Question, does an air choke cause unconsciousness like a blood choke or what happens if they tough it out?

I would say yes but they will tap before. I wouldn't do this to white belts, you might look like a douchebag. Some academies don't allow trachea chokes, it's not well seen anymore, well even more now let's say 😄
