This is exactly what I was looking for, I disassembled one fork leg, cleaned it up,put in fresh oil and reassembled. On the second leg,I found that fiber washer laying on the floor, and didnt know where it came from. Im almost certain, the first one i did doesn't have one in it. So here I go again. Thanks for showing me the way.

A suggestion. Assemble the spring, damper tube, and damper rod together first then install this into the fork lower. Finally install the tube with bushes, then the paper washer and seal. Finally screw in the seal retainer. Otherwise it will be a challenge to install the spring on the damper rod with the fork tube in the way.

I think the lawn mower petrol would been ok for that ,I have to do my 73 norton 750 forks soon , I bought some JS damper caps and some long bushes , new stanchions and have some progressive springs to try . Cheers

Yeah, it might have been, but the fork won’t fit into any gas tank I have, the vase was a good solution and I even had permission to use it!

You mentioned installing steering head races in frame on a previous video. did you consider the sealed bearing and spacer on later models. I like the old type only because you can grease the zerk fitting. and you can control the preload.

I did a tapered roller bearing. I find them to be a good upgrade.
