Nikwax products have been around for donkey's years and are well-known in outdoor activities circles. Grainger's products are an alternative. They both have quite a range of specialised cleaning products, usually stocked by the likes of Cotswold Outdoors and Go Outdoors and other independents. Surprised Halfords stock it.

I've got grey camo textile trousers, they show dirt very quickly, I take the armour out of them and wash them in the washing machine, normal soap powder, they have lost the waterproofing especially in the groin area, but I feel better when I visit a friend and sitting on their sofa knowing my motorbike trousers are clean.
My mate who used to commute to work on a motorbike, got someone at work to powerhose his textile bike gear while wearing them. He was happy with that to keep them clean.

And so, a new business is born? Saffy's Kit Wash? To be honest, a trip down the car wash might have been easier! A quick splosh about, turn it inside out and walk through the car wash again? I always found that full leathers, after a tri[p to Le Mans, would get horrible. Then a hand wash with shampoo, followed by a good waxing session, when dry, usually saved the day.

Shampoo - anything that left your leathers dandruff free was fine. As for a wax, well it had to be turtle wax to get a bullet proof finish! Seriously, any shampoo was fine if it smelt OK, and a good leather polish was good.

I have to wash my suit about 4 times a year once you have removed all the body armour it goes into the washing machine ok. Though it does feel strange putting the suit into a washing machine so far it has come out ok after 4years of use . The main hassle is getting it dry which due to gortex can take some time and you sometimes have to turn the suit inside out. Just be grateful you aren’t having to clean and re-wax an old waxed cotton suit like I had when I started riding.

    • @SaffySprocket

To re wax the jacket you got a tin of the wax and heated it up and painted it on ,it got everywhere and it smelled so bad I had to do it outside. I was so glad when both over suits and reliable textile jackets came out in the mid eighties.

I know you said it wouldn't fit in your washing machine, but how small is it? Our washing machine is tiny and it'll do one item at a time. Now I've seen you use a carpet cleaner, that may be the way to go for the linings and waterproof nylon over jacket and trousers to "protect" the seams...

I’m just wondering why you didn’t take out protectors and it would have to fit to washing machine. My jacket is size and has all protectors which can be easily removed - and this is cheap Adventure jacket.
Oh! You did! later on in the video.
