They show the montage if him becoming a pilot and doing dive training. That's where the dream that could never happen starts to become a goal to work towards. When given the opportunity, we can succeed at anything. And much of America's success is on the backs and labor of Mexican and Spanish American progress. Spanish America, and Tejanos specifically, played a major role in the American Revolution.
@@Native_Creation You're right! I've mentioned this to others in the past. When asked by Mexican soldiers why some of them fought at the Alamo (and afterward in the Texas War for Independence), some of them replied that they weren't Mexicans but "Tejanos." I don't think anyone in the U.S. can doubt the work ethic of the Mexicans that either immigrated here, legal or illegal, or are the first generation of a Mexican family that did. The best *French* bakery is my town is run by a Mexican family and they just had to move shops to a bigger place in order to keep up with the demand for their cakes/tarts/pastries/whatever, everything they make tastes far better than the run-of-the-mill shops, I'm there every Sunday for my cheat day. They appreciate every customer and I appreciate them in my town of ~50k people, their presence would be sorely missed (as it is with them moving shops right now lol). I would say, though, that being Mexican is the last characteristic that I would use to describe José or his family members. They are simply good people. José's oldest kid is in medical school right now in our state's capital, one of the best medical schools in the world (University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health). I look forward to seeing his family grow.
As a Mexican-American this makes me proud to see. I started off working in my Dad's janitorial business as a kid to young man so this hits home for me. Never stop believing.
As a young man growing up in the 70’s and when the space race was still very prevalent- I dreamt of being an Astronaut but people that were brown like me were reminded we could not dream that high. To see that someone Mexicano escaped and soared clench’s at my emotional strings. Love Michael Pena fellow Chicano!
I’m excited! I hope this helps the Mexican people rediscover who we are, it’s almost like we lost sight of who we used to be. Our ancestors had beautiful civilizations, math, astronomy, etc. This stuff is in our blood! I’m a Hispanic veteran in school to become a nuclear engineer in Idaho despite being told I couldn’t, I’m proud of my cultural heritage.
Saw him speak at Texas State University, his story is inspiring to so many first generation Mexican-American students, really gives us something to use as motivation during those late night study sessions.
It isn't his heritage that propelled him to success. It is a series of choices he made as an individual and within his family that ultimately led him to success.
no substitute for hard work and improving yourself and your skillset/experience. that's the big takeaway from this story of astronaut hernandez...sheer will, effort, and determination is the common denominator for these people. I'm retired AF and have met several astronauts (had one as an instructor/professor at USAFA) and that is what always struck me when I met these people. Towering intelligence and endless energy/resilience are a given...and that seems to be the key in this story as well.
@@jw70467 part of the reason he was able to endure through those challenges is due to his heritage. Who he is as an individual is a reflection of his family, as you recognize. But who his family is is a reflection of his family's heritage. That heritage is a reflection of his culture, and that culture is a reflection of our shared humanity. Ultimately, yes, it was _him_ who made it happen, but he didn't arrive on earth in a vacuum. He's a patchwork of every influence he had, and the single biggest influence on most of us is our cultural background.
In this movie trailer it seems like hard work and patience really pays off and he becomes an astronaut. I can't help but feel like this is exactly his life in becoming a lead actor after so many years of being a sidekick character. Can't wait to see more ^^
I'm stoked to see this film. (a) Michael Pena is a fantastic actor and (b) story line profiles tenacity in the human spirit which every one of us has, just needs to be exploited.
so we get the childhood backstory, the coming of age, the applications, the rejections, the training montage, and then the success and journey into space as an astronaut. best 2.5 minute movie i've ever seen! glad they released it for free on youtube.
This guy is so good. I've been a fan since Shooter. This past season on Jack Ryan was incredible. So talented and so happy he's now landed a starring role. You know it's going to be good.
Movies like these light up hope, show us how to bounce back, and remind us of our true potential, encouraging us to dream beyond boundaries. Releasing this in theaters would be a great idea! for Michael Pena ✌
the insane thing is how he landed the position, he was learning something new each time to close the gap, at the end he learned Russian as he worked with Russian team, and that was the thing that separate him from the rest, someone who speak russian was a differential to work in the mission along russian from the space station, amazing real story.

Right? We've made space travel so commonplace now with satellites and rovers and all of that, we forget since 1961, a little over 650 people have gone to space, which hey, might seem like a lot, but think about how many people have had and still have that dream of becoming an astronaut, of getting in a rocket, going to space, feeling weightlessness. And of all those with that dream, and of all those who wanted it, only a select few actually became astronauts. And only a select few of those have actually gone to space. And only a select few of those have gone more than once. It's a very hard job, a very demanding job and requires thousands of hours of training as well as a masters degree in select studies.
@@thegamingpigeon3216 now all you need is a bunch of money. Not looking forward to aliens first contact with humanity being Jeff Bezos instead of an astronaut
Absolutely, there are many such stories that haven't been told. My grandfather and his brothers were all farmworkers as well, he was drafted into WW2 and received a Bronze Star, all his brothers also joined the military, his little brother was one of the Chosin Few from the Korean War and received a Purple Heart. Many other uncles were in Vietnam (Black Ops), and several cousins served as well. There are many stories like this out there but we've been treated as second-class citizens in the shadows for so long.
Michael Pena has been impressing me a LOT. He can and does take on different roles with aplomb. He can be funny or dramatic, or both. His acting is spot on. The feelings he portrays do not feel faked. Rosa Salazar, previously known to most of us as Alita, is another rising star we can hope to see more of.

I have loved Michael Pena since Shooter as he plays the cop next to Mark Wahlberg and happily watched him for years and it really seems likes hes still barely hitting his prime. He has been so good for so long. I read the martian and listened to the audio book hundreds of times and his role in the movie is even better then the book character which is so hard to do. Congratulations Mr Pena you are a truly great actor and ive grown up watching your films!
Just watched this trailer and it took me on a trip down memory lane. After watching Interstellar years ago, I was so moved that I dreamt of becoming an astronaut and even wrote essays about the stars. Life, bills, and the reality of everyday struggles took that dream away for a while. But this trailer... it's reignited that old flame in me. I'm considering giving that dream another shot, even if it means re-evaluating the life I've carefully constructed. Anyone else feel this way? ❤🌌🚀
Dude ... we are all astronauts. We are all travelling through space. We are just doing it on a very large vehicle called Earth. You have been an astronaut ever since the day you were conceived.
This is something I'd really like to see perform well. Partly because the subject really matter to me, but also because I've love to see Pena score big in a starring role. Dude has been putting in work.
He's a good dramatic actor but he's even better as a comedic actor which is probably a more difficult skill set. Peña is awesome and he elevates every movie he's in.
Even though he played the main actor on this movie, as a person without performing he is a true heroe! Did anybody notice that even after 12 years of being turned down he was going to be back and said it with conviction?
Never imagine seeing the word “underrated” in a YT comment section. The word has no meaning because apparently everything on YT is “underrated” since the word is used in every since comment section on YT
Looking forward to this movie. Michael Pena is a very good actor and as someone else said, he is an underrated actor and can do versatile roles with ease. Glad he is getting to play the lead!

I've been a fan of Michael Peña since End Of Watch, which is in my top ten list of movies, and in my top five for movies released this century. I'm familiar with the concept of movie magic, but to shoot that masterpiece in just 22 days, I think it would have been a tall order for the cast to develop that kind of chemistry onscreen, so quickly, if they weren't cool and likeable people to begin with. Definitely checking this out. I think this message of persistence, but also, not simply demanding that someone give you a shot because you're special, but instead working hard at becoming the candidate they can't afford to turn away, is important. Especially in 2023.
Thank u.. Michael Sir for this taking up this wonderful movie the trailer itself made me shed a tear you fit in so perfectly that as if this movie was destined for you... Will be waiting for the movie Sir... Thank you Sir for teaching us one more life lesson
I know the feeling the person who this story is based on felt. I am the oldest of 5 and we didn’t have much growing up. Food stamps, electricity getting cut off and moving at nite before getting evicted. I finished the 10th grade and ran away from home. I had wanted to be an astronaut as well since I was a kid but what chance did I have then? Not much. When I turned 17 I joined the Navy. I took advantage of training and schooling with the Navy paying. I did 10 years and got out. I continued learning and worked my way up in Naval Aviation over the years by taking harder and harder assignments. Did I make it to be an astronaut? No but I did eventually become a flight test engineer for the USN/USMC. I love the career I’ve had. I didn’t make it to the stars but I did get to see the curvature of the earth and the inky blackness just above my head. I could almost touch the stars then. That’s good enough for me, I’ve gone farther than I ever dreamt. I’ve done things I never thought possible. What a great career I’ve had. Retirement is in the cards the next year or two. Icing on the cake? I’ve got a wonderful family and grown children I’m so proud of. Life’s been good so far.

I see Michael Pena, I click. He's an amazing, gifted actor.
...yeah that's actually true
Love it, this is the kind of show that should never get old no matter how many generations pass by.
literally says movie at the end :P
@@Tqoratsos666And thank god it’s a dam movie. I hate when shows drag on a simple story for years on end 🤦♂️
Love seeing Michael Peña getting some amazing roles!! The man kills it in everything he does!
He's a national treasure then as well. 👍
Do you mean you saw Michael Pena...or Hernandez speak??
Love Michael Pena he's always great in any film he's in, in some he's brilliant. I never fail to enjoy his performances.
In this movie trailer it seems like hard work and patience really pays off and he becomes an astronaut. I can't help but feel like this is exactly his life in becoming a lead actor after so many years of being a sidekick character. Can't wait to see more ^^
Got tears in my eyes just from the trailer....can't wait to see the movie!! Love Michael Pena
I'm stoked to see this film. (a) Michael Pena is a fantastic actor and (b) story line profiles tenacity in the human spirit which every one of us has, just needs to be exploited.
So glad Michael Peña is getting a starring role. He deserves it.😊
What about when he was in “End of Watch” ?
He played Cesar Chavez, why does everyone forget that? Too busy watching MCU movies where he's an idiot.
so we get the childhood backstory, the coming of age, the applications, the rejections, the training montage, and then the success and journey into space as an astronaut. best 2.5 minute movie i've ever seen! glad they released it for free on youtube.
This guy is so good. I've been a fan since Shooter. This past season on Jack Ryan was incredible. So talented and so happy he's now landed a starring role. You know it's going to be good.
Had no interest in the Jack Ryan series. Michael's in it?!?! I'm watching!
“Light up hope”! What a brilliant description! Agreed!
@@Joe-sg9llYour words are nothing, your thoughts are your words, you are your thoughts…. This story is about courage, determination, hard work, and optimism. You chose to respond with cynicism and insult. Disgusting.

This actually looks really good- a lot of people forget how hard it is to achieve something like this. Looking forward to seeing his journey.
Not anymore I guess since any rich asshole can go to space now. Really looking forward to aliens first contact with humans being some fat cat CEO instead of our best and brightest
Nice to see a movie that shows that hard work and tenacity pays off.
😂
Love everything about this, but especially Michael Pena. Dude brings it every time.
I have never seen Michael Peña turn in a bad performance. Glad to see him getting more shine as time goes on.
We need more stories like this. Our people's voices and sacrifices are worth being told.
We don’t actually
@@Native_Creation i have always hoped that they would make a movie about the real Rambo....Roy Benavides from El Campo Texas....
"While in orbit, Hernández became the first person to use the Spanish language in space while tweeting." wow what a story
In the Mexican American culture, education is very important. In a perfect world, that's why he should've been chosen, not because of his ethnicity.
1:22 I actually had the pleasure to meet Jose Hernandez almost twenty years ago when he came to my youth organization to share his inspirational story. I didn’t remember much at the time but I definitely remembered him telling us how many times he applied! Thanks for inspiring us to never quit in our aspiration Mr. Hernandez! Michael Peña as an actor always crushing it!
Michael Pena is one of my favorite actors of all time, and I think he's largely underrated. He can play serious roles, comedic roles, horror roles, and he fits perfect.
Definitely he is multi-talented!
Dang you Michael, with your heart and soul and continued brilliant acting, you made me tear up...watching a trailer, I'm going to be a weeping mess during this movie in September 😊
I love Michael Pena. He never disappoints.
Finally, Michael Pena in his own leading role. Love it. And the movie is very fitting for him. He's so versatile and great as an actor, can't wait to see thisbmovie when it comes out. You go Michael, you go 🎉👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
I feel so great and happy to see Michael Pena in a leading role. Deserved it. So amazing.
When I think of the phrase "this man/actor has heart", Mr. Pena is the first one that pops into my mind. Believable, and compelling every performance. I will watch!
THANK GOD. I'm so glad Pena is getting his big shot. This will put him on the map in a way that none of the supporting roles has. He's a fantastic actor and this looks like a beautiful script. Can't wait!
Do it, please.
You can do it, don't worry about the how. Just start right now, please
Dude ... we are all astronauts. We are all travelling through space. We are just doing it on a very large vehicle called Earth. You have been an astronaut ever since the day you were conceived.
That is a good way to put it. So I should aim for that promotion then. @@raywalsh9152

FINALLY! 1000000% watching this because of Michael. He's such an amazing actor. Every part he nails. I can't wait to watch this movie.
I'm so happy for him,he is a truly phenomenal actor! He deserves this lead role!
This trailer has me all emotional already. I know this is going to be good. ❤
How not to love Michael Peña. He's adorable and believable.
Pure heart acting.
He's one of the best.
...and a scientologist
This is something I'd really like to see perform well. Partly because the subject really matter to me, but also because I've love to see Pena score big in a starring role. Dude has been putting in work.
This man is a legend. Glad to see him finally getting the recognition and part he deserves! Cant wait to watch this
Pena is a fantastic actor. Was superb in Jack Ryan. Well, hes superb in everything he's in.
He's a good dramatic actor but he's even better as a comedic actor which is probably a more difficult skill set. Peña is awesome and he elevates every movie he's in.
This looks awesome! I love Michael Peña!
There’s something about Michael Pena that just makes you instantly like him. Can’t explain it. Happy for all the roles he’s getting these days.
Even though he played the main actor on this movie, as a person without performing he is a true heroe! Did anybody notice that even after 12 years of being turned down he was going to be back and said it with conviction?
That looks great!! Proud to be Latino 😢
Michael Peña is really an underrated actor, but he always delivers a great performance!
“underrated” by WHO exactly? cuz it sho nuff ain’t casting directors (or audiences for that matter since he’s ALWAYS working). 🫣
Never imagine seeing the word “underrated” in a YT comment section. The word has no meaning because apparently everything on YT is “underrated” since the word is used in every since comment section on YT
I hope he gets the award recognition he deserves… he has crushed it in every role he has performed… I hope the academy pays him his dues
Looking forward to this movie. Michael Pena is a very good actor and as someone else said, he is an underrated actor and can do versatile roles with ease. Glad he is getting to play the lead!
Love Michael Peña ! Excellent actor
This should be on the big screen (or even IMAX)!
Glad to see Michael Pena finally get a lead role. Long overdue for such a talented actor.
I. Can't.Wait. Michael Pena has been killing it in films for SOOOO long. He has earned it to be launched into the orbit of Hollywood greatness. A true star.
It’s not fat Mark Ruffolo in the thumbnail. Checked for you guys
Michael Pena in the new Jack Ryan - steals every scene he is in!
Watched this on the plane. An inspiring story about tenacity, goals, the importance of having a great support system, and not giving up on your dreams. Didn't have earbuds with me, subtitles only so I'll have to rewatch.

we don't get enough movies about chasing amazing dreams anymore. michael peña is great in these roles. it was so crazy seeing him as a stone cold killer in jack ryan.
I loved him in Jack Ryan as well.
He was great, but he's too old to be Ding Chavez.
Im so tired of all the remakes, sequels, superhero movies, and unoriginal stories that are just flooding the theatrical space. We need more of this.
Love Michael Pena. Going to 100% watch this.
I love Peña and this is one of those movies where I get teary, the whole story was so good.
I know, 'cause I just watched the full two minutes and twenty nine seconds of it.
Always happy to see Micheal Pena get a leading role in a movie, never doubted his talent
What an inspiring true story 👍
I always feel a connection to Michael Peña like he's not just acting.. so definitely going to watch this ❤❤❤❤
Ever since seeing him in 'End of Watch' I've kept an eye out for Michael Peña and have not been disappointed. He is so consistently real and good >> he's real good >> I'll be watching this one❤🔥
Nice to see Michael Peña leading! Vai lá CAMPEÃO!
He's a great actor who raises the bar with every performance. Convincing SFX
It's been a long time since I had goosebumps watching a trailer. I just had while watching this. ❤ September 15, I'm waiting for you !

What a powerful story!!! THANK YOU! I Can't wait to see it over and over again!!! ❤
Mad love and respect for Michael, great actor.
This looks so good, especially as it's based on a true story. Great actor Michael Pena, deserves to be a main lead.👍
Michael Peña is such an incredible actor! He can go to such a goofy character, to a hilarious one, to an absolute serious character!
A phenomenal story. Great to see they are making a movie out of it.
One of my favorite actors. Always so subtle and realistic.
I've been waiting for a movie like this to come out, let's goooo! So hyped 🙌
One of the most charismatic actors I’ve ever seen, can literally do it all so convincingly - drama to comedy and all points between. Absolute dude. 👍🏾
Michael Peña is a fantastic actor. So much range. From slapstick comedy to killer to serious he has got it all. Does not have the recognition yet, but sure deserves a bit more exposure.
Imagine, this the same guy that plays the storytelling Luis in the MCU.
