaller than most fashion watches and also quite thick due to the mechanical movement. Also I can’t imagine many non watch geeks being especially enthused about having to reset the time regularly if you don’t wear them for a day or two or having to adjust them often due to their relative inaccuracy compared to quartz watches.
@@jacc88888 not really, the Seiko 5 full blackout is selling like hotcakes
thehypercovery Fair enough. Doesn’t mean your average fashion watch wearer will be buying them in droves though.
The mechanical movement on seiko 5 is not that good. Non watch geek would like quartz movement more
Its so many good points in this video. When you taked about how bad old brands websites are I felt I couldnt agree more. Its really weired how they make it difficult to find what you are looking for or even be sure you looked at all their watches as they are placed under several subcategories.
This is quite the opinion piece/case study! Barring the more prevalent points like influencer marketing, UX, web stores, and online presence in general, I especially loved the case for stellar product photography in the marketing portion of the video! My take is, if these heritage brand offerings are really that good, you should depict them with good enough quality photography to show for it.
Great stuff as always, my friend! =]
Yeah it's pretty true. Every time I buy a Seiko or heck even a Vostok, the watch I see when I open that box looks better than I could have imagined from the photos. Those awful photos have actually stopped me from buying some Seiko 5s. Me, a person who WANTED to buy the watch! Couldn't buy it! The pics were too ugly!
I have also seen the pics for DW's, and held and worn one - they are much less impressive in the flesh...
I think most fashion watches are 10% cost of goods and 90% advertising and profits. If Seiko followed that model they’d be out of business. Can’’t believe such a nice watch as the Seiko 5 can be had for about $75.
Not to mention how well they retain their value. 40-50 year old Seiko 5's still go for around that value, maybe a little less. I've seen people selling their DW's and MVMT's for 20-25% of retail (and "legit" ones, not fakes, even though they're the same).
While there might be factors why heritage brands don't operate the same way, you've successfully pointed out what the new generation sees and areas heritage brands need to pay more attention to if they plan to sell to the new generation. Great content!
The reality is most of the younger generation aren't interested in specs, horological history, sapphire crystal and in house movements! They want something that looks bang on trend regardless of whether it's a piece of shit or not. Remember this generation has been brought up on fast disposable fashion the likes of primark etc. And they're tech savvy plenty of platforms to be marketed to easy prey for influencers!
Most people don't GAF about watches. They don't wear watches, they don't think about watches, they don't know watch brands. Fashion watches are probably the main way newcomers get interested in the topic.
Phafanapolis true the most important function of any watch is does it tell the time if it nails that function then happy days!
Tahir “you’re talking about”
Hardly unique among this generation just look at the Quartz crisis, if Swatch hadn't pumped out disposable watches [disposable by design] into the market circa the 80s then the Swiss Watch industry in particular would be dead.
Hello, young generation here. So most people just don't care about watches at all, some want it as an accessoire. But when you have really no clue about watches, you just know Rolex which is by far too expensive and then you come across brands like DW quickly because of their ads, it doesn't sound too bad. At that point, you don't even know how bad they are, they just kinda look nice. But I got sceptical when I saw their profit margins so I decided to dive deeper into watches and I don't regret that
A lot of people also think that Rolex and Seiko are for old people.
Fashion brands ads have excellent photography, but the watches look like absolute crap IRL.
Ben, you definitely deserve more subscribers. Thank you for your insights into what the fashion watch brands are doing right and what the traditional watch brands are not doing enough of.
As a marketer for 20 years for some of the biggest consumer electronics companies in the world, I feel (don't take this the wrong way, it is a compliment), while your advice from the marketing side overly basic, the fact that the heritage brands cannot accomplish this basic advice is very telling. No wonder why the watch community is up in arms when they see (in their mind) these subpar brands eat everyone's lunch. The fact is that companies like seiko operate where they feel marketing is an afterthought and subservient to the power of the product/engineering teams will be their downfall. With the last company I worked for, marketing led the product planning and the engineering group's job was to ensure marketing's vision was met. That is how modern companies need to run, and that's why we became a fortune 50 company.
IDK if the marketing team should be in charge of product development necessarily. The product is ultimately what matters, not the "story" behind the product. As a consumer, I want the best product for the least amount of money.
@@Mister_Phafanapolis Maybe you do - but you need only to look at DW and see that the marketing DOES matter more than the product for the majority of buyers.
If marketing was in charge of product planning and development at the company I work at, we would have run out of money. My job is to take the marketing and sales guys/girls wishes and translate it into something possible (and that we have guarenteed demand for) without breaking the bank.
These are not inferior products only in our minds. These are inferior products full stop and that can be proven objectively. If you want to commend them because they have a great marketing department, good for you I guess. But what are the clients getting in return for such department?
I'm not sure if DW customers are the same target audience as Seiko customers..
DW Customers are tasteless millennials.
Seiko / Heritage Brand customers are sharp - looking, intellectual gentlemen.
@@pranaviyer971 That's a tad condescending and judgemental. I think the DW buyer is more focused on aesthetics and the Seiko customer prefers heritage and appreciates mechanical components. But I'd never go so far as to insinuate Seiko customers are gentlemen. I'm actually quite sure you can't purely judge on brand-name alone if someone is an intellectual...
Sorry but your comment is just insultingly superficial..

As a Seiko and Tissot owner, I couldn't care less about heritage or history
Last year I decided I wanted to purchase a particular model of Seiko but I couldn't find one for sale anywhere except some wee company in the Far East. I phoned Seiko head office here in the UK to see if they could help in any way. I think I got through to the winner of the World's Most Unhelpful Person Championships. I got my watch in the end no thanks to their head office and it's the best watch I've ever owned. An automatic gaining about 1 second a day is great and proof that Seiko watches rule. However, their UK outfit can "do one".
Which Seiko did you go with?
@@Mister_Phafanapolis I bought an SNZG13J1. I love the design and it's more accurate than I could have hoped for.
You hit the nail in the head. Most of the entry level watches by Seiko, Orient, and the Swatch group look like absolute crap. Many of them seem to look purposely cheap to try to convince you to buy a more expensive model. The only exception are the Orient Bambino watches.
Seiko to me is the worst offender of all. They have a ridiculous amount of models, none of them have names, just a jumble of numbers and letters. You'll never in a million years find a catalog with all their models, you get maybe 80 models at most, so there's no way of keeping track. All of their new worthwhile watches are more expensive than even the Swiss equivalent, but with the same old Seiko QC. What's wrong with them?
You just nailed it! Great quality video man, I see you've really put in the effort and you're just so right about everything you talked about.
But... But... But... They are better than Rolex! 😏😆
They are. They are more reliable and precise and almost destroyed the mechanical / automatic industry
@@mazelganguly1022 yeah like who in their right mind would buy rolexes?

Great video, Ben. Love the depth and detail- keep it up!
Absolutely brilliant video, Ben,, well researched, and precisely presented,,
Great stuff,,,,
I think that brands like Seiko and Orient feel that they rely on the history of their products for being competative and for robustness and reliability especially with the mechanical watches like the Seiko 5 and even perhaps the less well known Orient 3 star watches the latter being less well known here in the UK. I think that Seiko now need to update their Seiko 5's by making them with a hackable and hand winding movement like the new Seiko 5 sports range of watches. Casio make some really good watches also and are great value for money especially the G-Shocks that have a lot of functions on them for every eventuality for £100 or less, even the basic square watches are great everyday watches for less than £20 in many cases.
I'm so mad that I cant get a casio sapphire, I instantly fell in love with it when I saw your video 😭😭😭😭
Your videos are really well made, lots of serious information and lots of research were made. I really enjoy your work thank you Ben Arthur
Thanks Will!
Great video, congratulations. As a matter of fact, with most heritage watches, the only way to see how they really look is to hunt for user generated pictures or UA-cam videos: the pics on the official web sites are usually appalling, a drawing would be more realistic.
Yes it genuinely would haha. Thanks Luca!
Seiko stock photos. :D
Literally getting bombarded with ads from fashion watch brands as I watch this video 😂
Many known perfume manufacturers do the same: they make something special, consumers love it, it gets sold out withing few months, then they either discontinue it or reformulate the ingredients to make it different (or cheaper). I guess they do it to protect their other products... but if balanced better both the perfume and watch manufacturers could make more money and satisfy more customers...
I think a part of it is the "but I have a phone" arguement. Watches became an accessory to a lot of people.
Nice work Ben, an impressively-researched and well-argued video. The traditional brands are complacent and lazy, struggling to adapt to the decline of physical retail and the rise of social media. Strangely though, their profits have been pretty healthy until fairly recently, and as mid-range brands ($250 - $1000) they're probably more challenged by the emergence of smartwatches rather than the Daniel Wellingtons of this world.
I just found your channel and enjoy it very much. You’re an intelligent young man and I enjoy your straight forward approach. Good luck and take care.
Another outstanding piece of video journalism Ben. Well done.
Absolutely spot on. Enjoyed, and learned a lot from your video. This isn’t applicable only to the watch industry, but in other brands from different industries as well
This is actually an excellent analysis. Nice work.
Great video. I have to agree with all the points you've made. Before I started doing my homework on watches I nearly fell for MVMT as the site was well made, images looked good and ads would always follow me around.
You couldn't have made it any clearer. And your message is spot on.
If any of these traditional brands had any cop on. They would hire you buddy.
Excellent video, thank you. Liked and subscribed 😀
i like you mention that fasion brands design resonate more to younger people that is spot on the money...im now a subscriber..
I agree with you 100%. I'm from Mexico and the marketing of seiko and orient here is practically non-existent. Meanwhile mvmnt and Daniel wellington are thought of as luxury brands.
Luis Antonio Ramírez Argueta eso solo demuestra lo pendejos que estamos en Mexico.
Really great video. Well thought and objectively delivered...thanks
Could the watch establishment do better, yes! They just don't want to. They are still relaying on old fashioned stores . Brands like Seiko and Citizen don't have to. Sales and prices are higher than ever.
For now, will be interesting to see where we are in 15 years or so
Spot on and well done Ben 👍👍
Even when a trad brand enables you to but from their site, it's then more expensive than retail stores or eBay making their site pointless (Times a prime example)
Great video with a lot of convincing points. A strong wake-up call to true watchmakers!
Excellent video. You nailed it.
This is why I like microbrands, like Lorier. They have this marketing strategy alongside a true passion for watches and great build quality. I guess that's the formula to be sold out in 14 min for a new model
I'd love to get my hands on one of those, they look phenomenal imo
Some micro brands do get it indeed. Lorier, Baltic, Undone, some Brew. But they back up their advertisement with truly good products that will generate heritage. Unlike MVMT, DW or Nixon.
Great video Ben. I think cost is another factor. Watches are getting expensive year on years. Esp top branded ones
great video! I fell into the DW trap before I knew anything about watches. They're clearly doing a lot of things right. The marketing warrants their price, but at the end of the day it's the design that gets people in. DW are very nice looking watches. I now have a bunch of nice automatic watches from good watch brands, but none of them really get compliments like my DW does. A girl I dated asked how much it costs, I said 'under £100' (I think I only paid £68 on an Amazon sale), and she said wow that's not expensive! Really made me realise that DW is nailing it. DW doesn't care about the watch forum/UA-cam community, they are only like 0.1% of the audience anyway.
And then you have Seiko randomly discontinuing super-popular models like the SNK23 or SKX007. It's beyond frustrating now that they are almost double the price on the grey market. So many salty people are angry at MVMT and DW but I'm sorry, your beloved Seiko etc are the ones fucking up.
100% agree with you. It's like my journey to find a small affordable diver watch from a good brand that I can find in my country and I've finally found two from Citizen the ep6040 and ep6050 the only problem is....they're discontinued. WHYYYY
And frankly ladies dive watches are sought after more than men's do because they are so hard to find. The only other one I can find is Seiko SKX013 and they're are also discontinued. Good job heritage brands😑
Well said!!
It's time for them to wake the fuck up and most importantly stop discontinuing those SARBs😭
I just found this vid, and subscribed in the 1st minute. This Channel is going to be BIG.
Yes, they are good! I tried since weeks to find a simple 2 hands, flat, affordable dress watch under 400$ from a traditional brand in an ok size. It‘s nearly impossible. All their models are overloaded, cluttered, chunky or simply have some parts which makes them look instantly cheaper then they are. Guys, I don‘t want 42mm and case thickness over 12mm. I want 38mm and case thickness around 8mm. Is there something better than DW?
Seiko make a very nice solar field watch which is around 39mm-40mm which I have had around four years now. The only downside with it was the watchstrap which frayed after a short while of use so I purchased a good quality off market solid stainless mesh and solid link bracelet and the watch looks amazing and really comfortable to wear. The price I paid brand new for the watch was £120 or thereabouts with the traditional canvas strap and the bracelet cost me less than £20. I have a couple of Seiko 5's and they are great watches.
Junghans, iconic design with an 100 year old history some popular models are around 700 but you can get for example a Form or a Form C (with quartz) for 400 definitly a good choice
Citizen Eco+Drive, quartz with solar cell so no battery replacement...
The Casio Sapphire in Ben's video above looks pretty good (to me anyway). I like the small second hand subdial.
Casio MTP series sounds like a good starting point or maybe the LTP (same line but sized for ladies)
Fashion watch brands like Daniel Wellington understood that most young women do not want tiny bedazzled pinkish watches more appropriate for their grandmothers. Please take a quick look at what the traditional watch brands offer to women (tissot, seiko, even orient). How many women below the age of 65 would wear that? Most of the women I know would go for a more unisex look, closer to the masculine models, but the watches for men are just too large for a female wrist. I ordered that beautiful casio LTP that you recommended, with the minimalist look, small seconds, and sapphire crystal, but had to return it because it looked like I had a dish strapped to my wrist (and I am definitely not a small woman). Even supposed to be "tough models" for women (baby-g, victorinox inox) "have to have" pink all over them. Citizen doesn't even have automatic models for women (at least on their european website). There seems to be this condescending attitude in the watch industry towards women, as if we were unable to appreciate craftsmanship and well designed products. They mostly seem to reflect what men think ultrafeminine women like, instead of what women would actually buy for themselves and wear. Women throw thousands to buy Hermes/ Chanel bags, Cartier jewelry, all because of the promise of timeless design/ handmade luxury. Why wouldn't we throw money at beautifully made watches? I am just slightly bitter lol...
Heritage brands cause alot of confusion. When i bought my first watch, i was like "what the heck is snk? There are bambino v1 v2? This watch is 7 years old why do they keep selling it? Why it's so expensive when it looks similar to the other one that only half the price (the omega seamaster diver and the kamasu with blue dial, later i learned that the omega seamaster diver price was a steal, it was only 980)" even now i find it hard to introduce a friend to watches, my friend don't find seiko, orient, tissot,... realiable, he thought those were chinese cheap brand because he never see any utuber or tv ads about them
Your friend is an idiot, get a new friend
I think you hit the nail on the head with this video. Until I started becoming interested in watches I assumed Seiko was an expensive brand, so never looked at them. Instead I spent my money on Citizen Eco-Drive watches because I thought they were a lot cheaper, and looked better.
Great video analysis
As someone who literally just got into watches, I can't agree more. I was surprised to find that when I searched through the websites of popular watch brands, that I was actually interested in like 3 models. After watching some reviews I have realized how absolute shit the website photos are. If I hadn't done any research, I would've gone straight back to Vincero's website and bought one of those instead of the plethora of seemingly boring watches on other brand's websites. This is a HUGE issue that if it isn't solved, WILL kill the heritage watch brands. These companies NEED to watch this video
i deadass had 3 ads for egard watches while watching this video, one at the start, one in the middle, and one at the end all advertising the same watch
No one needs a watch nowadays, so wearing a watch is a statement of one thing or another. A Rolex says I'm an unimaginative rich person going for the obvious, a fashion watch says I an an unimaginative follower of trends, a Seiko says I don't need to know the time because I can't see it anyway with these silver hands against a silver dial.
Number of inaccuracies in this comment is laughable
@@microvizart Good good. Those are my opinions, yours may differ.
You’ve never seen a silver Seiko in person, haven’t you?
@@LuisMercadoorg I own two.
11:23 Seiko and Timex I feel are probably the biggest offenders of this. While having a large catalog is not a bad thing per se, they don’t feel like they’re arranged well. I think, instead of grouping them by reference numbers, the a given set of versions of a watch are grouped together, ex: Watch-A, Watch-A with date, Watch-A with date + day; Watch-B, Watch-B with date, Watch-B with date + day, etc.
Spot on Ben 👏
Excellent analysis. Two 👍 up
I seen the Camden watch company and thought no freaking way! I live right next to Camden. Then I looked it up, it's in 🇬🇧
I guess if it was made in Camden city, New Jersey the watches will look a little different.Perhaps bulletproof.🤔
Great video 👏👏👏
Very good and accurate analysis. I totally agree.
You’ve made many good points, particularly the lack of photos of heritage brands and their poor or lack of advertising. I’ve never purchased a fashion watch and never will. It is really frustrating when I’m considering a new watch and have to struggle to find a decent photo of it online. As you point out, their stock photos often are of poor quality and do not accurately portray the finish or details of the watch (Swiss and Japanese companies are all guilty of this). I had this problem recently when checking out a particular Mido I eventually purchased. As for advertising...I couldn’t give a damn what celebrities or “attractive” people are wearing. I want to see ads with close-up shots of the watch so we can see its details. How many ads focus on the wearer and not the watch? Too many. If I’m not mistaken, I watched a short video created by Mido for their Multifort; it left me so irritated because it did not showcase the watch at all-it only portrayed people jumping around and performing various activities! As a result of poor advertising, I’m personally left with videos, blogs, articles, etc. to learn about different or new models, then I’m forced to research the watch to find out as much as I can before making a purchase. Good video! 👍🏻
Thing is, when Tag Heuer, in the 80s and 90s tried a more hip style of advertising to reach a larger market, they were snubbed by watch snobs for being "garbage" watches, just because they tried to make more affordable models.
I actually like it very much that heritage brands tend not to market trough influencers. It may cost them in profits but it is certainly more dignified. Hence I personally am more proud to own their product because the company has higher standards not only for their product but also their marketing strategy.
7:21 imagine drinking champagne in front of a fucking G-Shock logo lol
I'm looking to study marketing at university this year and I think the watch space will be very interesting to watch in the 2020's. It's just desperate for younger ideas and innovation and I'd love to be a part of it in the future.

I actually bought a Vincero Chrono S Rose Gold edition for myself for Christmas. I will preface this by saying I’m relatively new into watches, but also i knew I could’ve been getting a better quality watch for the price (mainly because of you). However, even after watching your review on it I decided to buy it, because i really enjoyed how it looked, plus it had a couple niche selling points for me like the marble in the back casing. So far after two months the leather is still going good and it has survived multiple scratch-scares unscathed. I have gotten lots of compliments for its appearance and personally am really happy with how it looks. Even though it is only quartz movement, sapphire coated glass, and 5 atm water resistance, I would have to say I am very happy with my purchase
I feel like Vincero gets a lot of hate and is blindly grouped into the fashion watch brands, but compared to DW and MVMT it seems to have much better specs, especially regarding it being sapphire coated and not mineral coated glass, having more water resistance, and a better strap and casing. I would love to know your thoughts on this

I enjoyed the heck out of this video. Your opinions made me feel that I became a bit smarter about watches.
One annoying thing with some heritage brands is their products skus, they'll refer to watches by the product number and sku and have a plethora of watches have the same or similar name. Making looking up a specific watch you see difficult when all you know is the generic name like defender or skx
Hi Ben
Really enjoy your vids! I find them clever, coherent, sincere and droll.
- I'd really like to see a video on watches and legibility. I'm getting older, and I haven't read a date on a regular watch for years without resorting to some sort of extra magnification, besides my glasses.
It's not that I am blind or anything, I'm just getting older, and sight does deteriorate for a lot of people with age. One thing that has always puzzled me, is expensive watches with almost no contrast between the hands and the clockface. Even when my sight was better, I'd think: A clock is a highly complex device, whose hallmark-function is to tell the time ... why would anyone introduce a design that works against that? To me it's very important feature of a watch, that I can tell the time with a flick of the wrist.
So which watches are the best at legibility (bar digital or smartwatches of course)? Which are the worst? Which watch would be the most expensive, yet most unreadable of them all? Which cheap or budget watch would deliver you most readability? Stuff like that ...
At any rate - great channel!
Great video, and excellent points
Thanks for the support Glynn!
Ben's Watch Club no problems... great Chanel.
are you wearing the fith automatic in this one?
One of the things I'm legitimately afraid of is a Seiko brand representative saying something like, "We do what we can, but you know, we're not like a Daniel Wellington or an MVMT." That's how I'd know the world is about to end.
Really good analysis.
An update. I could see first hand what you meant with the customer service of the new fashion brand, because after seeing one your videos i bought a CARRNEGIE watch. However, the delivery took... 2 months! And when it arrived, it could not be delivered because my address had been truncated and so the local post office sent it back to HK! And now, it's somewhere in between, because of the virus crisis, and probably lost :-/ However, all along, the customer service has been great, answering fast, providing information, and trying their best (as far as I can tell) to find solutions. I doubt i'll ever get my watch though :-/ except by paying a supplement (59€) to get another one.
Ben rubbing it in our faces with that Casio Sapphire.
I got that Lorus 36mm titanium field watch before that sold out as well at least.
I'm in the same boat, but the Lorus more than makes up for it. It's quickly becoming my favorite watch.
I got a vincero ad on this video. But I think price is a huge factor aswell, that you often need to spend more time and money to get a modern looking watch from a "premium" watch brand. But I could be wrong.
excellent video
I experienced this with my Seiko SRPA25K1. I knew from Videos how it would look. But the product photo was just shit. I was overwhelmed when I saw it in real life. If a person who isn't really into watches compare a Seiko watch with a DW, by their product photos, they're gonna take the DW for sure.
Great insights. Frustrating at how bad the heritage brands are at marketing. Also why don’t companies like Seiko ever send in watches for review? It wouldn’t cost them much.
Ps what watch are you wearing in this video? Looks nice 😀
I think fashion brands are doing right in their approach to women's watch. They have many minimalist watches for women along with more traditional design. You don't see it much in heritage brands.
Spot on!
ALL WATCHES ARE FASHION BRANDS. I am new to taking an interest in watches and the conclusions that I have come to is that all watches are designed to make a certain fashion statement regardless of brand. Certain brands such as Rolex make a fashion statement that "I know which fork to use for my salad" while MVMT says "I know what colors are hot this year". All buying is an emotional experience and all luxury products (who actually needs a watch when you have a phone) are selling is some kind of emotional response. I think that your video is right on the mark about marketing and the impact of mobile applications on the marketing of products. I also think that you are also correct that new channels of marketing are opening all the time and influencers are making an impact on the marketing of goods. You frequently see old school companies that don't like the new ways and get left in the dust as a result. So for those that thing that owning Rolex's or Omega's makes you more serious just rememeber....ALL WATCHES ARE FASHION BRANDS. PS. I also tried to buy the Casio Saphire based upon your review.....unavailable.
Great video, Ben.
I think the fashion's watches gets very successful in these days because of the image from people; they were easy gets into people eyes , because they don't needs to consider as an expensive brand or reliability made since their design as the new trend of fashion's jewelry.
Most of "real watches" like Seiko, citizen or Hamilton.. Seen as an essential tool watch that for old fashioned people, because of the rough looks design of them as diver, pilot, field.. might not looks delicately or dressy enough to match today's fashion wear or young people's taste.
Traditional watch brands rely on customers to do the advertising. Its something like "If you know anything about watches you've most likely heard of us". I have been looking at watches for a while now and the only ads i've ever gotten were from mvmt and vincero and fashion brands in general. I've looked at countless models of Longines and Certina but I've never ever seen any ads/something that would make me buy them.
great video
My favourite creator was Hawking MVMT watches I searched them up on the net those things looked tacky AF.
I will assume the Google saw me searching so when I got to UA-cam it started putting channles like your's and the Time Teller and Teddy Balthaser and others into my feed.
Well thank you search AI I settled on buying a Pressage cocktail time as my everyday watch and a G-Shock as my hikeing hard work watch.
So good work Ben's 👍🏿⌚🙂
Proud seiko presage owner here :)
i also own an invicta pro diver.. whether you like that or not...
Ben do you have any recommendations for any cheap watches that are £150-200 ish? Thanks mate, would really like a diver style if possible. :)
Invicta pro diver or Casio duro, come to mind I don't own them tho, so can't really make an statement on them, there might be something more suitable for you elsewhere.
I like your videos- you are outstanding when you go close to bad watches
This misleading photos-on-the-internet thing is exactly what bothers me the most. Recently I bought brand new Seiko, although I didn't even intend to, because on the photos it looks like nothing I'd wear.
This is so much on point it hurts...
