Same here! I’ve been playing since the launch of this mod. Tbh I don’t even play regular Squad much anymore. Just this mod because of the Awesome gameplay and community around it.

Always though most star wars games were really missing alot of potential in making the games feel real through grittier fighting. Republic commando was really as close as anyone got. Other then that its always felt super toned down. You wouldnt even need alot of blood and guts to do it, just watch like a big chunk of a trooper get completely vaporized and seard shut by those big ass cannons instead of just falling over

Dealing with attacks and bombardments in your main camp.
Fighting morally questionable fight to "liberate" a system for the republic.
I mean if we go for a mature+ game why not have torturing the local seperatist loyalists while trying to take over a planet, to gather intel ob the seperatists base.
Or famine on the front, because there is no supplies coming from the republic.
And then meddeling with the local black market to sustain the army.
You know the really dark war stuff.
Clone wars startet to show stuff like that, but toned down. Why not make it a real heavy weighting experience for the by now mature clone wars fans.

@@alasnoslurpy6961 Squad is amazing on its own, so you're good either way. Best sound effects and visual effects in any game. Shit will give you ptsd. It occasionally goes on sale if you're wanting to wait. Personally, I loved the game so much that I have bought 5 or 6 copies for friends to play, and so the devs could keep working back when it was in Alpha

This looks incredible, it captures the large-scale warfare of the Clone Wars perfectly. Definitely will check this mod out sometime soon.

it does, but the floor textures and buildings definitely need work
There are a lot of spots where its rough around the edges, at first glance though they can pass, but if you play the mod for any reasonable amount of time you'll start to notice it.

This feels like old school battlefront that I always wanted. You can walk up to vehicles and get into them instead of spawning out of nowhere, heroes not spawning every minute taking me out of the experience, and tactical gameplay.
You should go back to the PS2 and play the original battlefront 1 and 2, they're literally just that without the realism of squad lol

It doesn’t. Runs like shit on my 3070 and looks like a 2012 game. Battlefront 1 and Battlefront 2 look incredibly good and run 5x better.

It's so damn immersive how the gunships drop off troops and tanks and then fly away instead of just teleporting there. And because there's no point system that breaks the 4th wall it feels like sticking together in a squad for survival is the better way to go. This mod is a massive improvement over Battlefront II

The Battlefront that we deserved
12:32 was the most stormtrooper thing I’ve ever seen in my life
Now this is how i always imagined star wars, the blaster bolts travelling that fast make much more sense and give this feeling of adrenaline and chaos when even just 6 dudes fire at each other.
As for the game itself, its extremely well made, like, this mod easily rivals BF2 in everything, but the gameplay looks much better

The potential of this game is incredible
The best games of the past like CS:GO and Left 4 Dead 2, were originally mods for a game. I sense insane potiential and marketing if the devs decide to literally just take squads engine and make this a game of its own at this point.
@@juke37024 squad originally started as a mod too. Also it's star wars I'd imagine there's tons of copyright violations if they do that.

I’ve played this mod throughout its development and I still feel like a giddy kid every time the orbital strike happens to this day. Such a cool ass mod 10/10

wow, mods like this usually just look like the main game with assets swapped but this is on another level would definitely put it up there with battlefront
Love this mod, glad to see it getting some much needed attention. Also, IIRC the Valken Anti Matter Rifle comes with a few sub-sonic rounds that'll put those B2's down instantly, 10/10 would recommend.
This is amazing. And I’m afraid Disney/EA will try to shut it down. I haven’t been excited about a Star Wars game in years. I don’t even have a rig that can run it and I’m still excited for it.
Disney don't typically shut down star wars mods for games, and EA don't have exclusive rights anymore so they physically can't

These guys need to some how find a way to make this game a real deal. Contention as it's own game - some how getting Disney to let them do it - would be insane. It's such a quality mod and I would love to see it right out like how Project Reality inevitably became Squad. The only issue of course with the same pipeline is the fact it is an owned IP unlike a historical setting.
And of course its a huge difference between modding a game and creating one from scratch.

@@BrutalCelt BF2 is already crushed. There is no active support left and the community is actively dwindling or full of hackers and hacked lobbies like the old battlefield games. They could literally hire this team, call it BF3: Galactic Contention and no one would bat an eye.

What's funny is Squad was created by people who modded BF2 (Project Reality). They had managed to do something incredible with the base game. Now the Squad devs are in a reverse role in a sense, people managed to make something incredible with their game (both BF2 and Squad being solid games to begin with btw).
I’ve loved this mod pack since I’ve played squad. I recommend giving Arma Star Wars a try.

You'd be suprised how many do, IMO squad is overpriced so wait for sales they happen all the time. But if you get squad to play this you'll sitll have squad which is a great game on it's own. Just remember that to play GC you have to be willing to play Squad, it still needs the same effort and teamwork so if base Squad isn't for you there's a good chance you won't enjoy this for long, it gets stale quick for some people.
Oh yeah I'd totally play base Squad too. As you said, it's just kinda expensive so I've been putting it off, but a mod like this could almost be worth buying it for to me

Dude, that jumptrooper gameplay is insane. I don't know how that manages to be so different than actual Battlefront, but it is. It has to be the elevation. You can't get that high in any of the Battlefront games.
That's so cool. The sfx are phenomenal and regardless of what you say, it looks really good too.

Yesterday i played this mod for the first time. I took the heavy gunner with the rotary gun. First spawn was in the tunnels at Geonosis. I just wiped nearly the whole enemy team leading a push. I never experienced that kind of immersion in a star wars game before. I just had a blast playing it. Got the feeling this mod catched me and will never let me go.
It's main advantage of over battlefront 2 is in my opinion, that it's actually a shooter. Battlefront 2 is so full jedi and sith, it doesn't really feel like a shooter anymore. And at least to me, the combat from the level of regular ish troops is more interesting than the jedi perspective. Probably because that's what we've seen less of in the star wars universe
Except Battlefront 2 is still a shooter and having 4 heroes in the lobby doesn’t change that. They got nerfed in Battlefront 2 and are very easy to take out.

I wonder if there's a squad/ARMA server which is centred around strict rules of engagement, where prisoners can be taken and is encouraged; but not absolutely necessary.
Also, for example, if someone puts their weapon away (you can't drop it) then you're not allowed to shoot etc.
This would be so cool as long as it is done with a light hearted sense of humour, and people aren't just kicked for seeing the Geneva conventions, as suggestions.

Bro, this is amazing! You have to make more videos about this Star Wars Squad mod! Imagine how fun Battlefront 3 would be if it was only FPP and had giant battles from the Clone Wars era. Something like this mod but a triple-A Star Wars game. That would be some much better than a casual shooter like BF2.
