    2 questions:
    1. What is the difference in sensitivity between the different solutions? I'm guessing that the more invasive it is, the more sensitive it is. Is that actually the case?
    2. If the guess is true, then wouldn't it mean that eventually we will need an invasive solution because detection of brain signals can only go so far when you are outside the brain matter?

    • @jmoney4695
      @jmoney4695 7 місяців тому +9

      The problem is not sensitivity, but resolution. Chips that are implanted above the dura (a protective layer on the brain) have difficulty with precise neuron spike detection, because all the layers of tissue in between the electrodes and the neurons disrupt the signals and make it blurrier.
      You are right that deeply invasive devices have the most potential. There is only so much a BCI can do with blurry, imprecise spike detection. There is a much higher capability ceiling with the higher bandwidth, invasive devices. In the future, if we wish to reach the limits of what BCIs can do, approaches like Neuralink have the most potential.
      Disclaimer: not an expert in any means, just someone who is interested in the tech

    • @thesadboxman
      @thesadboxman 7 місяців тому +1

      @@jmoney4695 You had me stumped at the difference between sensitivity and resolution. It wasn't top of mind that there was a difference! Thank you for pointing that out!
      "Resolution is the smallest portion of a signal that can be observed. Sensitivity is the smallest change in a signal that can be detected." is a definition I found on the interwebs. By that definition, wouldn't a more invasive probe provide improvement to both?

    • @DdDd-pl3nt
      @DdDd-pl3nt 7 місяців тому +1

      Also not many people mention that the lower the 'signal' quality the more compute is needed to correctly decode the data. Also another really important thing is the electrode placement density.

    • @thesadboxman
      @thesadboxman 7 місяців тому

      @@DdDd-pl3nt If the raw signal is processed directly by the NN software end to end (ie. not denoised/etc first), wouldn't compute be largely the same? Can you expand on the electrode placement density?

    • @DdDd-pl3nt
      @DdDd-pl3nt 7 місяців тому +1

      @@thesadboxman so the more electrodes you can put the more different regions of the brian you can effectively gather data from. The issue is the signal "clustering" Or whatever we call it where electrodes placed close to each other gather almost identical data. For the signal, as far as i know the Preprocessing of the brian data should always include denoising, normalizing etc (what you mentioned). What i mean is from low quality signal it's harder to extract the features you want, or harder to train a model you want to use to interpret the signals in the future. I'm also not a professional though, still learning.

      Well like any invasive surgery, the immune system can reject the implant, however brain is a special part of our body because of the hemato-encephalic barriere. But other than that it is just a reading device so it does not seems to have direct interaction with the brain, it looks like using an oscilloscope or stuff like that

    Neural links first focused is to cure people with paralysis and spinal cord injuries and other ailments you’re not speaking negatively on him but you’re talking this product up like it’s a much better solution when I feel you don’t know anything about neural link or what their actual objective what their goals are I’m a quadriplegic and the neural link is a more direct connection. Your device Hass to map somebody brain that can already use those functions not everybody’s brain is the same.

    What's with the bias? Basically bashing Neuralink for being 10 years ahead of it's competitors.
    Neuralink - tested and refined without having to experiment on humans and then implanted the final functional device for permanent usage in a human.
    Precision - 10 years away from first implant of a final product in a human and currently prototyping and experimenting their device with human subjects... also not anywhere near as capable as neuralink
    Synchron - nowhere near as capable as neuralink, using a crude approach that will never converge to anything remotely near to what Nueralink has already achieved (inter cranial 1:1 neuron read/write ability all in a single package not requiring any implant in the chest etc.)
